ℹ️ About the Episode: We went back and forth on whether taking the ferry across Lake Michigan was worth it. We've taken many ferries, and they usually save us quite a bit of time and fuel. In this case, the ferry did one better-it saved us from driving through Chicago. (If you've ever towed or driven an RV through Chicago, you know.) In this episode, we make our way to Sister Bay, Wisconsin, located in Door County. If you haven't visited Door County yet, it's worth considering as a summer destination. It's located on a peninsula on Lake Michigan's west side, north of Green Bay, and the water views are spectacular. A great time to visit is near Air Venture, which is one of the largest air shows in the country. Door County can also be paired with Michigan's Upper Peninsula (referred to as the UP "you pee") and Mackinac Island. There is lots to do in Door County. We enjoy exploring the farmers' markets, riding bikes, watching sunsets, and visiting Peninsula State Park. This time, we stayed at Dovetail Acres Campground, but there are many private and state park campgrounds to choose from.

Avoiding Chicagoland traffic makes that ferry well worth it. Wisconsin is fabulous
$600 one way for my RV and truck. I’ll pass.
@@True-crime-junkie have u ever done that?
@@danielroe-mp4fw I haven’t. But I did consider it and after I got a detailed quote for my truck and camper i felt it wasn’t worth it. They have a website you can go on to purchase tickets and you put in all your information for vehicle and trailer along with how many passengers. I did this just 2 weeks ago.
We live in WI and have family in MI. We always buck up drive through Chicago. 😂😂 Taking the ferry is an occasional treat. It’s ok if you’re only paying for passengers without a car.
Marc and Trish, very cool episode! I wish I could have given you a few pointers and talked you into slowing it down. As a lifelong denizen of Wisconsin, a veteran of the SS Badger, and a major fan of Door County, I love what you covered in this video, but there is so much more! Most Wisconsinites would drop everything to tell a visitor what not to miss, and when it comes to crossing Lake Michigan on a ferry, landing in Manitowoc, and visiting Door County, especially Península State Park, there are so many interesting suggestions to make!!! Anyway, you could spend an entire season of your show here and never run out of content. Nonetheless, your content was cabr reason to say bloocrswl nty amazing! Can’t wait to see his this summer season
Not sure where that last sentence came from. Sorry!!! Let’s just say I love the show no matter what!!!
@@MikeCurtis1958Haha I was wondering what that was about! 😅
@@MikeCurtis1958 There's a wonderful feature called "edit"
@@MikeCurtis1958what are the ideas? I come to door county every year and would love more to do.
Agreed, they missed so much of Door County. I suppose there are other UA-cam videos though.
Thank you two for a great video! It looked like a really good place, and being with your friends was fun to watch. The ferry was awesome, I’m happy Charlie survived ❤
If you get back to Door County again, you need to go to Wilson's Ice Cream in Ephraim. Incredible ice cream.
The Badger and Euchre are Great Lakes and Michigan icons.
So happy to see you traveling again! Love the jersey in the window!
Great video. Love the jersey in the window prank, sweet Charlie’s “trauma”, and pickle ball Trish. 😂Thanks for sharing!
Going say I love travel videos but Mods and trucks are a welcome change and we all need are equipment running in tip top shape to do this RVing thing right
Hard to pick a favorite thing in Door County, but The Northern Sky Theater is definitely at the top of our list! We saw the same play :)
welcome to Wisconsin. Door County is my playground. It's a State treasure for sure!
We are just back from a 18 day loop of Lake Michigan - and saw the Fisherman's Daughters on their opening night - did you enjoy it? Other thought is to head through the Northwoods area of WI (HIGHLY recommend Peaceful Pines RV Resort at Eagle River)...
We live in the Cleveland area, and when we go to Door County each summer we go up through the UP of Michigan. It’s a wonderful way to get there. It’s definitely longer than an hour, but we really enjoy the drive and camping.
I agree with Meredith’s mother! Thank heavens you are back to traveling.
Think that guy who backed the RVs onto the ferry could give my husband some RV backing up lessons?
Marc & Trish - Glad to see you had a chance to enjoy some Pickleball. Full disclosure, I have been an ambassador for Mark Pickleball for a few months now (Great name, right, Marc?). Their R&D guy (Justin) is someone, I am sure, Marc would enjoy taking a trip down pickleball paddle nerd-ville with. I have had some great discussions with Justin on materials and manufacturing processes and what makes a paddle consistent in play. If you decide to purchase some paddles, please give Mark Pickleball some consideration (great value) and let them know Tim FL sent you (10% off with AMB-MCLELLAN). Enjoy the Journey! Tim & Deb
That F-450 Super Duty scenery at the beginning was truly beautiful. Well worth the trip.
Yeah, finally a fun video for some that don’t enjoy the mods. Thanks so much.
Good Video! My wife is happy your moving and tech updates are done 😂 😂😂
I agree........."no more of those Technical Videos". lolol
Funny - I was thinking the same thing but was chicken to comment on it. LOL! P.S. My husband likes them, tho. 😂
@@jojoinrancho320 I mentioned the same thing this past winter and they cut me off at the knees saying it was Feb, kids in school, etc. lol I got brave to make my second comment the other day. Lets see if they cut me off at the knees again.. So much for comments. lol :-)
They are very important to safe and better travels. Alot of us appreciate them.
Happy Sunday Everyone !!! May y'all have a blessed week !!!!!!
Best thing I ever did… take the ferry. Drove through Chicago once😳😳😳never again. The sail was so beautiful and saved frustration.
You get used to it. 😂 It’s not bad without a RV.
8:00 Seeing Charlie running in circles made me so happy! I bet he was ready to get out of the camper after being cooped up for four hours!
I'm from Chicago and don't blame you for avoiding the traffic. But did you consider just going through the UP? We have a place in Northern MI and may be more miles but a more pleasant trip and not bad from door county at all
Not sure if you already know this or not but if you need to go thru a big city with the trailer go thru on a Sunday morning before 10am. We do that going thru Atlanta on our way to Florida for the winter. We live in the Detroit area.
That's a great idea.
Hi friends ! Would you be kind enough to tell me where you got the two small lamps I see in the beginning (1:43) of your video. I looked in your Amazon store but don’t see them. Thanks !
Yes, Fat Boys dimmable, USB C charging and great for moving outdoor amzn.to/3L9QA26
@@KeepYourDaydream thank you ! Are they worth the money ?
OMG. I need your recipe for that salad. Looks soooooo delish
So glad Charlie made it! Yay to this content and not mechanical stuff!
Hi Mark and Trish! Enjoyed Door County and the technical videos. Suggest posting on Technical Tuesdays as you see fit. Next time, stop at Wilson’s Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor in Ephraim, WI. Stay awesome! K.
We are camping in Door County over Labor Day Weekend. This is our 13th season and we stay in Peninsula State Park, Tennison Bay, Fish Creek. This place is amazing. So much to do and see with Great shopping.
There are so many beautiful and fun places to see in this gorgeous country of ours! ❤❤
As someone who grew up in Manitowoc and stayed at Dovetail RV park in Door County just last summer, this video was a trip down memory lane.
The ferry ride was awesome! Well worth the money.. No wonder my friend wanted to move back to Wisconsin..Its beautiful there. Great video
You 2 are living life to the fullest! Thank you for showing us how its done!
We absolutely loved Door County! We spent a little time there in July of '22 prior to attending Airventure at Oshkosh for the first time. We're RVers from the great state of Texas so we were really enjoying the mild temperatures in July compared to what we're used to. We picked cherries at an orchard and did a fishing charter out of Sturgeon Bay. Went to a Fish boil too! Safe travels y'all!
'as ye eer dun da Marine Atlantic bout to NewfaLend, der b'ye? (Has you ever done the Marine Atlantic ferry to Newfoundland, there guy?
Getting around and through Chicago is all a matter of the time of day/night that you do it, and never at morning and evening rush hour. 😁 Thanks for showing the state park. It's been decades since I camped there.
You guys do such a great job filming your RVing adventures! Keep up the great work! Safe travels
I just ran from Mass to MN via Canada. Then back through WI, OH etc to see a few things. Next time, I'll save the few hundred miles and go via Canada both ways.
I love Door County! We were there last August. Perfect weather, beautiful scenery, good restaurants and pubs. Love it!!
I smile the whole time watching you guys, I liked the pickle ball and the euchre. My wife is from ludington, and my outlaws still live there. Amazing video as always.
Why the heck IS the ferry ride so terrible expensive, compared to western ferry rides? NOT some thing we’d be willing to pay!
For those of us in Ludington - whenever we hear the horn blast - whether coming or going - we all yell - THE BADGER!!!!
We thought the Badger experience was the best! The people who back the vehicles up know what they are doing, for sure!! We did a video on the trip too. Glad Charlie survived. Flamingo sighting 😍
Looks like you were well stocked Trish. 😁Oh my, what big asparagus! I love smoked salmon. We have not learned how to play pickle ball yet, it is a goal of ours though. -Michelle
We LOVE Ludington. Love the Badger!
We’ve taken the ferry ⛴️ aross Lake Michigan, as well as some fun, entertaining sunset cruises, but we haven’t put our Airstream on there yet. The price is a little hefty for our budget, but it’s wonderful if you can help fund a historical gem like the Badger. ❤️
Finally a TRAVEL video. 🎉
Do you guys like kohlrabi? I made a great salad with raw kohlrabi honey/vinegar with other veggies. Great.
We were just at Pennisula State Park. Tennison Bay has quite a few electric sites.
Pickle ball is destroying America……🤣😂😜
More than $600 for my RV and truck to go across…1 way. No thanks. Gas is much cheaper
That guy Dave in the Super Duty with the Solitude is a great guy, one of the best people I know! Out there living the dream!
Door County is our favorite! We've lived in Wisconsin all our lives. Have you checked out any of the cruises or light houses?
As a Ludington native, it's always fun to see our town and the Badger through the eyes of visitors. Loved the shots from the deck looking down at the dock and through the harbor as you passed the lighthouse. It's a vantage point most of us locals don't see. Enjoy your trip!
Very Nice. Great scenery. Personally, I wouldn't paint to match. I like the look. Three oceans in one year, who can say that? Not many!
Charlie needs a summer to remember for dogs! Crossing the ferry is on that list!
What was the name of the kayak you used. That was exactly what i am looking for!
I really can't wait 🫷 until me and my family start RVing so we can meet you and your family
Love Sunday nights!
Not sure why you didn't drive over the top thru the UP, shorter and no traffic.
Been missing this style of travel video. This is going to be a great season!
Thanks for the brief explanation of Pickleball!
So, the ferry-measuring people got your RV at 31 feet?
Looks like that was the base number for their next tier for the $100 price increase.
I was hoping you would again ask them, "When was the last time you had that thing calibrated??" (referring to the measuring-wheel)... Like you did a few years back to those measuring folk! 😆
Lol. I should have said that!
@13:03 GREAT time lapse, Marc!!!
Glad you enjoyed Door County! You should have gone to Lambeau Field...it's amazing! Grew up in WI...great place by a great lake!
Go to Cedar Key Florida, 2nd oldest town in Florida
OK Marc, keep that sunscreen on all the time!
❤ eeek this ferry is on my bucket list!
How comfortable is that Bote. Just it off good back support? Have not found any inflatables that have a good raised seat and back rest.
I wouldn't say it provides back support, but I found it very comfortable in that I could sit as if I was in a chair. No leaning back like a lounger. I typically don't really like floatations. This one was great. I had to mention. No sponsored.
Next time you're in Grand Haven stop by! 🥰
I loved this video! I currently live in Wisconsin but just moved from Whidbey Island, WA, and grew up in Skagway, Alaska! I think I saw all three of those ferry systems in this video! 😊
Absolutely enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing the ferry experience. From Ohio, we headed West to Starved Rock Campground North Utica, IL and then North, We wanted to avoid Chicago as well. We have had several family reunions in Door County, the last one was a year ago. We stayed at Dovetail Acres this last trip too. We also met up with friends who were camping at Peninsula State Park and spent the day with them exploring the Park and surrounding area. So much to do there, Love the small fishing villages, looking forward to heading back when we can. Chances are if you searched for Dovetail Acres, you might have seen our video. Safe Travels & Happy Camping! Tony & Tina
Defentivement, my bucket next visit to usa hopefuly next year !!merci for another great movie !!! 🤩 love to Charly ...and great choice of musique ...
We live in south metro Atlanta. We store our camper in North Georgia since camp so much up there (about 2.5 hours north from where we live). If we travel south of the our home, then we bring it out of storage and prep it at home. We drive through ATL several times a year. We just get in the 2nd lane from the right on I-75 and just stay there. STAY OFF OF I-285 unless you like potholes and even more 18 wheelers right beside your rig. It's really not bad. And when your in bumper to bumper traffic... we just keep in our lane and deal with it. Pro-tip. Going North on I-75 at the I-285 junction, move over as far as you can to the left to get AWAY from the on ramp at spaghetti junction. Cars always trying to squeeze in front of the 18 wheelers. Crazy ATL drivers... got to love them (not). Robert Burton
Really LOVE your choice of background music in this video! We've been to Door County several times and it's always a fun time. Next time, have breakfast at Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant in Sister Bay. Very iconic place, and fun to watch the goats on their roof! Did you go to a fish boil? That is a MUST SEE! Both Pelletier's and White Gull Inn do a nice job. Fun memories : )
It looks like you caught a picture of our ship the Viking Octantis (or sister ship Viking Polaris) at 10:13. We were there on MAY 29, 2024 Door Peninsula (Algoma), Wisconsin. Had a great trip from Toronto to Duluth MN.
Great video! Too bad you didn't visit Cave Point in Door county while you were there. It is located just south of Baileys harbor on the Lake Michigan side. Awesome park with a walking path that follows the shoreline just above numerous caves eroded into by Lake Michigan wave action.
Just missed you guys in Door County. Just watched a sunset last night in Sister Bay. Anyways, your friend explained Pickleball pretty well. I tell people the hardest part of the game is the scoring :) - Safe travels
In theory you could have gone up and around to Door County through Mackinac ... still a solid 8 hours or so, but would have avoided Chicago traffic. A one-hour ferry sounds lovely though, but that price tag was sticker shock!
Grateful for a peak at taking the Badger. It's something we are planning on relatively soon. We will be taking our truck camper, so a little less expensive I think. 💰💰🤞
We just did Bar Harbour to yarmaoth Via ferry with our Airstream..... NOT CHEAP. lol. Totally worth it.
Happy Sunday everyone
🏆
why not go thru the UP of michigan
you are right about a Ferry being fun with your RV. We have done a bunch, including Cape May, and Ocracoke, PEI to Nova Scotia and also took old trailer up the inside passage in BC from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert on the Queen of the North back in 1998. That ferry ultimately sank in 2006. Upcoming we hope to take the ferry to Newfoundland, and also from PEI to Les Iles de la Madeleine.... no go around route for these last two :) Continued safe travels.
I was worried about backing into a ferry. We took a fun ferry - very short but fun - to Mayport when we were visiting Timucuan Ecological and National Preserve in Florida.
2 weeks and counting to our summer trip around Lake Huron. Stops in Chutes PP, Pancake Bay PP, Picture Rock NP, Strait SP, Wilderness SP, Orchard Beach SP, Holland SP, Pinery PP and finally with some friends new Owen Sound.
Any suggestions for must sees?
Next July 8th, our Trailer goes into the shop for new tires (They have 11 summers on them - And yes I know that WAY too old).
We retire officially at Midnight tonight and are looking forward to many trips over the next few years.
Took a 7 hour ferry to Newfoundland last September. We loved Newfoundland! I want to go back in May for the icebergs.
About 30 years ago, our honeymoon trip was leave our home in the Twin Cities, drive to Duluth, then to Grand Marais, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste Marie, then to Green Bay where we spent some time in Door County and Washington Island...was a bit of driving but a very memorable trip. I would like to try it again.
going on the Haida Gwaii ferry in BC RV owners have to back down on their own. Most RV owners are pretty good at bcking down, but always a good show to watch folks who aren't familiar with backing down. :)
My husband says he’s waiting for your LevelMate Pro set up video! We have ours but he’s been waiting for your tutorial! 😉
I remember as a kid Mom took us to see trains loaded on the SS Badger in Milwaukee
I noticed the RR tracks still in the decking.
I didn't get a link to this one in my Sunday mail as usual so I resubscribed. Strange.
Thanks for fixing that!
Been across on the Badger many times, last year once first time with a camper, second time this year. If I don’t go on the Badger I go through the UP. Hate driving around Chicago, wouldn’t do it pulling a camper.
Happy Sunday funday KYD Family!! Wishing you and your family and fun filled 4th Independence week!!
You guys didn't happen to have been at Pete's Lake would you ? I swore I saw your rig and said..nah..can't be them..then we got home and I saw you were in Michigan
Fun stuff watching * Pickleball & Charley 🦮 hovering on your bed during * Lake Michigan water motoring crossover from Ludington 👏 Cooler temps for you guys in North hemisphere while I swelter 😅 in 'Real feel' 106° South hemisphere at this current time. Enjoying your friendly comraderie with your friends RV relax mode, plus 🚣😉
i could never be more nervous than watching someone drive away with my truck, my airstream, and my dog!
Agreed.
My thoughts exactly
You don't have to go thru Chicago to go from Western Michigan to Wisconsin. You could have drove north to UP and around north side of Lake Michigan.
We took the badger “overnight” on our first cross country RV trip. There were only about 50 passengers on that crossing so my kids won every round of bingo while my husband slept.
When the badger staff drove our RV onto the ferry, my two year old was so sad that “the man took away my RV trip”. But then when we got to WI she was able to stand on the deck of the ferry and watch it be driven off. She was jumping for joy at 3 AM that “the man brought back my RV trip!!”
It was also fascinating to watch the big Cat construction equipment go on/off the ferry.
We’ve done several cross-country trips and for some reason this still remains one of our family’s most talked about experiences.
I understand not wanting to go through Chicago, but why not go the northern route through Mackinaw City? It's not much longer than the Chicago route. $500 is pretty steep, though the ferry ride does look fun.
My wife and I just got back from Door County yesterday. We did do a boat, but we choose the Lake Express from Milwaukee. It was awesome!
Watching this video Christine laughed because I apparently don’t make good decisions when we are canoeing. 🤪🤪
