You describe exactly why I love gouache so much. I haven’t been painting much in the last year but i bought some more gouache that was on sale and now I’m back into it. I love the Windsor and newton brand a lot. I got a mixed media beige sketchbook and I just enjoy painting random shapes bc I enjoy putting paint on the paper even when I don’t have anything in particular I want to paint.
Truly the greatest joys of art is in the creation of the image while drawing, leaving the final steps to paint. It is those first uncertain strokes of the brush that awaken in us expressions that we never saw. Your talk of contrast or color as if they are separate choices are often more about one leading the other down a path we may have never taken without the others aid. Its more a balancing act, where the cool or warm accents really help define our views of the world we hope to capture in those few seconds of realization. That's really all we have to confirm our initial impressions of the moment. You do some wonderful work my friend. Your senses are so in tune with where your heart is leading, with only later sensibilities causing you any pause. My thanks, and very best wishes on all you produce.

@@jeanbean_bc just a follower of this painter and little more. Often in my expression there trails a lilt in what is said. Perhaps it is much of what I've read thru the years that tinges my coarse use of the tongue. I condense what a few consider literary license, as I am not so eloquent as I readily wax at times. I mearly shear back what often seems superfluous or simply unnecessary in most cases. It is a trifle I would wish to lose entirely.
This was fun to watch! Hadn’t thought about painting over old drawings…might have to try that myself
Your art is captivating, really like how the pen seeps through underneath the gouache!
I believe that is made of Ceramic. I use that too for mixing watercolors because it's easy to clean. Paints don't stick or stain the container which is perfect ♥️

now that i’ve used artist grade gouache paints, i find it hard to get back at Miya except for playing/ testing colors. i use holbein too and i agree on how brilliant they look. the paint also glides smoothly too.. but they tend to crack of they’re put in palette so i try my best to use it fresh out of tubes. thank you for sharing your artworks. it inspires me to play again with my gouache paints 💕

Great idea!
I've watched several of your videos and you seem to really like blending colors and subtle value changes. Have you considered trying out oil paint? I feel like that may be a better medium for your preferred style of painting, rather than gouache, which rewards sharper value/color changes and a more "drawerly" stroke dependent style of painting.
