      Great to hear that, I have a 2019 RGS and with 660 miles it had transferred almost all the oil to the primary, My store is pretty close but like you said it ended up costing me some coin since i requested the 1k service ( time vs mileage). My 2018 streetglide had the transfer issue. There is a company out there that makes a thicker clutch push rod that eliminates the transfer issue. So far it worked for a few thousand people. I only manage to put a few hundred miles on my bike than I had to put it up for winter.

    My bike was told to me to not have had the vent installed. I paid $100 for the vent install. I just changed oil in all 3 holes and found I had almost no oil in my transmission. The was a huge amount out of the primary. The vent “DID NOT” fix my issue. I am not sure what the deal is here, but there are a lot more videos out there that show the major issue is the point of transfer.

    • @DKCustomProducts

      Man, sorry to hear that. First step I would take is make sure the vent was installed properly, and is functioning.

    I have a 2015 Road Glide Special. A couple years ago I changed the transmission drive pulley to 30 tooth. Last year I installed the Mueller clutch slave cylinder. Now I am having the transmission oil level mysteriously drop. I have checked, and rechecked, and rechecked and cannot find a leak so am skeptical that the tranny oil level dropping is related to anything I've done. So I'm left to conclude that I am having the transfer issue. I have researched and found that, though less commonly, the '15 Twin Cam bikes also do occasionally have this problem. The primary does seem to be somewhat fuller but not dramatically. But, when you think about it, there is really nowhere else for the tranny fluid to go. I am soon going to change out the top cover of the trans to the old style with the pipe fitting and larger vent hose. After watching this video, and especially after reading your much appreciated updated comments, and, for the low cost, I will be doing this primary vent deal also. Thanks very much.

I have a 2020 Street Glide and I just starting getting fluid transfer from trans to primary within the last 1,000 miles. The bike has 105,000 miles, but this is the first time it's been an issue. It looks like vent tube this will address the exact issue I am having, but will my local dealer say no because it's a 2020? Or can/should I push the issue to get it addressed?

      About halfway thru the 2019 model year HD started putting this vent hose on all M8's. So your 2020 should have one from the factory. BUT, if it does not, then it should be added.
      Is your Air Cleaner venting externally? If not you may want to consider venting it externally to keep that blow by out of your intake and build up off your pistons.

      Heating and cooling at different rates than the engine and the trans definitely have an affect. There are many other theories on why the oil transfers,,,the clutch rod being a culprit. But it appears the vent in the primary solves the transfer for 99.999% of the folks. It has for me.

But in order for them to evaluate the oil transfer problem on my bike I have to allow them to change the oil at the next service so that they can measure the oil capacity in the two places and contact Harley with the results. And a service is 350 dollars. Now I’m going to tell them not to replace the Transmission oil because even the owners manual doesn’t require you to change that every 5K. But The fact that I’m going to request that they use Amsoil products so it is probably going to make the 350 dollars go up to 375 . See my friend is a dealer and I think I pay around 10 dollars a quart for it and I think the Harley dealership sales it for 14 dollars a quart. When the time I’m just going to pay 💰 it and go on. I only hope they don’t find some other issue with this M 8 engine that requires to have to have The cases split are the cylinder to be removed to fix another problem. Because I actually seen a U tube video about one of the internal oil sprayers that are on some of the M8 engines that are not tightened properly from the factory. • @texasmotorcyclerideradventures
      @texasmotorcyclerideradventures 4 роки тому +4

      Theoretically it's pushing air when you are riding as the heat in the primary expands the air in the case. The transfer was occurring when the primary cooled causing a suction that pulled fluid through the shaft. I am not sure how Harley overlooked that and thought a sealed primary would work but they did and it didn't. That being said, this won't be an issue in rain even if it was "sucking" air since the movement of air is very low volume and slow to happen. This is not in a place that is typically barraged with water even in the rain and the curve of the tube will keep anything from flowing up into the primary. Even if some drops get in there they would vaporize before they caused any issues.

      any kind of "long distance" testing is done in a lab (Mesa, AZ). The motor isn't in a bike, and they run it at exactly the rpm they're testing. It's great for baseline. but doesn't factor in varying loads from elevation, weather, traffic, weight, incline/decline, etc. Unfortunately these problems are obviously real world use issues that they don't see.

      Man, that sucks. First thing I would do is make sure the vent was installed properly.
      Unfortunately, there could also be other factors contributing.

    • @DKCustomProducts

      About halfway thru the 2019 model year the factory started installing these vent as OEM. So the first step would be to see if you have the vent already. Look for the little candy can shaped tube, like seen at the 3:27 mark in this video.
      If you do not have the vent, then check your transmission fluid level. If it is not full, bring it up to the full mark. Then, periodically check it again. If you see the level dropping over a couple of thousand miles or less (and you have no leaks onto the frame or ground) then you will know it is transferring from the transmission to the primary.
      Mine did not transfer much at all the first 1000 miles, but by 4000 miles it was going from the full mark to below the low mark in 1000 miles.

      @@DKCustomProducts wow good to know. I just got mine over Labor Day weekend so hopefully it's one from later in the model year. I'll go look for that rubber vent tube on mine and verify. Additionally I just now hit the 1000 mile mark so if mine is one of those that doesnt have the vent then I'll be sure to start monitoring my oil levels to check for any transfer. Thanks again. Really like your channel!

      I have a 2017 Limited. I’m at 11K miles with zero transfer. An I lucky 🍀 or is this going to be an issue at some point ? I’m under extended Warranty right now to 7-1-2022. Should & will they install this kit if I’m not having any issues currently? I plan on keeping this bike a while so hence I’m asking ?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 роки тому

      Look at the 3:19 mark in the video...it is a close up of where the hole was drilled and the tube was put in. If you are on a small screen, it may help to look at the video on a larger screen, like a computer or TV or tablet.
      The how is that it gets pushed/pulled thru the hole. Prior to that 3:19 mark we talk about how and then show it being done.

    Pardon my ignorance but how you know the oil is transferring? What happens if you do not address this issue? I have a 2011 Softail Fatboy (Twin Cam 96B) is this also an issue on the TC engines? Thank you. P.S. I am big fan of DKCustom products. Have the air intakes in both of my Harleys.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  4 роки тому +1

      Check your transmission fluid level on the trans dipstick. If it is lower than when you filled it, and you have no leaks, then it is transferring to the primary. It is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that your '11 Twin Can is experiencing this. A very few TC have experienced this, and I believe they were all in the Touring family, from '14 and up.
      Thank you for your business, we appreciate it. Glad you're enjoying some great intakes!

      No issues with oil pump. I believe HD has that sorted. If you have a pre-'19 M8, then you may want to look at the latest oil pump they've been using in the 2nd half of '19 and on the '20's.

  • @mikegroft1569

      We don't know yet. It's been 7 days since we did it and 5 of those days have not gone above freezing temps for the high. So we have less than 200 miles on it so far. I'll report back at 500 miles, 1000 miles, and to be honest, until I have several thousand miles on it, I will not be 100% comfortable that it is "fixed".

      Disingenuous Indian Troll, by the looks of your channel. Street Glides don't cost 30K, 2020 Harley's already have the Primary Vent installed at the factory, and earlier years the Primary Vent can be installed at no cost or need for the owner to wrench on it. You're welcome. :)

    Is this a common problem with the M8.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  4 роки тому +1

      It seems to be exclusive to the Touring M8 models that have the hydraulic clutch. Softail M8's that have a cable operated clutch do not seem to have this issue. With the Touring Models it is not super common, not 50% of them have it. Hard numbers are hard to come by, but my guess is more than 10%, but less than 25%. The important thing is that Harley Corporate saw that it was frequent enough that this Primary Vent is now installed on all Touring M8's from the factory, starting in late 2018. So it is common enough that they are putting this "Fix" on ALL of them now.
