THANK YOU SO MUCH! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT WORKED. omg what a great feeling. You have no idea how much pain I endured; I'm never buying anything Apple related.
Very helpful! Thanks guys! The only hangup I had was typing the forward-slash (the exact IP address from mac) instead of back-slash in the windows search box to connect. Why is it that even though your IP address on mac starts with a forward-slash, you must use a back-slash to actually connect?
It's just windows syntax requires the \. It's the difference between systems but the smb protocol is supported by both! macOS is Unix based which uses /.
Thanks. It's worked for me. But I have a problem when I changed WIFI to other one and then changed back to previous WIFI again. Now it cannot open even I try to config and check IP address of MAC again.
Verify you can ping the machine you're accessing first, after changing back to the wifi. If you don't have connectivity, you will not be able to do this. I would check that first.
Thank you so much! Did you keep the transfer folder in your downloads so whatever went in didn't sync with iCloud? With that being said, can I share a folder on an external drive (thats always connected)? Also, is that a static IP? Basically I want that connection to always be available without having to go through these steps every time. Thanks again!
Hi Ronnie, I would like to transfer a 250 Gb file from a Mac (Ventura 13.2.1) to a Windows 11 computer. The wireless transfer stops at some point --presumably due to the large file size. Would it be possible to connect both computers with a Thunderbolt cable and do a wired transfer? Thank you!
hi there!! You lost me there when you typed the address of your mac from windows. Well, from apple, preference, on FILE SHARING it somehow says "Other users can access shared folders on this computer, and administrators all volumes, at smb://macbook-air.bbrouter." So, when you go to your windows to get to your mac address is that what i need to write ==>mackbook-air.bbrouter? Doesn't look right. :(( You seemed to write like an ip address. How do we get the ip address of which computer??? I'm so confused. Please help.
i can see the file from my mac on my pc ,but i cant copy even though i have file sharing on with reat and write option on those folders i want to share
do both mac and windos have to be online at the same time? if they have to be on and online this wont work on a mac with a partition with windows 10 since you have to turn off one to use the other right?
I'm not sure what you mean, both machines where on the same network connected to the same ethernet switches. If you mean to directly attach a cable to both machines. You would need a crossover cable. You will still need to configure both computers to be on the same subnet and verify IP connectivity.
If they have been transferred to the Windows computer and no longer exist on the macOS machine. Then they would be in the Windows Recycle Bin. If you're talking about deleting them from the shared folder while connected, well that would probably be one of two places on the machine hosting the shared folder. Either in the trash bin or permanently deleted.
You lost me at "Microsoft Remote Access" LOCATED ON YOUR MAC. Where did that come from? Is it an app available in the Mac App Store? I want to transfer a huge folder of image files on my MacBook Pro to my new PC workstation. I thought this video would show me how to do this?
The Microsoft Remote Access is an app from the app store. I used it because I wasn't physically located in where the server running that VM was running. After setting up file sharing on the Mac, you should be able to go to the Windows desktop and use your standard UNC path \\IP_Address_of_Mac\testshare to connect, you will have to authenticate to get access to the mac file share. I would verify that I can ping the Mac by pinging the IP address of the Mac, so that you have connectivity to that machine. If you have connectivity, then verify you used the UNC path format.
everything about this works up until the point where I enter the ip address of my mac into the Windows Run function. It pops up a window telling me to choose an app to run rather than a windows requesting login credentials to connect to my MacBook. Anyone have an idea of why this would happen?
I'm not sure...but I would check that when you type the IP address in the Windows search box. Please check and see if you're typing: \\192.168.X.X or //192.168.X.X. In the Windows world, the first one is for SMB file share. The second one is not.
Check for connectivity between the two devices. Did you use the UNC path format: \\192.168.10.100\sharedfoldername that matches with the shared folder on the macOS machine?
this is the best video , rest all shows how to access from Mac but this way is much simpler to access from windows
So great and so easy! I wish I would have learned this months ago; it would have saved me an enormous amount of time and fewer headaches!

QUESTION: is it possible to connect to Mac NOT with admin name and password, but with a guest name so that I don't risk to delete any Mac file?
Is this the best way to transfer an entire Hard drive from a MacBook Pro to a Windows Laptop? Thanks
I LOVE U THANK U
man is a pro
He is!
Does this require Internet connection? How fast is this? 2 devices have to connect to same wifi?
when I tried, my network credentials kept saying my login was incorrect even though I know for sure it is correct. Any tips for this?

Where to find mac credentials
Was having trouble until I turned my VPN off...in case anyone else is having an issue.
Hey! What is a VM?
Good 1
Thanks for watching!
do both mac and windos have to be online at the same time? if they have to be on and online this wont work on a mac with a partition with windows 10 since you have to turn off one to use the other right?
Yes, if the computer is off, you will not be able to access it... Not in a file sharing manner.
this works with decent speed, but is there a way for this process to carried out by ethernet cable from mac to pc?
I'm not sure what you mean, both machines where on the same network connected to the same ethernet switches. If you mean to directly attach a cable to both machines. You would need a crossover cable. You will still need to configure both computers to be on the same subnet and verify IP connectivity.
It works but the file transfer speed is so slow. Is there a way to speed this up?
Unfortunately there's not a way to make it faster, it just depends on your internet and network connection.
Hi! I wonder where are the deleted files goes from the shared folder between mac and windows?
If they have been transferred to the Windows computer and no longer exist on the macOS machine. Then they would be in the Windows Recycle Bin. @@ITProTv Okay Sir, thank you very much for this information!
I can't get past the credential prompt on my Windows 10 PC after enabling the File Sharing on my Macbook. It says credentials were rejected :(
Are you using the credentials you use to login to your macOS machine? This is what I did in the video.
@@ITProTv Yes, I used my Mac credentials. But it doesn't accept them and the Credentials prompt stays on the screen
Wait how did you connect your mac to you pc?
I allowed for access using SMB to the macOS.

thanks but the transfer is super slow 1 gb takes 1 hr+
It isn't clear how to get to the Windows sharing

my mac dont want to share :/
Not working, after entering IP address in windows, it shows folder is empty
Check for connectivity between the two devices. Did you use the UNC path format: \\192.168.10.100\sharedfoldername that matches with the shared folder on the macOS machine?
\\10.0.14.168 not working Help PLEASE
How did u do 2.57
Sorry, not sure exactly what you are asking. Could you provide a little more information?
didn't know there were geek monks too
Ive acquired god powers
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍
worked once, then not again :(
now it worked but instead of the address given under the File Sharing section, I used the .local address above under Computer Name...
What does it mean by credential? I’ve been trying to put passwords but it keeps resetting.
You’re a lifesaver
Glad we can help!
