Hyper Wing she is directly touching the Old One’s soul. I believe that the Old One’s power is stronger than the binding of the nexus, or its that she already escaped the nexus. The binding is physically on her leg so I see it as something similar to a suped up shock collar, as in she is totally bound within the physical walls of the nexus so she can’t use the arch stones or even die to leave. So when the sword pierces the magical barrier she is able to escape, that’s why she’s so eager to jump, and once she’s out she’s out and can go wherever or die because she’s no longer in the nexus. Could also be that since she’s the most powerful demon in the nexus she absorbs her own soul again and comes back to life, but when you finally kill her it’s that you have become even stronger than her so you absorb it. After all when you do you absorb the Old One, it takes a pretty powerful being to do that.

This game is where the souls journey began for me. Its crazy because the first time I played it, I couldn't help but to hate it. But after pushing through, I discovered the most beautiful scenery and stories of any game I've played. Demons souls a true masterpiece.
Thanks for the video. I do think your theory opens up some possibilities I didn't see before. A few thoughts: 1. Some people did theorize that King Allant XII unleashed the 2nd scourge not because he "grew melancholy", but because he accidentally discovered the secret in the Boletarian mausoleum. After finding out that Doran, the mythical hero from eons ago, is not only alive, but also wields a matchless power (boasting the highest HP in the game, etc.), Allant decided to seek the soul arts by breaking the 6th archstone with Soulbrand. This is how he unleashed the 2nd scourge. 2. some theorize that the Queen of Latria was kept alive as the giant "heart" in Latria tower because the Old Monk missed her secretly even after murdering her. Or at least this "heart" or "magical womb" is the device by which the Old Monk tried to revive her. 3. You argued that even if the player chooses to turn back after defeating real Allant, the world is still doomed and will only continued to fuel the evils represented by Valley of Defilement. I would say that is not necessarily the case, and the "good ending" is still far better than the "bad ending". The player's agency to choose not to give in to the temptation of ultimate power would at least stop the scourge and save millions of lives. This would also fit your theory that the Old One is merely an amplifier of human's moral tendencies. In other words, either our choice matters, or that it doesn't matter at all. And your overall interpretation and presupposition (including the notion of evil and morality) would be consistent only if the player's choice matters. 4. Miyazaki majored in Sociology before entering the game industry, and I would say he definitely has his inclinations as expressed in the game. He set up different factions and their metanarratives and then hinting subtle inconsistences and contradictions in every of them. In this regard, I would say Demon's Souls is a game about worldviews at war. Even the intro cinematic and the Monumental have conflicting creation accounts.
Demons souls always had the best lore to me. There was something so immersive about this story. It gave you just enough information to understand what it was you were doing but left you wanting to know more. I just wish I could relive demons souls and dark souls 1 like I did the first time. This is hands down my favorite souls game.
It's worth noting how Astraea didn't consume her demon soul and holds it in her hands. The golden garb of the Old Monk in Latria is obviously a reference to the King in Yellow.
This is probably the best UA-cam video I’ve ever watched. I rewatch it all the time. The Demons Souls lore and world is like no other in the series to me. It is so interesting, bleak, dark, and I can’t believe Miyazaki achieved all of that in his first game. Sure Dark Souls may have been the more popular game, but this one defies any rules of what a video game should be. Paired with that, the story…the story feels so much better than Dark Souls ❤❤
Probably but I think it’s important to remember that not everything is a metaphor. People can be creative without everything having to “mean” something.
Honestly that’s how it was for me. You walk into an arena expecting a boss fight on the same level of disgust as the rest of the Valley of Defilement, only to find what seems to be a couple of romantic partners. Astrea doesn’t care about your mission, she doesn’t care that your world has become a disaster, because she doesn’t care about the Old One. All Astrea ever wanted was to help the people suffering in the Valley, and you wade through a plague to murder her... It really makes you wonder, who’s the real Demon?
Agree. Literally made me want to return to the Nexus. Never before or after have I experienced not wanting to go on playing simply because of what is happening in game. After the cutscene plays and the music starts... I tried going back through the fog. Then Garl's dialogue. Man, this game changed my whole taste in gaming and really consolidated that videogames are another form of art.
Yeah it's fucking amazing... I'm just kinda sussed out about that weird 1/3 perspective. As in your character is in the first third of the screen instead of the middle... I REALLY hope this isn't in the end product.
I like this analysis, especially the Take on Latria and the Valley of Defilement I always liked how vague and elusive the concept of a "god" as well the concept of "good and evil" was in this game
I don't think Demon's Souls is merely the second time the Old One has been awoken. Once you get down there you see hundreds of metal stakes dotting the land and pierced into the Old One itself. As if this exact same scenario has been repeated hundreds of times and humanity has just been lucky to come back from the brink each time so far.
The devices lodged in the Old One were probably just tools that helped seal it the first time. They're all distinctly different from the sword that undoes the seal.
I have a low-key theory that Patches is actually a Monumental that just grew up when he thought to himself "you guys had one job and you fucked it up" and just decided to fuck over humans for the rest of his life.
Does the Old One represent suicide? Characters see the corrupted world as despair, and having their souls devoured as release. So the ending choice is to resist mass suicide, or succumb to it. How does this compare to Dark Souls? The First Flame seems to be more about a bygone order or hierarchy. How giving yourself to the flame may maintain the dreary status quo at the cost of your life. Or how letting the flames die will plunge the world into a period of darkness and hardship, but leaves space for a new world to form. Sounds sort of like revolution? Demon's Souls teaches us that we should endure despite the tragedies of the world, and not succumb to suicide. Dark Souls teaches us that we should not sacrifice ourselves to those in power, and be willing to endure hardship for a better world. From the personal, to the political. (This is me thinking about it out loud. Obviously this isn't accepted canon or anything)
I would say that the old one fits suicide less and is more of a metaphor for decay and the negative impulses that dehumanize mankind. Wile the overall theme of Demon's Souls is indeed to persevere in the face of adversity and to gain control over your own demons, so that you may then be able to confront the root of what demonizes us. While the old one does exists and is a physical being it's more a metaphor. You give into the worst that you are and become demonic. You gain power and status bringing others down, by doing evil acts, power without morality is evil. That's why you are given the choice at the end ultimately. To banish and lull the Old One to sleep. Or rouse him to full strength and become his ArchDemon. That is my take. You can lull that which destroys us and to sleep since you are unable to destroy it, you can only learn to control your impulses or continue to be influenced by lack of morality and clarity. Strong but you waste away what you touch. And let's not forget about the soul. A human needs a soul to be elevated above the common animal. The power comes from within. From the connection to the divine in ourselves and that which helps us pierce the fog that blankets man and keeps him as a hollow husk unable to understand. But the power of the soul is an enticing thing. People become corrupt and desire more power than what their own soul gives. They become decadent and lazy due to the fact that they can simply use the soul arts to solve most if not all of their problems. That is what I see on a basic level of Demon's Souls.
@@MrJavier1223 The Old One, Mergo and Kos' Orphan all embody the coldest Truth of all: "Better (for some) to have never been born." Godlike reality-warping beings of unfathomable power, yet all *scream* for release, like newborns, from the agony of eternal 'life'. All are cursed with unquenchable thirst. The Orphan mourns not only his mother, but the stolen life it never had. The player characters become most heroic upon realizing only they have the will, or sanity, to know Death is sometimes the only answer.
@@Dunge0n Nihilism is a pretty easy concept to understand lol! It make sense in a hopeless or world with origins in darkness. It makes sense Miyazaki is inspired by works that also relate to this concept, Japan being a culture itself nihilistic primarily, especially Lovecraft's work. Berserk is dark fantasy, but not devoid of a positive resolution. Maybe lol
I just found your channel through your Kings Field video. I don't know if you have your notifications on, or if you'll see this, but I've got a couple of things to say. Love your content, love your deliberate speech. Great stuff. Honestly though, you don't sound like a UA-camr that I would really want to go out of my way to listen to so much as I'd love to share a few beers in person with, to speculate and theorize, come up with crazy ideas and have a good laugh with. TL:DR - subscribed. Keep doing you, man.
Why remake? Why not just play the original and stop giving the elite the idea we want half assed remakes like resident evil 2 3 and so on. People like you ruin all entertainment.
@@nickcapella2440 I think this game could benefit more from a remake than others, because of the area that was apparently left unfinished in the original release. I would love to replay demons souls with the "land of giants" included...
@@nickcapella2440 And people like you ruin discourse. Bluepoint is a good dev team and the Shadow of The Colossus remake shows you don't know what you're talking about - not all remakes are made equal.
So Reapers we’re once the highly revered Shaman’s of the Shadowmen. The Shadowlurkers were once the men and woman who inhabited the island, and the Skeletons, along with the Old Hero, were all distinguished warriors in life.
Demon’s souls is one of the greatest games ever made!!! I’m lucky that this was the first souls game I played. Can’t wait for the remake for the ps5. Been playing it on the ps3 recently to hype myself up for it even more!!!
Demon's Souls doesn't come close to being my favorite, but there's something special about that game that's not evident in any of the titles that came after it. The peculiar bleak atmosphere, the charming jank and the way it harmonizes its gameplay with its narrative themes and the overall story, something all the subsequent games more or less expanded on in various different ways and with varrying degrees of success, but there's just something about it I can't quite pin down and say what it is. But it makes it stand out in ways no other game in the From Soft catalog does. A true gem.
Definitely the most charming of all Souls games. And ironically, one of the darkest (more so than Dark Souls). Even the more primitive soundtrack is amazing simply because of how unique and fitting every track is. Man every time I watch a Demon's Souls video it makes me want to replay it but you'll never get your first 1-3 playthrough(s) back unless you get amnesia...
Fantastic video bro. I have been a fan of all the big 'Soulsborne' lore channels for many years. Welcome to that club and I hope to hear more from you in future. These two videos on Demons Souls are fantastic and I look forward to hearing more from you in future. 👌
Thank you for the video it was entertaining and I learned a lot, DeS deserves this kind of content as much as DaS. One thing I could argue over is the tone of voice used, I think it could be calmer.
I've been enjoying your videos, even the old ones, this channel deserves much more attention. I love your videos Aesir. Thanks for all the entertainment.
This lore and story telling are so bad ass!! I never considered that the Old One manifests our psychic wishes and beliefs into reality. I also consider the 'bad ending' in a entirely new light. Well done!!
It's really cool to see the story laid out so clearly. What I really took away from your video is that there is no "good" ending. From what I knew so far, letting the old one destroy the world was a clear "bad" ending. But, as you pointed out with the valley of defilement, and the general suffering of the world, the "goodness" of each ending is more nuanced. Thanks for the quality video, it's clear that put a lot of effort into it ^^
“Ah So you slipped through the fisher too did you? Or did you come to save this land and be remembered as a hero? Hehe hunting for demons? Try one of the arch stones. Now go! That is why you came is it not!? To this accursed bolitaria”. I think that’s how it goes. Man this game was pure poetry.
What if there is no virtually no difference between a demon and a human. The only difference is that a demon is an amalgam of souls together and the body comes to reflect the state of that amalgamation. Soulsborne games often play around with that concept that monsters in game are the twisted forms of mortals. The old one absorbs souls and creates demons possibly by overloading that body with souls it has absorbed.
22:06 I bet the giant heart was another Berserk inspiration, totally reminds me of Ganishka's artificial behelit that he used to create the Daka monsters. It might not look exactly like it from the manga but this giant womb-like thing being chained up and having monsters spill out of it (when you cut the chains in game) definitely gives the same vibes from berk
I have no interest towards Demon's and/or Dark Souls but I am so blown away by your Silent Hill story explainations that watched it in one go. I really like UA-cam channels that are very chill with their videos unlike the millions of hyperactive mainstream channels with "HELLO GUYS I AM DOUCHEBAG NUMBER 200.000 AND WELCOME TO MY NEW VID" Keep it going m8.
As a die hard SH1-4 fan, Demon's Souls and Bloodborne are the only games I've played that have come anywhere close to SH for me. Must be all those umbilical cords.
Dude, play them. Souls and Silent Hill are on my top 3 favourite game series. What do they have in common? Amazing atmosphere, majestic soundtracks, immersive as hell and also quite dark (ironically "Dark Souls" isn't nearly as dark as Demon's or Bloodborne)
Holy shii am 9 mins in and already mind blown , demons souls is the only soulsborne game am not familiar with what's going on in the lore even though I've played it a ton but never could grasp the lore by myself, finally someone going in depth with it 💙
This is first video I watch. Maybe a bit, not as obnoxious as Vaati tho. Regardless, I care more for the content itself rather than the presentation. And it was a good vid.
Good bro it's kool-aid without a measuring cup lol. Use a bit more sugar or a bit less doesn't matter to us we just want a glass of kool-aid. Except the ds2 flavor 😅
Great video, the dramatic reading works really well. The Mercury in the Tower of Latria may not have been given to them in an attempt to drive them mad. As you said silver is know to have some healing properties, mercury used to be known as quicksilver and was actually used in some medicines leading to madness and death. So it could be the people who ran the Tower of Latria may have had good intentions to heal those kept there but inadvertently caused them so worsen and go mad.
The Valley of Defilement is genius and misunderstood. The point is that there's an ancient holy church built under the valley that had been forgotten. It's kindness and Holiness radiates out calling all the forgotten, the aborted, the suffering, the lost. It looks like pure suffering and horror, but the heart of it is actually positive. It's subversive. And it's presentation is seemingly pure horror. Which adds a layer to the whole scenario. At first it appears hopeless but actually isn't so as you cleansing it was part of the process of helping the poor. You are doing God's will in the valley. And Astrea was doing evil by becoming demonic and needed to be put out like all other demons in the area that increased suffering.
Thank you for breaking down the story. I learnt a lot. QUESTION #1: if maiden cannot die, how is it possible in the end to choose to kill her? QUESTION #2: Why both endings will end in despair, the maiden would lul the old one to sleep and therefore we will have peace. QUESTION #3: So if we choose to kill the maiden and take the souls, do we also become a blob like king allant? As you see my questions are on the vagueness of the endings. If you can make a video just talking about the endings and their meanings , it'd be great. (just throwing an idea)
Forgive me if I missed it somewhere in the video but there seemed to be no mention of Yuriah the Witch. Was it just not important to the story? I only ask cause I didn't meet her in a play through yet and was curious what her story was
I meentioned her in passing. She can be saved from imprisonment from the fat ministerand will then sell dark magic. She was always hated for her witchcraft but it very kind and gentle regardless.
I think it's hilarious but at the same time acurate that the whole reason humanity doomed itself was because it's leader got bored and awakened a demon from it's slumber because it got curious as to see what would happen
Amazing video! Honestly nothing matches Demon's Souls atmosphere....it's just too weird, sad, dark and beautiful. Music is fantastic and seeing all those things that made Souls Series is lovely. I played Demon's Souls last from the Souls gauntlet...and if I may say eventhough I don't play it that much, it's probably my favourite. With the rough edges it's just makes the perfect diamond. The Valley of Defilement and Latria are just definition of Souls lore.
Agree. It's the most fantastical out of all in my opinion, the most "written fiction/story" of them all. It just has that vibe. And I love that. The whole game feels like an adventure in old stories. The atmosphere is so damn immersive too, the visuals and sounds. It's definitely rough around the edges gameplay wise but it is charming as hell
I wish bluepoint would of been brave and actually animated Ostrava committing suicide by stabbing himself in the chest. I know suicide is a very touchy subject and should never be glorified but I think by actually showing him doing the deed it would of made it all the more tragic and heartbreaking and truly show the player the unimaginable pain he felt once he was finally confronted with the truth of what his father had become..
So, ten things for the uninitiated... 1) The title "Demon's Souls" is not improper grammar, it refers to the fact that all of the souls under the deep grey fog ultimately belong to the Old One. (Sage Freke's dialogue, directly) 2) The Old One is also the God of Demon's Souls. (Talisman of Beasts, dialogue cues from Saint Urbain, Sage Freke, Yuria) 3) The "chieftain of the lost" from the last archstone is actually Maiden Astraea herself (It's just a bas relief of her with a plague doctor mask on). Unlike the other archdemons, she retains her sense of self due to her devotion to the people of the swamp, despite likely learning that God _is_ the Old One. 4) Demons are either humans who have gathered too many souls, or myths given life by the grey fog, the Old One's influence. (Boss soul descriptions, esp. World 1 and World 4) 5) You are a demon. (Pre-Old One cutscene, Maiden in Black's dialogue) 6) Miracles are _also_ Soul Arts. All of the Soul Arts draw upon the power of the Old One. (Various dialogue, Monumental cutscene) 7) People generally believed Vallarfax escaped the grey fog to warn the world of the fall of Boletaria, when in truth, Executioner Miralda assassinated him (World 1-1 side area corpse, Biorr and Ostrava's dialogue). 8) When you complete the game, regardless of your choice, your character awakes in a new iteration of the same exact world, with all of their power and gear intact, but all progress reset. Putting the Old One to sleep frees one world, but *you* are forever bound to the Nexus, no matter what you do. (NG end cutscene, NG+ cutscene) 9) In the world of Demon's Souls, the term "dark souls" is used to refer to phantoms who have lost their way and gone mad- in other words, hollows. (Sage Freke's dialogue) Strange how these things come full circle. 10) Motifs in the "kill Maiden in Black" ending's music are repurposed in Bloodborne for Gehrman's theme. In an early development alpha release of Bloodborne, Father Gascoigne says "Umbasa," the principal prayer of the church in Demon's Souls, after killing you. In the final release of the game, both his model and his player clothing set, which can be purchased from the messenger fountain behind the workshop, have a pendant necklace similar in shape and depiction to the Talisman of God from Demon's Souls. An extremely similar set to the Fluted Armor is found as an environmental piece in many chalice dungeons on various corpses, further alluding to the potential that Bloodborne was intended to be an indirect sequel to Demon's Souls, or at least its spiritual successor in-universe.
Thanks I can't always let the NPCs outside of the Nexus speak for very long, but I still remember some of the quotes like: "No interest eh? I can tell you're not going to last long here.."
I’m surprised you didn’t bring up yuria when talking about sage freike’s suggestion to join the old one. She offers an interesting counterbalance to both saint urban and frieke. She is also detested by urban but she doesn’t disagree with his assessment of magic. Like sage frieke she sought the power and understanding of demons souls but unlike frieke she became weary of the idea that they could ever do good in the world. Frieke dismissed her as a lesser magician due to her “emotional” magic but her spells are often better than his (she sells firestorm after all). While she has a low opinion of herself and her ability, she is actually more aware of the demons souls affect on people than anybody else. She is the one who warns you against following freke’s suggestion. She realized that no matter the intentions, the wrongs of the world cannot be righted by demon souls. As she says, “If the demon soul is cursed, so is the witchcraft”. If frieke is more experienced than urban, then yuria is more experienced than frieke.
Side note: I think it’s important to note that sage frieke isn’t talking to the player in good faith. He wants to learn more about demon souls, and he explicitly frames the demon option as a partnership between you and him. His description of the maiden in black to me sounds more like a rationalization in service of his plan rather than actually doing her a favor.
@@donovanwestwater7945 on all fairness there is plenty of reason to doubt the monumental and the maiden in black, we knew that old one used to be a more normal tree and either the sin of man or those sorcerers in the opening did something to it and turned it into what its is now, isn't it curious? why did all the other monumental die? why is a demon cooperating with the monumental? why so many sword in the old one's back? it's almost like those people tried to take control over the symbol of god and when it retaliated they sealed it up, they say the monumental keeps reality anchored? but what does that really means? who decides what normal is? if its the monumental doesn't that make him like god? and the demon lady got to be around all the souls exactly as demon would want, its not difficult to doubt that you may be being used here, it could be those people started with good intentions but one of the monumentals betrayed the others and got rid of them making a pact with the demon lady to rule the world, the tree might be where souls go to before reincarnating hence if people learn soul arts the monumental will be in trouble because the old one will not replenish the power and so his monopoly over reality will be threatened, of course it could be that indeed its just all good intentions but after dark souls 3 the ringed city, bloodborne and elden ring you should already have learned that things arent aways what they seem, even in sekiro the so called immortal dragon was in fact using the power of life steal all along, so yeah i doubt those 2 and if you keep refusing the monumental of of his dialogues mentions that you must hate him and another mentions that the pantheon is for people who sacrificed themselves for "our sins" is that the sin of humans or could i read more into that? i really feel like that people have fully explored the potential of the theories in demons souls, notice how silver is holy, how astrea's knight's houses emblem is a tree and many other tiny details, remember how linking the fire was a great sacrifice until we saw the horror of what gwyn did to the pygmies

Thanks for the video. I do think your theory opens up some possibilities I didn't see before.
A few thoughts:
Noticed the use of King's Field music when explaining the Moonlight Sword.
Demons souls always had the best lore to me. There was something so immersive about this story. It gave you just enough information to understand what it was you were doing but left you wanting to know more. I just wish I could relive demons souls and dark souls 1 like I did the first time. This is hands down my favorite souls game.
Demon's Souls lore never gets the love and attention that Dark Souls and Bloodborne do, even though it's just as rich.
Wait a lore video that isnt 3 years old?!?!?! I go grab my titanite foil hat
This comment didn't age well...
It's worth noting how Astraea didn't consume her demon soul and holds it in her hands.
The golden garb of the Old Monk in Latria is obviously a reference to the King in Yellow.
Do you see the yellow sign?
This is probably the best UA-cam video I’ve ever watched. I rewatch it all the time. The Demons Souls lore and world is like no other in the series to me. It is so interesting, bleak, dark, and I can’t believe Miyazaki achieved all of that in his first game. Sure Dark Souls may have been the more popular game, but this one defies any rules of what a video game should be. Paired with that, the story…the story feels so much better than Dark Souls ❤❤
:)
I’m convinced the entire Souls series was created by a man who was very familiar with depression.
Probably but I think it’s important to remember that not everything is a metaphor. People can be creative without everything having to “mean” something.
You'd actually be right lol

Maiden Astrea remain one of my most memorable bosses in soulsborne game. The only time I felt the same heart-wrenching sorrow was The Boss in MGS3.
moonkinx Sif and Artorias?
Honestly that’s how it was for me. You walk into an arena expecting a boss fight on the same level of disgust as the rest of the Valley of Defilement, only to find what seems to be a couple of romantic partners. Astrea doesn’t care about your mission, she doesn’t care that your world has become a disaster, because she doesn’t care about the Old One. All Astrea ever wanted was to help the people suffering in the Valley, and you wade through a plague to murder her... It really makes you wonder, who’s the real Demon?
Serious Saitama She’s sitting over a pile of gold, not sure how pure her intentions were
You in my story I consider that to be the moment the heart of gold is taken by my characters lack of mercy.

2:03; “The destruction was indescribable... Here’s how the last monumental describes it”.
I like this analysis, especially the Take on Latria and the Valley of Defilement
I always liked how vague and elusive the concept of a "god" as well the concept of "good and evil" was in this game
I rewatch your content a lot, it's good to keep the fog away from my memory of this game, thank you.
And the world falls into a veil of fog, no light, no dark. Only great archtrees and ancient dragons, Until....

A Demon's Souls video in 2020? That, sir, has earned you my subscription!
If you liked this video, check out the analysis video I released along side it.
I have a low-key theory that Patches is actually a Monumental that just grew up when he thought to himself "you guys had one job and you fucked it up" and just decided to fuck over humans for the rest of his life.
This game is so depressing. I *love* it.
I love you
@@Dunge0n Nihilism is a pretty easy concept to understand lol! Maybe lol
To me both games definitely carry the first message.
Wow. Been a fan of Demon's Souls for over a decade, yet your lore exploration, truly was amazing.

A true gem.
💎
First souls game, most memories. Really love the soundtrack for Demon's Souls and atmosphere.
Tower of latria is a very interesting zone

This lore and story telling are so bad ass!! I never considered that the Old One manifests our psychic wishes and beliefs into reality. I also consider the 'bad ending' in a entirely new light. Well done!!
Love the Berserk music with the dragon slayer sword
Finished the remake today and delighted to see the story is fairly obvious if you talk w everybody and read everything. Dark souls was more vague.

the Souls love transcends accents.
Thanks for the quality video, it's clear that put a lot of effort into it ^^
Thank you for all the work you put into these, I've been looking forward to them❤

I love this kind of content and I can tell you put a lot of work in this. I appreciate it and I thank you sir.
Glad you enjoy it!

Perhaps it's a reference to the Idea of Evil from Berserk.
I have no interest towards Demon's and/or Dark Souls but I am so blown away by your Silent Hill story explainations that watched it in one go.

This is first video I watch. Maybe a bit, not as obnoxious as Vaati tho. Regardless, I care more for the content itself rather than the presentation. And it was a good vid.

I just realised that the story of Demons Souls is sort of similar to that of Shadow Of The Colossus. Interesting that Bluepoint remade both games too.
Great work. I really love Demons souls lore and world, and as mentioned below, it is greatly overlooked
.
Thank you for breaking down the story. I learnt a lot.
QUESTION #1:
if maiden cannot die, how is it possible in the end to choose to kill her?
QUESTION #2:
Why both endings will end in despair, the maiden would lul the old one to sleep and therefore we will have peace.
QUESTION #3:
So if we choose to kill the maiden and take the souls, do we also become a blob like king allant?
As you see my questions are on the vagueness of the endings. If you can make a video just talking about the endings and their meanings , it'd be great. (just throwing an idea)
Also, excellent video lorebreakdown. Havent played Demons in years but damn i needed this refresher.
This is the best video I've seen on DeS
Forgive me if I missed it somewhere in the video but there seemed to be no mention of Yuriah the Witch. Was it just not important to the story? I only ask cause I didn't meet her in a play through yet and was curious what her story was
I meentioned her in passing.
She can be saved from imprisonment from the fat ministerand will then sell dark magic.
She was always hated for her witchcraft but it very kind and gentle regardless.
cool hidden area
cool dialogue
cool dark magic for kicks
cool hat
I think it's hilarious but at the same time acurate that the whole reason humanity doomed itself was because it's leader got bored and awakened a demon from it's slumber because it got curious as to see what would happen
This was amazing! Thanks so much for making this video. You're gonna be the new Vaati :)

This is still the best Demon's Souls video.
(Sage Freke's dialogue, directly)
2) The Old One is also the God of Demon's Souls. (Talisman of Beasts, dialogue cues from Saint Urbain, Sage Freke, Yuria)
3) The "chieftain of the lost" from the last archstone is actually Maiden Astraea herself (It's just a bas relief of her with a plague doctor mask on).
World 1 and World 4)
5) You are a demon. (Pre-Old One cutscene, Maiden in Black's dialogue)
6) Miracles are _also_ Soul Arts. All of the Soul Arts draw upon the power of the Old One. (Various dialogue, Monumental cutscene)
7) People generally believed Vallarfax escaped the grey fog to warn the world of the fall of Boletaria, when in truth, Executioner Miralda assassinated him (World 1-1 side area corpse, Biorr and Ostrava's dialogue).
8) When you complete the game, regardless of your choice, your character awakes in a new iteration of the same exact world, with all of their power and gear intact, but all progress reset. Putting the Old One to sleep frees one world, but *you* are forever bound to the Nexus, no matter what you do. (NG end cutscene, NG+ cutscene)
9) In the world of Demon's Souls, the term "dark souls" is used to refer to phantoms who have lost their way and gone mad- in other words, hollows.
