Thanks for helping me retrace my footsteps. Its a truly beautiful area. Great to see you using a map and compass. Enjoyed this walk immensely. Truly a glimpse of heaven.
Just watched this one Abbie. One of my favourite walks too. I was there this June, my sister and I had Tarr Steps to ourselves in the evening sunshine. Very special.
I think that's the thing about rivers Abbie. Across the globe they have been a constant for many millions of people. It's that perennial flow. Wake up and there is the river. Of course they have changing moods but in the main they are dependable like here now. Great walk - lots of flowing goodness through the screen. Take care. Mark
A pleasure Abbie. It was another good one. Yes, I love rivers to especially the Wye. I get the joy from you. I was back up the Wye source the other day. Would you be kind enough to watch and comment on the video. It would be an honor. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/4NNgFSzyCsk/v-deo.html hope you enjoy it. Any way, look forward to your next adventure. Take good care...
Have just liked and subscribed xx your kit looks excellent. Love Exmoor and especially Tarr Steps. Was there in September x maybe you could do the circular woodland walk and narrate it?
The best views that I have seen so far. Such a wide variety of landscapes. So many historical sites especially the stone circles. Enjoyed the video. Keep them coming as I know people enjoy your work.
Seriously great quality your videos. Rate them the same as watching countyfile. Would love to put my classes across as good as these..should be on TV x
Thanks Steve! That would be the dream but then wouldnt be so freely available to everyone. Never ever will I take being able to do this for granted - it is such a blessing and I love sharing walks with you guys!
Thank you for the lovely video. I was browsing for tarr steps after reading about it and then found your video. Beautiful area. Hope to visit and walk there some day!
Hi Abbie, great walk, we did it yesterday but the in reverse order to your walk. Really nice bowl of chips at Hotel pub at Tarr Steps😋 A good way of testing your gear for its waterproof ability! Wild river and weather but worth every minute, a big thank you for putting this walk out there, definitely do it again.
Hi Abbie, I've just discovered your channel after looking for places to visit when we go on holiday to North Devon next month. Taking my daughter there for the first time. Lynmouth, Valley of the rocks, watersmeet, and the Tarr steps are on our list. Maybe Dunkery beacon if we have time. Love your videos. Hope your well, take care....
A beautiful walk and a great video. It's a pity indeed that Dartmoor and Exmoor are such a long way from Essex putting day walks out of reach for me unless, of course, time and circumstances permit visiting for a loooong weekend (and preferably not a bank holiday!).
Best of luck with the Two Moors Way, Abbie. I've heard the waymarking isn't as good in some places as it is in others - I noticed an absence of the 'MW' near Exe Head last Monday - but I'm sure you can overcome that. ;-) I also noticed similar lines of defences crossing Badgworthy Water... Some kids were trying to cross them but I'd no idea they put in place to 'manage' fallen trees and branches.
Another great walk Abbie. I really admire your nav skills. As for the devil’s bridge, they need to send in the Three Billy Goats Gruff to trip trap across there and settle things.
Thanks Patrick - they need improving a lot but I enjoy practicing and building my skills - anyone can do it though and I feel it is very important! Ha, thats brilliant!
Absolutely love your videos! You share with me trails I may never see (I live in the US). If you are ever in the US, look me up. The Appalachian Trail is nearby.
Hi Kevin, I have reviewed all the boots I use - check out my gear reviews section on my channel. Couldn't really comment on arch support as all our feet are different, but if you have a pair you like already it is possible to get insoles. Maybe pop down to your local store and have a chat with them :)
Another great video Abbie. Very timely because I will be on holiday in Somerset, early next month and will be using the opportunity to explor Exmoor. I would like to do this walk while I there, do you have a gpx route for it? Thank you.
There's a new footbridge going in across the Barle midway between Tarr Steps and Withypool. Avoid doing the riverbank walk until after Dec 2024 for that very reason. There is also a large bull in one of the fields next to Westwater Farm which the footpath in this video goes through.
Joyseeker different places have a different adjustment and it is so small here it's hardly with it. Plus I was trying to film it quickly rather than give an instructional video, but maybe I'll mention that next time. Thanks!
My attitude when I had to do "Dead Reckoning" on basic training. Of course I delayed the truck back to barracks. hehe. Good Vid and kit reviews. I own a Nallo 2 from 20 years ago sadly stored. The poles are same length and no zip for the vent.... much better.
A few weeks ago, following the partial lifting of restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, my first walk outside the immediate area where I live was over the rolling moorland to Tarr Steps. I wondered whether it was a wise place to go as it is always popular in the summer, however half of the West Country decided to head for Durdle Door and Bournemouth instead. I have walked to Tarr Steps several times and I am sure that once when I walked up the Barle to Withypool I saw fish in the river at the exact same location where you stopped. Did I see a water bottle on the front seat of your car on top of your rucksack? I did that a few weeks ago and seriously regretted it. When I got home there was a large puddle on the seat cover and my rucksack was absolutely soaked. The rucksack can dry but my camera won't. It was as dead as a doornail. I have leak-tested the water bottle twice since then by standing it upside down on the draining board in my kitchen but it has not leaked one drop! In some ways I wish it had leaked because I would have just thrown it away and got another one. Keep up the videos. I don't often come across reasonably serious walkers out on Exmoor and you are doing something really good to encourage people to do their own thing and get out a bit more.
Your video is proof, if any was needed, that England is and always has been Middle Earth. Lovely!
Love this!!
Ageed, whenever I visit Devon and Exmoor I feel like I'm in the Shire

I so need to do this route.
Enjoyed that one thanks. Roll on spring so I can do that one.

Thanks Abbie. I’m loving your videos. Fabulous production quality and wonderful entertaining content.
Was at Withypool for the bank holiday weekend. Beautiful place. Great video.

Ikr..my mind got fuzzy when she started on it lol
Love this walk! Doing it tomorrow. Walked the Two Moors Way in two days, nearly broke me😰😊
Absolutely love your videos! You share with me trails I may never see (I live in the US). If you are ever in the US, look me up. The Appalachian Trail is nearby.
Thanks for the comment and watching! Would love to do the AT some day!!
Abbie Barnes | Song Thrush Productions Keep us in mind when you head this way!
Another great vid. Abbie have you ever reviewed hiking/Walking boots or shoes? Wondering what are the best which include arch support..

great video have you walked the exmoor perambulation 30 miles june 22 this year .
Another great video Abbie. Very timely because I will be on holiday in Somerset, early next month and will be using the opportunity to explor Exmoor. I would like to do this walk while I there, do you have a gpx route for it? Thank you.
I don't but I'll get the GR in the description as soon as I can!! Just head to Withypool and you'll see the route quite clearly on the map :)
That's great, thanks Abbie.
I have a friend from England here in the States, I am going to share this with her. I want to introduce her to your vlogs. You are amazing!
Thanks Tom! All the best :)

How come once you had the bearing for Withy Pool you didn't adjust for magnetic north?

A sloped mesh wire net would work.
There’s a better money tree at Ingleton waterfall trail. We did a video on that if you want to check it out. 😊
