This has funny timing popping up on my feed. I'm actually reading a historical account of Henty V and it makes very clear that conquest was Henry's goal from the very first minute. Like he went to incredible lengths to make the French look like the instigators and the ones operating in bad faith. Also he was determined to marry a French princess. Though it seemed like he didn't much care which one, but I think Katherine was the most convenient choice.
@Kry Kry I'm sure she had a dialect coach to make sure her accent was perfect but she's listened to her mom's accent her entire life so it mustn't be that difficult to emulate for 5 minutes of dialogue.
Catherine was incredible. I was not expecting her to be so ice cold and shrewd. She made Henry look impulsive, juvenile and completely ignorant to his actions against his former morals.
Louise... while you are jumping on the Catherine bandwagon try to give Henry V some credit. After all he did mature into a man and a king and the fact that he allowed Catherine to speak to him in such a bold manner just proves that he respected her as a wife and queen and was grateful to her for helping him acknowledge his faults and shortcomings. Also, Catherine was right about him being the son of a usurper but in all fairness to his late father and predecessor Henry IV the king whose throne Henry IV usurped wasn't much of a king anyway.

Harry Paul true but we have no idea how similar situations this long ago really played out. Official documents and the like aren’t going to accurately reflect the social dynamics particularly with young people
Katherine was later brave enough to defy the Court and Parliament to marry the man she loved. And her older sister was the widow of the King Henry's father usurped. Perhaps not so much of a stretch that she might have spoken her mind to Henry.
@Harry Paul Yes that's pretty much it. The court and Parliament would have wanted her to be a widow forever but she married against their wishes. The Beaufort angle is interesting as he later allegedly romanced Margaret of Anjou. He must have had a thing for French queen consorts!
@Harry Paul Also in terms of the later doubts about whether Katherine and Owen were married I always assumed they were as he was imprisoned after her death on the basis of breaking the law about marrying the King's widow. The dynamic they build between the two of them I’m so little screen time is amazing. I love how she instantly gets Henry’s trust and respect by being plain with him. “I will not submit to you”…very strong character building in just one scene.
@Tabitha J Careful with that , daughters of french kings are just as ruthless as king themselves . Never heard of the she-wolf of France ? Her husband ( king of england ) left her for a man and subjected her to all kind of humiliations , you know what she did about that ? Came to France raised an army came back to england and deposed the king ( probably had him kill in his cell ) . TLDR : Don't f*ck with queens .
styu3 knewton i got more like a disappointed mom with a sense of “lets see what he says” like when your mom says “how did the vase in the hallway get shattered” shes talking to him like a child cause she sees him as a child
Her character and delivery was earth shaking and pace shattering! It seems her character was THE most intelligent of the monarchy and thus proves that suppressing women as rulers back then might've cost many of lives and many o countries because they might've been better rulers than men! Lily delivered this character masterfully especially when she bubbled the word "ball" in her mouth 3:24, she said it with utmost disgust without even a frown!! And when she looked him up and down in disappointment when she basically called him foolish and immature... she was BRILLIANT!!! His character HENRY was never the same after that!!! His epiphany emerged at 4:25, that changed his character and his rule forever!! She brought back HAL, who'd been lost to Henry! So many people were killed over this ploy, even his own COUSIN...his best friend charged into war for him... but for what? The twist was AMAZING!! Kings have no friends, only followers and foe...but Queens are more than friends, they are a King's ROCK! I'm sure she made a great queen!
It’s also great because when the “France sent an Assassin” excuse is thrown out by Princess Catherine, King Henry is forced to resort to the very childish “Did you know of the Ball he sent to me??” At which point Catherine can only smirk at him, as if to say “You started a war over a ball? The ball wasn’t even from France”
only wished the filmmakers threw out the battle scene and gave more screen time to allow Hal to develop as a character, and also more time with the soon-to-be queen. Their main scene together felt too quick. Why would he believe her every word so quickly? Why accept her words 'i will not submit to you', so quickly? I'm glad she's a strong character but he was too quick to trust her.
Wow. That was incredible acting from Lily. She was so subtle. She spoke volumes with just a slight twitch of her face and inclination of her tone. Already a master of not ‘over doing’ it. She just owned him and won his respect in one brutal conversation without ever raising her voice 👸🏻🙇🏻♀️ 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Lily-Rose should quit modelling and focus on acting, although she is beautiful she never really was a good fit for the modelling world. She really took after her father, I hope to see more of her on screen.
Rainbow Cake I’m not trying to start anything, but what are you talking about? How do you know if she was ‘fit for the modelling world’ or not? Do you know her personally? Let her do what she wants, Jesus. Why do people have to act like they know the celebrity?
Ella Clayton it's really not that deep, chill. Sure they worded stuff wrong and she doesn't have to quit modelling at the request of anyone, but it's still not that deep lol. I think she means Lily as a model is not that good of one because of her work, not just people thinking they know her personally lol, she works with Chanel sure but no one has an eye on her as "omg the next iconic model of the century nor the decade". However her acting is clearly good and could do so much better, just that
Lily Rose Depp has her father's youthful charisma and his talent. She'll go far if she keeps acting. Chalamet is, of course, a great actor already. They had real chemistry in this brief but important scene.
this scene was brilliantly written and acted; i found that despite the fact had few female characters, but even with that the female characters like Henry's sister and Catherine are the voice of reason. in fact Phillipa's advice is like forshadowing which Henry doesnt truly consider is so close to home until it is too late. And the way Henry comes out towards Catherine seeking her out just for the fact that she was bluntly honest with him. Each female character in position of authority one way or another, Phillipa in her experience dealing with courtiers which ends up being true, Hooper who is a business woman and who Falstaff is indebted to, and Catherine in her knowledge of truth behind the war. Oh an i loved that look of anguish he displayed at the very end to show you the tragedy in the ending. It feels more like a tragedy especially if you know history and what would happen to his son.
I pondered about the women after this movie. The fact that despite having no choice in whom to marry living in a man's world, they didn't give up but still chose to influence and stay strong with whatever cards they were dealt with showed much resilience and wisdom.
I've become a fan of her's from this scene alone. It was just one scene and the most important in the film. The actress playing the role had to deliver so much in such little time and she was perfect! "All monarchy is illegitimate" what a great burn!
Well not Henry technically, rather Robert. It would be "Robert's rebellion was built upon a lie." commenting on the fact that Ned's sister wasn't captured and raped, but married and in love with the Targaryan prince. (Can't really remember their names)
Love the ending to this film, so powerful! Leaves you with goosebumps, the way the chanting of ‘King Henry’ can be heard throughout, the music, and then just how ‘THE KING’ pops up and fades out. That’s how you end a film!
I must say, the rhythm of her lines and her tone is just perfect for the scene. Lily rly has a talent in acting, I hope to see her more on screen in the future
She’s not in the movie for long but damn, her performance is incredible. The way she looks at him says so many things without her even needing to speak. And when she just says « a ball? », it’s amazing how with 2 words she points out the ridicule of the situation, and her intonation is flawless, it’s just perfect
I love both of their acting in this, as well as how their newcome romance is portrayed. They didn’t kiss or do anything except hold hands and it was really simple and nice.
I honestly find the movie a little bit slow-paced at the beginning but man the last 15 minutes is absolute gold. The conversation with catherine, the built up to the reveal, the swift and clean execution, his humble request to catherine. And you can tell that catherine totally respects that request
Their chemistry is to die for!!! Lily rose Depp's screen presence was so strong and her dialogue delivery was amazing the way she reacted ' a ball???' was wonderful as if she was laughing in her heart.Timothee chalamet is indeed charismatic as king henry he emote so well through his eyes 'I must leave u now' how her words tormented him not their severity but their righteousness.Wonderfully acted by both and by every actor. This movie deserves to win a bucket of awards.
My partner is French and I cant tell you how many times she's gracefully explained things to me, leaving me speechless and on a better path. Clearing my mind with positivity and truth with no biases based on what's truly the better option and not a binary decision based off emotion and reaction.
She is the best mix of her parents. Strikingly beautiful like her Mother and exceptionally talented like her Father. I simply love this film, haven't seen it in so long 😍
This scene was fantastic. Lily-Rose did really well despite only featuring for a few minutes. It’s puts the whole plot on its head. Has the audience doubting everything they’ve just seen. Very clever ending.
When I first saw this scene, I was absolutely blown away by her acting, even if it was only in the last few minutes of the movie. She must have had so much preparation time to perfect that French accent, because it is absolutely flawless, the way she pronounces and annunciates every little single detail of her words. What an amazing cast this movie had.
It takes great screen presence to hold your own against oscar nominated performers. So I think Lily definitely has that x factor. She is only 20. I am sure with age she will be more polished. And if she has an ounce of the total talent of her parents she will have a great future.
Henry said that he sent me a ball and instantly realizes how stupid he sounds. It's amazing how a person staring silently at you makes you retrospect more than so-called advisers.
Yes and No , she is an excellent actress but they did well to only show her character when it was pertinent , any more could've felt convoluted and useless . It is a fragile balance to keep . If there is a sequel , she will most definitely have way more screen time since onward she is the queen .
I have to admit I like her acting a lot. Before watching those scenes I thought she was just some little extra. But she really brings intensity to this show. Good job no doubt.
Really love this scene. I love how the movie does an excellent job, early on, to get you on board with the rationale for war, and later, to make you feel exactly how fickle it was. You can just feel as he's getting pissed, as he's realizing. As she starts asking him what more was there to justify and he just lashes out about "the ball he sent me". As he's hearing himself say it he realizes how meaningless it all is. "A ball?.... he sent to you... a ball?" Like "yeah it kinda felt like it made sense in the moment..... but now that I think of it huh...."
Lily-Rose's acting in this scene was excellent. She was ice cold, her stare was so belittling the whole time.

@@gee2541 Because female characters were unnecessary for the most part. If you havent noticed, most of this 2 hour movie only revolved around King Henry V and a few of his close advisers, which at that time, were all men.
But I do get your point. The film is already historically inaccurate as it is, a few female characters wouldnt hurt aint it?
Same as in history. Behind closed doors many powerful men listened to their wives
Vee B. Women weren't a big part of public life. It's very realistic that women were not in those scenes
I loveeee how she says “a ball”
Yessss
Ball? They say boar you dumbdumb.
when?
The dynamic they build between the two of them I’m so little screen time is amazing. I love how she instantly gets Henry’s trust and respect by being plain with him. “I will not submit to you”…very strong character building in just one scene.
"I'll not submit to you,you must earn my respect" .... she COLD
@Tabitha J
Careful with that , daughters of french kings are just as ruthless as king themselves .
Cold? Sounds to me like any person with self-respect, not someone necessarily cold
@@stormbringer2840 You're referring to Margaret of Anjou, and no, she lost that war. Her son was killed and she died in exile.
@@jupiterrising887
Nope I was talking about the Shewolf of France who is Isabella of France .
@@stormbringer2840 I'll have to look her up, thanks for the reference.
6 minutes onscreen and they started dating after this? Boy oh boy sign me up
I mean she's hot, he's hot, they're both half French, around the same age. Really is just nature running its course lol.
Wait they're dating in real life?
Tiki80 yes
Melissa Ngai they been dating for about a year
they're actually started dating about a year ago long before this movie is made
4:08 "so easily riled...so easily beguiled"
Her character was such an interesting one despite how little scenes she was in
Dunno why but I love that line at 1:46. Love the way she delivers it!
It was a challenging question, she asked because she was really interested in what he thought
styu3 knewton i got more like a disappointed mom with a sense of “lets see what he says” like when your mom says “how did the vase in the hallway get shattered” shes talking to him like a child cause she sees him as a child
The Snowflake Diaries yeah same. It was like ; “u proud of yourself?”
“You yourself are the son of an usurpar!” SAVAGE!
He did kill her brother and just bash her father
Her Grandson became kind of a usurper aswell 😂
This really should of been a miniseries or something
The potential missed! It would have been so great.
Maybe they could do a reboot with different actors
The way she said “a ball?”. Nailed it... you could practically feel Hal’s realization as to what had happened.
Where ?
3:25
I love when she goes “ a ball 🤨 ?”
LOL IKR
Totally nailed it!
Remember that this is fiction. They changed lots of things in this movie to have a better plot doesnt mean it actually happened.
only wished the filmmakers threw out the battle scene and gave more screen time to allow Hal to develop as a character, and also more time with the soon-to-be queen. Their main scene together felt too quick. Why would he believe her every word so quickly? Why accept her words 'i will not submit to you', so quickly? I'm glad she's a strong character but he was too quick to trust her.
@@TheAlcoholicPigeon yes he sounded so childish in that moment
Incredible how great charisma all the actors had in this movie.
"I ask nothing of you,
only that you will always
speak to me clear and true"
I love the moment when she says "a ball?" that moment he realized he was played. Such great acting for both sides
She had like 6 mins screentime and her performance blew me away! God, i wish we could’ve seen more of her. They all did so amazing! I loved it!
Lily-Rose should quit modelling and focus on acting, although she is beautiful she never really was a good fit for the modelling world. She really took after her father, I hope to see more of her on screen.
Rainbow Cake I agree
Are you saying that she is Fat?
What's wrong with you
Lyla M lol she’s obviously not fat. This was a compliment to her strength in acting
However her acting is clearly good and could do so much better, just that
so young and so talented, both of them, really impressive...
Lily Rose Depp has her father's youthful charisma and his talent. She'll go far if she keeps acting. Chalamet is, of course, a great actor already. They had real chemistry in this brief but important scene.
Yes they did. I would LOVE to see them in a movie again with more screen time as a couple.
this scene was brilliantly written and acted; i found that despite the fact had few female characters, but even with that the female characters like Henry's sister and Catherine are the voice of reason. in fact Phillipa's advice is like forshadowing which Henry doesnt truly consider is so close to home until it is too late.
I caught all of that as well. Those men had their own kingdom behind their eyes
I pondered about the women after this movie. The fact that despite having no choice in whom to marry living in a man's world, they didn't give up but still chose to influence and stay strong with whatever cards they were dealt with showed much resilience and wisdom.
she was like in the movie for five minutes and she's like a main character wtf?
Her scenes were some of the most pivotal for the story.
If it wasn't for her he wouldn't knew he was been beguiled by one of the man he trusted the most
Honestly
When she says 'ball'??? My spirit ascends into heaven. #perfection
Oh I know. I bet men looking stupid just makes the pleasure center of your brain THROB. Gosh, if only real life were like this, huh???
I've become a fan of her's from this scene alone. It was just one scene and the most important in the film. The actress playing the role had to deliver so much in such little time and she was perfect! "All monarchy is illegitimate" what a great burn!
"Henry's war was built upon a lie," Bran Stark.
Abdul Shukor Hadi did he say that in GOT?
Well not Henry technically, rather Robert. It would be "Robert's rebellion was built upon a lie." commenting on the fact that Ned's sister wasn't captured and raped, but married and in love with the Targaryan prince. (Can't really remember their names)
@@orphicophelia Rhaegar Targayen and Lyanna Stark.

@@trulysaiyan5226 no he didn't, I just used that quote to paraphrase Henry's situation here, hahaha
Timothée's acting throughout this movie is for best actor! Oscar come on.
I really hope he gets nominated. But I'm gonna have to go with Phoenix for Joker on this one!

She’s not in the movie for long but damn, her performance is incredible. The way she looks at him says so many things without her even needing to speak. And when she just says « a ball? », it’s amazing how with 2 words she points out the ridicule of the situation, and her intonation is flawless, it’s just perfect
Powerful scene. They have undeniable chemistry together. Very nice!
The chanting of King Henry in the background gives me the chills. Such an amazing movie
Lily had to remain this face and i can see so many emotions in her eyes. And her accent and talking manner was so beautiful. When she says a ball..
3:22 she's like oh boy im gonna DESTROY this man's whole career
I love both of their acting in this, as well as how their newcome romance is portrayed. They didn’t kiss or do anything except hold hands and it was really simple and nice.
These young actor/actress made me fall in love with the genre again. Such a good movie…
The acting in this movie is just superb. Such an engaging film.
My partner is French and I cant tell you how many times she's gracefully explained things to me, leaving me speechless and on a better path. Clearing my mind with positivity and truth with no biases based on what's truly the better option and not a binary decision based off emotion and reaction.
Great. That's not what's happening in this scene.
I didn't know Depp even had a daughter, and to find out it was her, impressive
I didn’t know Lily was this serious of an actor, Timothee is always impeccable
Those scenes were among the most powerful, Lily Rose Depp was a true revelation.
I am so in love with the depth of his voice and the softness of hers dear god help me
She's actually trying to help him here. That's what makes the scene great.
Her performance, the way she portrayed this character, everything, absolutely brilliant even Timothee chalamet such a good actor 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼😩😍😍😍😍
She is the best mix of her parents. Strikingly beautiful like her Mother and exceptionally talented like her Father. I simply love this film, haven't seen it in so long 😍
Are we looking at the same woman? She just looks like some of the slightly ugly girls I used to go to school with in the 8th grade.
She grew up half in France as her mother is a French singer and model
Lily give an amazing performance in less of 6 minutes congratulations.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love how he’s looking at her at the end😍
he looked so good with this haircut
Do not encourage bowl cuts
If you are as handsome as he is you can pretty much pull any style off even a bowl haircut
That was such a captivating scene. Her expression when she said "A ball?" That was everything.
“I ask nothing of you. Only that you will speak to me clear and true. Always.”
Yesss she’s a smart girl Henry😌
I was super impressed with her acting, a good film
The best part of the whole movie to be honest. Lily Rose nails it 👌
I like the Way how Timothée acts . He's soooo capable
It takes great screen presence to hold your own against oscar nominated performers. So I think Lily definitely has that x factor. She is only 20. I am sure with age she will be more polished. And if she has an ounce of the total talent of her parents she will have a great future.
Timothee Chalamet isn’t a powerhouse actor lmao
@@serenitybeats1677 he will be.
It's actually scary that's she's only 20 in this scene. She delivers lines and emotes like she's been acting for 50 yrs. She has IT.
“A ball he sent you a ball” is such a great yet simple line
She was honest and true, like Sir Jon was always.
Her voice and accent, oh my god, i can watch this million times.
Henry said that he sent me a ball and instantly realizes how stupid he sounds.
It's amazing how a person staring silently at you makes you retrospect more than so-called advisers.
Lily-Rose definitely owned her scenes 🔥👸
This scene was so beautiful the acting is extraordinary! Timothée and Lily did a really god job! And their accent omg so beautiful
Lily did an amazing job , I am French and I love the way that she sounds natural

Yes and No , she is an excellent actress but they did well to only show her character when it was pertinent , any more could've felt convoluted and useless . It is a fragile balance to keep .

She’s simply stunning
I have to admit I like her acting a lot. Before watching those scenes I thought she was just some little extra. But she really brings intensity to this show. Good job no doubt.
Really love this scene. I love how the movie does an excellent job, early on, to get you on board with the rationale for war, and later, to make you feel exactly how fickle it was. You can just feel as he's getting pissed, as he's realizing. As she starts asking him what more was there to justify and he just lashes out about "the ball he sent me". As he's hearing himself say it he realizes how meaningless it all is. "A ball?.... he sent to you... a ball?"
Like "yeah it kinda felt like it made sense in the moment..... but now that I think of it huh...."
