jakeykj123 John and Clarence Anglin escaped, there is a documentary on it, the brothers were able to connect a raft to the boat that transferred people on and off the island. A picture was discovered of both of them in Brazil 10 years after the escape

I've always been so fascinated with this place. Last time I was there was in 6th grade in the mid-80s. I imagine the tours have changed quite a bit since then. I might be able to take my kids in a couple months. Has anyone been on the night tour? That one sounds like it would be pretty spooky and awesome.

My grandfather was actually a prisoner in Alcatraz he did 10 year in there until 1963 and was later relocated and had my mom 1978

There were at least a dozen escape attempts from Alcatraz. Bank robbers Darl Parker and Paul Scott tried to swim to freedom,. Parker stopped at "Little Alcatraz and could go no further. He was recaptured. Scott swam for the skyline and made it to a point under the Golden Gate Bridge. He fell asleep and when he woke up he was surrounded by police. This was in 1962. It was possible to reach the mainland by swimming.

I built the props that are in the MGM cells today [those pictured with the dummy]. My boss made the dummy heads, and got the hair from his wife's hairdressing business. He was shown the actual escape artifacts at the FBI warehouse and photographed them from which I created the props. Besides the urban legend of just 'spoons' the cons made an electric drill from a vacuum cleaner motor. Which I recreated for our film shoot, America's Most Wanted version of the escape, made possible by Acme scenery co.
Currents are strong in the bay. The current, when I visited, seemed to go out to sea, not towards land. If someone met them in a boat, they made it. If they didn't have a plan they probably didn't make it. In the back of my mind I have always hoped they made it.

Alcatraz back in its day looked like a fine prison for those convicts.

The is a few things they didn't mention
#1 it is believed that the inmates that escaped didnt use the raft to go all the way and stopped half way on got in a boat. There was reports that a police officer saw I boat in between land and Alcatraz Island
#2 there were 4 men who came up with the plan but only 3 escaped because the other one had a bar in his whole... He was the guy who came up with the plan and built the raft -_-

Yes surrounded by that cold water coming in & out of the bay there along with sharks too. Many windsurfers I see from the freeway love windsurfing along the waves & the tide especially in the sunset time. Or a lot just canoe around the waters there.

I did not mention this (drones, security of the projects,etc) ... but it's something so obvious that i prefer to think about it in detail when will be time to ... there are several aspects that will be taken in consideration from my side and i give few examples in this commentaries (...)

My opinion is simply this, I don't know about any escapees, but Frank Morris DID make it. I'm 100% certain.

I wonder if when they were building the concrete walls in the cells that not realizing the salt water behind the walls where that empty corridor room was where the salt water was at making it easier to carve your way out of the wall. I liked escape from alcatraz 1979 with Clint Eastwood real good movie! Another goodie is shawshank redemption.

I got news for you mister tower man .., The three men that escaped made a raft. They found the raft at Angels island. They found footsteps leading away from the raft. From there a car was stolen. What does that tell you. They didn't just get in the water and that was it. That's why they constructed a raft that made it to Angels island. Than from Angels island you could get anywhere from there.It's funny to hear these Old-Timers who work there they still have a certain pride about such an ugly place like Alcatraz. Those three men made it and partied it down for the rest of their life... and they deserve it!!!
