This is what i said when watching the games... an elderly person is simply unable to maintain concentration both mentally and physicly.. Kasparov, Karpov, Polgar etc... are not as good as they were. Chess is a mental sport that requires both the mental and yes, physical (!) endurance.. that older players lack... what we had seen was a young and strong IM who im 100 per cent sure was training himself for this contest and a great GM whose prime is far beyond and who plays just for fun....
@@Snizzle_Fizzle yep, Sweden women team still depends of her skill. in the last Olimpiad i think she won 8/10 something like that...she secure some wins and draws to Sweden.
She can always improve and get closer to her lifetime peak. But at 61 I doubt she cares to invest that much energy into chess. That's one major reason why older people don't perform as well in very demanding mental tasks such as chess. Its not worth their time spending endless days studying and practicing chess. Much respect to Mrs Pia for still playing at a master level and representing her country in her advanced age.
Levy and Pia have shown class, poise and style in a way that the Kramniks and Niemanns of the world are incapable of even approaching. The chess speaks for itself, and so does the sportsmanship. We need more of this. We need none of the lies and childishness coming from those other two.
Agreed 100%. I understand the trashtalking culture of chess, but I hate that modern media breeds and multitplies it. What I want to see is sportsmanship and respect over the board, and this experience was exactly what I wanted.
Hans has shown a bit of maturity recently, so perhaps he'll eventually grow out of his villain phase. To be honest though, I like the contrast he brings. Kramnik on the other hand, he must be writing a textbook about destroying one's legacy.
Great job from Levy to be able to overcome his form and win against one of the most legendary chess & a former women's #1 chess player. And amazing job from Pia to hold her ground against someone who is so young and preparing constantly to improve and get that GM title. What a wonderful display from her. This was an absolutely win-win tournament.

It was a joke. Hikaru has a warped sense of humour a lot of the time. He wasn't trying to be disrespectful. At least he had the wherewithal to change the title.
Congratulations to Levy for a great performance, and also congratulations to Pia for all her achievements but also for being so humble and seemingly just a really nice person.
If only she didn't miss the draw in the 4th classical game, a lead going into the rapids and blitzes would have been huge. But you also gotta give it to Batman, he played well and I hope he makes GM some day.
19:04--Rxa5 is a massive blunder, as it allows Levy to sac THE ROOK with rxd4. After h3 and the queen trade, black gets both rooks to the 2nd rank. If exd4 instead of h3, black has e3/e2 and white has to sac the queen to stop mate.
@@rickrick5041that’s not her classical rating. That is her rating in shorter time controls she focuses less on. Her classical is still 2420 which is below GM now but still above Levy’s current classical rating.
@@rickrick5041 Ok sorry for misunderstanding you. However, we gotta remember that Pia typically plays more classical than other time formats. She is good at blitz but classical was definitely the time format that Pia had the best chance to take the lead in.
As for me that Levy has played only 4 classical games, its such lost opportunity to practice with strong GM on this long time control (maybe he was concerned about losing elo points, but I think it would be balanced match) Anyway it was interesting to watch games on streams and recaps after.
In the last game, early on white plays knight d2. Black then trades knight for bishop. Why didn’t they just capture the knight with their knight. Doesn’t that win a pawn?

@maximusinvictus8802 she's sooo strong though still. Just don't understand why they'd make short time controls such a large part of it.

Nice of Pia to do this. Her generous modesty goes unnoticed, exactly how she prefers. What a lady.

If Pia had the level she had 30 years ago she wouldn't be playing Levy
