Not all dash cams can show videos at the scene. He may have had to remove the memory card and upload it to his computer. The cop didn't witness it.

If you look closely at the pavement, it's clear that most people driving in the cammer's direction turn right at that intersection, and likely almost none of them use their turn signal when doing so. That lady was obviously expecting the cammer to turn right. I've seen other intersections where this sort of expectation happens, and it's a good example of why you should never assume what other drivers are going to do.

I normally give way to large trucks but then again he shouldn't have been on that residential street. Common sense applies to the truck driver. Decency would have stopped at the stop sign. It’s possible the heavy wrecker was heading home after a long 14 hour plus shift, or headed to help a semi tractor trailer who called for help after blindly following their gps.

I went to the cammer's actual page. Here's what they said to another comment: "It took a Month and a half for the Police to download the video footage. On the evening of the accident both the other driver and I said the light was green. Officer looked at my camera but could only see the events after, basically the firetrucks showing up. He took the camera as evidence so it could be checked by the IT dept."

3:10 - Now usually speed has no factor in collisions like that, but on that section of the Hamburg Turnpike the speed limit is a posted 40. You were going anywhere from 60-65 in that zone given the fact that you traveled 280ft in just 3 seconds. You also did it on a section of the roadway where you're coming up over a blind hill. Not smart on your part at all. The collision would've been easily avoided if you were anywhere near the speed limit; let alone if you hit the brakes instead of going into oncoming lanes of traffic.
Some people are on the edge all the time and all it takes is one little thing to set them off and then they lose their minds. Before you engage in road rage towards another driver you should remember that.

I agree. It does not matter that the tow truck operator made a "California stop". He still would have been stopped before the cammer, and the cammer would still have had to back up to let the truck make the corner.

#13 That's where situational awareness comes in. Cammer doesn't have any. It doesn't matter that he rolled the stop sign. It takes a lot to get a truck that big moving. Wasn't like he cut someone off, or almost caused an accident. When the cammer saw the truck turning, that's when you slow down, and give them the space they need to complete the turn. It's called common courtesy.

10. The video can be submitted to the police later and they absolutely can issue a citation if they want to. That said, traffic citations, or lack thereof, are a separate issue from liability. That is determined by the insurance companies, not the police. They can use any citation issued as part of their justification but with this video it wouldn't matter.

@@anonomas6126 The easiest explanation is that undercover refers to a person. Unmarked refers to the vehicle. Furthermore, unmarked vehicles are still identifiable. The rims, bumpers, plates, and lights that call out a vehicle as being law enforcement are still visible. Undercover officers have no outward appearance of being law enforcement. If a vehicle were truly "undercover," there would be no identifiable characteristics to the public.

I thought of something today, regarding brake checks for “no reason”. There might not be a good reason, but never no reason. I thought of that while watching people in the left lane gradually slowing down because they are on their phone. I wonder if they are getting brake checked for being on the phone and oblivious to the world around them. I see oblivious people all the time, then they are upset because there’s no way they could have missed something. I’d like to see the previous minute of those videos.

How do you know how fast he's going?

@@beerdedwanderer The building at 601 Hamburg Turnpike where the truck pulled out from is pretty easily recognized in street view. The blue commercial real estate sign at the beginning of the clip is also easily recognized. The cammer traveled 660 feet from the start of the clip to where the truck was. The video looks like it was real time and it took 7-8 seconds. So the cammer was going between 56 and 64. I couldn't find a posted speed limit anywhere near there but OpenStreetMaps indicates the limit is 45mph.
@@beerdedwanderer A dashed line is 10 feet long. The gap between each line is 30 feet long. There are 30 frames for each second of video.
The cammer was consistently covering 40 feet every 12 frames of video until the collision, which comes to four tenths of a second every 40 feet, or 100 feet every second. 100 feet a second is equal to 68.18 miles an hour.
Two, the speed limit was for Highway 287 which is the main multilane Highway that goes through Wayne NJ. Since I could not find the actual speed limit for the backroad the cammer was driving, I am able to show that the speed he was driving was over the limit for the even open Highway in that area, and I would guess he was at least 18 mph over the speed limit for the road he was on.
Also, when you can see the other vehicle is pulling out, the cammer was over 300 feet away, and in all that distance he never slows down. (How do I know it is over 300 feet? Dashlines)
@@Wailwulf Someone else said they know exactly where that happened, and he said it is a 45 MPH limit. Seeing a few cross streets, I think 65 mph would be kinda high, even for NJ. But I don't go into NJ if I can help it, so it might be different around these parts.

Even the cammer, "I was going over the 65 limit" is completely irrelevant. The laws are clear in almost every state, leftmost lane is for passing. That's it. There's no "IF/THEN" statement attached with it. Keep right except to pass. Slower traffic keep right. If you're getting passed on the right, guess what? You ARE the slower traffic.

4:15 - You're camping in the left lane and left a sizeable gap for a car to fit into. Stupid is being upset that a car fit into the gap you left. Move over if you can't handle the fast lane.
Um, its technically NOT a fast lane. A "fast lane" implies that it has its own seperate, higher speed limit than the right lane, but it really doesnt. Its a passing lane, yes. However, unless signs are posted "keep right except to pass", ANYONE can ride in that lane at the posted speed limit, even if that speed limit is 55 mph.
Even in the “fast” (no such thing ) “passing lane” you can get a ticket for speed/tailgating. When traveling over 65 mph you are to leave a full 3 second gap (about three full car lengths, more if your hauling or really heavy) between you and the car in front of you.
That lane entitles you to nothing. You’re not exempt from these laws. I myself pass and get over safely asap even if I know I’m coming up on another vehicle, to allow those behind me that wish to pass at higher speeds to go first. I will than wait even if I have to slow down to maintain a safe space behind the car I want to pass. Until I can get into the pass lane.
If you choose to park yourself in the left hand lane and continually stay there on an interstate, you should not be surprised when that angers people.
It’s not illegal to camp in the left lane where I live as long as you are doing the minimum of the speed limit (which makes it not really a limit) and a lot of unmarked police vehicles do exactly the speed limit in the left lane when they are doing aggressive driving emphasis patrols.

@@ribo451 Many rude behaviors are not illegal. Signs that say, "Slower Traffic Keep Right" and "Keep Right Except To Pass" try to reinforce good lane discipline. Helping educate people about it reduces a primary root cause of "road rage." Willfully log-jamming the highway out of stubbornness or selfishness because it may or may not be legal is like saying, "Where I live, it's not illegal to sing loudly in a movie theater, and that's what I like to do."
Someday people will realize that an unmarked police car is just that. Under cover is something else entirely. 🤦♀

Like you, I instantly saw the situation and would have slowed down or even stopped short. I'm thinking the tow truck saw the cammer coming and wanted to make his turn (truck's turning radius needed two lanes) and get out of the cammer's way faster. Had he stopped, he would have had the right-of-way to go before the cammer but have no room to turn causing blocked traffic. Cammer is a me-first-always guy.

Especially ones that are passing another vehicle.

#13 he rolled through the stop sign but you could of been more considerate and slowed down faster and let the huge tow truck pass. It would of cost you literally 10 seconds.

Why do so many people insist on immediately turning into the farthest lane possible? Turn into the innermost lane and then merge accordingly. It takes literally no extra time to do so and it's safer for everyone involved including yourself.
It reduces the g forces on the turn.
