Still remember being eight years old and watching this video on the old UA-cam and vividly remember the music while watching this video many years ago on the old UA-cam many years ago and building the A340 out of lego blocks, trying to make the fuselage as long as possible.

The A340 was designed before ETOPS.

That’s right, the A343 design was a good idea back when twin engine policies were more strict and the A346 was build to break the 747 monopoly and offer a younger alternative to the aging queen-400. With new ETOPS rules and long range market orienting towards « more flights, less seats » they decided to focus on the a350/330/320.

Not many airlines have bought the -8 and i doubt they will 4 engined aircrafts are becoming obsolete nowdays its the a330 neo 777x 787 and a350 that are the soldiers for the manufacturers
