How to re-charge the air conditioning in your vehicle.
Kits are now available where you can re-gas your own vehicles air conditioning. These kits are about half the price of having the job done at a garage.
    Does it work?

I am a (retired) teacher and I can tell you that this video was very well presented : clear, concise and to-the-point.
It is also very helpful from the technical point of view : I just did not know you could DIY.
From the financial point of view : Terrific. I've always felt that the aircon guy was taking me for a ride.
    Thanks a million !

Also changing cabin filter helps the system as few people even know that same requires changing...this helps crossflow of air through the cooling coil

the low pressure port is on the side of the biggest pipes or hoses of your ac system.(return line from the condensor)
    search the ac compressor.
you will see a little metallic and a more bigger piping.
from here follow the bigger( it will go in the firewall)
the low pressure port is there.

I just used a can of ezChill r134a on a 1985 ford e350 w/ 460 7.5L engine, already retrofitted. video gave me piece of mind...no problems! low pressure cap was black and hose went to firewall...high pressure cap was red and went to condenser. thanks!

I was shopping around looking for best prices for a aircon re-gas kit, one of the local motor factors that I contacted said it was highly dangerous and said I should go to a garage. Even said that my existing system should be drained before refilling, and that it was difficult to tell how much gas was being transferred and could damage the system. To be honest, it looks straight forward enough to me. So after talking to you I've just ordered one online., managed to order one from amazon for £38

Thanks to your video I was able recharge my A/C. Even with your accent (wonderful as it is) I was able to understand the simple directions. I even found the same brand you used in my local auto parts store. I used the larger can for SUV's since that is what I own. My husband was impressed. Shhh! This video is my little secret ;) Cheers!

i gave this a go, i purchased both the gauge & can, i checked the pressure with the gauge first -the instructions say keep the a/c running for 3 minutes first, car was showing perfect based on the outside ambient temp-it was showing around 33 PSI
Then checked again in the cooler evening and showing at 25 PSI, and i had the air con running for 30 mins before that, so R134a not needed but good to check it anyway.
the temp reading at the vent varied from around 6 C to 10 C
the car is 3 years old.

Hey, great vid and best of all it works subject to a couple of two things (which aren't your fault). One, its not that easy to find the low pressure port which inconveniently looks just like the high pressure port where you definitely don't want to apply the recharge. Second, I had to fiddle about to get my adapter and canister to discharge any refrigerant. Once sorted all of it worked exactly as per your top video.

Just checked the price of these on Ebay and they are almost £60. Eurofit Autocentres do a full air con re-gas.Re-oil and service for £40. That includes injecting with a dye to find any leaks for now and in the future.

Around me, the cheapest A/C recharge is about $80. One of the rip-off chain stores wanted $200 for a recharge. Anyway, the original compressor in my car died and sent shredded bits of itself into the rest of the system. After an expensive repair, it worked but would start blowing warm air after 1-2 years. After many diagnostic tests at two different shops, it was determined that their was a slow leak from the compressor. I use EZ Chill as a cheap fix since the car is now just a junker.

  • @benchaud-s8q
    @benchaud-s8q 13 років тому

Re the temperature from the vent, after around 10mins with the aircon on full cold and the vents facing face, the temperature should be around 5-7 Celsius, so 16 is not cold unless you did not give the air con enough time to operate. The best test though is to test on a hot day and if its cold it works!

i just bought one of these EZ Chill. I got quoted about $800.00 to fix my air conditioning on my 96 Chevy s-10 to fix the leak it has. So hopefully this works since i got it recharged last year and it worked fine through the summer as iam sure its a slow leak. But iam not paying the 800 for fix or the 150 to get it charged back up at a shop. So iam gonna try the EZ Chill.

this works but just make sure that your aircon works in the first place. If you let it sit for a while or you have moisture inside the system this will not work. You have to vacuum test the system first, get all the air out and then do a proper fill with ezchill.

  • @verbalkintlives
    @verbalkintlives 12 років тому

I hit the same problem as albrigcb in that nothing seemed to happening for 30 minutes too. Was going to take it back to Halfords but what worked for me was that I unscrewed the adaptor from the cannister and screwed it back on - I did this 3-4 times and presto it gave me a proper blast of 'gas' when I pulled the trigger (naughty to do it without connecting to the car but hey). After that it started working and got to the green pressure zone in under 5 minutes. The A/C seems to be working now.

  • @ihatemacs9

@VIKINGODIN there may be something wrong with the compressor or compressor clutch. make sure the pressure is optimal and check all the accesory belts too.
a/c system has a parasitic draw on your engine's performance because of the way the belts are driven. in short, the belts are turned by your engine. the more accessories you run, the greater the load on the engine.

I've read about one guy who has used these auto AC refill kits successfully on home ACs, but he says the fittings on the lines need to be changed to the automotive variety before you can attach the filler hose. Naturally, this would mean you would legally need a recovery tank to evacuate any refrigerant that's still present in the system. Mind you, all of the el-cheapo brand home AC units I've personally opened up have solid lines with no serviceable fittings.

Im supposing nobody has realised something simple...if your system has lost refrigerant, it means it has a leak. Re-gassing will give you results but ultimately the leak needs to be fixed. Not to mention the high chance of overcharging the system, also the chance of blowing the compressor if liquid slugs down the Low pressure line..........A/C & Refrigeration Engineer

Yeah I've seen it there as well, the law on this stuff is a bit odd, you can buy it but not use it (unless qualified). There is some question if the cans themselves are legal as non refillable refrigerant containers have also been banned for a few years.
If you are interested in the training requirements look up 'F-gas MAC' on the Defra site. Had to go on a 3 day course so i could continue to work on stationary ac systems its like Gas Safe/Corgi for fridges! Was only aiming to inform not stir!

Is the clutch suppose to turn on and off like that? (about 30secs on and 10secs off) or is it suppose to be more steady? I'm getting cold air now but still havent met my pressure in between the "V".

I think you can take it to a garage and they remove your refrigerant, then you can have it put back in after the pump has been replaced.
I'm sure you are not supposed to release the refrigerant into the atmosphere, but could be wrong.
You could of course use this to top the system back up afterwards.

Wander R. Reyes True if totally recharge an empty system but NOT true for the DIY top-off kits. They sell millions of them and they work fine and do NOT cause compressors to "burn up". This is just more nonsense fear-mongering. Truth is if the top-off doesn't work you're off to a proper shop anyway.

Would it not have been also good to "bomb" the car and changed the air pollen filter at the same time.

Man cost me nearly 100$ to buy the same thing from Walmart. Two small cans of gas 20$ each and the tubing with pressure guage 40$
