⚠I NEED YOUR INPUT⚠ Should I make a video like this again? Hopefully it's apparent, but this video took a LOT of time and effort, double what I'd normally put into a video. And I absolutely loved making it. But, it's tough to know if I should make one like this again. If you think I should, let me know by commenting, and either liking or disliking the video so I can act accordingly. Thank you 😁
Thanks for the Reminder! It is the time to focus on other stuff and when I can find a composition in places I have been many times before I really feel that I have accomplished something! It really pushes the backspace key and restarts the day with a clean screen!
I took one of my favourite photos at that bench at 3 minutes into your video. The love of my life was sat on it looking down the reservoir below the Craig Goch dam. Underneath her and the bench was our dog, evie, laying down. I took the photo from behind to get them and the view in frame. I recently put the photo in the centre of a photo book as a double spread. Our dog has since passed away. All of my favourite photos of her are in the book which I'm giving my partner as a Xmas present. I'm so glad I have so many photos to remember her by and our adventures together. Our best experiences and memories have been when we went out and explored places. And of course taking the photos to keep the memories of our good times together.
Hi Josh. Thanks again for a really good video. I think you're right, and so is all the research. Spending time outdoors is essential. I've often said that if it were possible I'd LIVE outdoors! I literally cannot be indoors for long before I start to feel cooped up, hemmed in! It would literally drive me insane to be indoors all the time. Unfortunately because I spend my time outdoors in my electric wheelchair, or on my mobility scooter, I can't really get out when it's wet! It's just not practical. But as soon as the weather dries up a bit then I'm out again!
Indeed one of your best videos . i've been following you since you started, watched every video since, and i saw the big jumps. you tell a stroy in your videos now , appealing story not just a set of information which can be found anywhere. your videos became informative, high quality and the most important, enjoyable . continue the amazing work body !
As human beings I think we fall into various camps. I love being in nature - still camping out in my 70s and never minding getting soaked or muddy etc. Yet I know people who would have a nervous breakdown doing what I do, and have to cover their heads when it is raining just running from their front doors to the car as though it was raining acid! I love to see young families out and about when I am hiking, as I know that if you start them young they will probably carry on loving the outdoors all their lives. It wasn’t like that for me, but being in the Forces for a short time really introduced me to the outdoor life and I have never looked back!
10/10 video, photography, and message. We all needed this. I love photography because it also pushes me outdoors more and I need that to escape the mundane job.
Great topic, it’s one of the best tonics for poor mental health, that and not being socially isolated rather strangely, total opposites for me because I like being alone outside so I can take it all in without distractions, either way both have amazing impact on mental health.
It resonated with me when you mentioned that photography gives you excuses to go out. I always feel a bit lazy to venture out if I don't have something specific to do. In the past, I dragged my feet and complained during a hike. Today, I'm the one initiating it, and I almost run between shots to have as many opportunities as possible! However, I live in a big city without much nature, and as a woman, I'm a bit afraid to go alone to take pictures in isolated areas...
Nice one Josh! These type of videos are great! Even though it’s something most of us already know or relate to, sometimes we need a kick up the arse to get out , lack motivation or in my case find my photography has gone a bit ‘stagnant’. These video really help and make me want to go out simply for a walk with my camera even if I’m not coming back with any great shots, simply getting out will do . 📷👍
I hear ya man, even long before photography I could never stay inside for long periods. I go stir crazy. Being outside is the best thing for mind, body and soul..
The video is totally worth it, in my opinion, because it is not just about tips&tricks about photography, but about a story, an issue that is important for you. That makes all the video, in my opinion, even more interesting. As a crazy hiker myself and living in a place practically equal in terms of Weather to Uk (Basque Country), I find nature not just beautiful.. but the only place I can be alone with myself and my thoughts. Everything else is distraction, artificial stimulation, etc.. it’s essential for adequate mental and physical health. Ps: The pictures are great, but I am amazed with the video quality, especially if it comes from the s5 and it’s AF and the 20-60 kit lens. Great quality channel
Hi Joshua I love this video you're speaking my language. This is one i'll watch again and again. So much emphasis on mental health these days and rightly so😅. To spend time out in nature is therapeutic - its mindfulness - getting away from it all and breathing in fresh air refreshing and renewing body and soul in an holistic way and whilst you can't bring the countryside home with you you can capture a glimpse of it and save it for a rainy day. We'll done I'll certainly love to watch similar videos should you choose to produce them. You are a very wise and gifted presenter. Keep up the good work.
You were right to make this video Joshua, but I feel that those of us that have watched it, already know the benefits. Therefore the people who would benefit from the advice, may never get to view it, which is regrettable. Fabulous shots of the autumn colours reflected in the lake.
Even though we may already know all of this, it's good to be reminded, and more importantly - inspired to go out. Especially when it's cold! Lovely piece of story telling Joshua.
Please continue making these great videos! As a beginner to photography your videos really helped me not to get too overwhelmed. Chasing the latest gear, a better (and much more expensive) lens, convoncing yourself that you can't make good photos with the stuff you have....It's easy to fall into these traps, especially for beginners. So thank you very much for your "down to earth"-approch, your budget-friendly and much more realistic content for hobby photographers. It really helped me to stay down to earth aswell and inspired me a lot. I'm really looking forward to accompany your photography and video journey and wish you all the best for 2024! Greetings from Germany.
Hi Josh, I have just found your channel and I am currently binge watching most of your content. I love that fact that you shoot with a more budget camera that you love, and not the latest (expensive) thing. Most cameras made in the last 15 years should be plenty for most people but of course, having the latest gear is also OK. I still shoot with a DSLR (Canon EOS 6D mk 2) and love it. I have no need to go mirrorless for the latest experience. Have you ever thought of trying your hand with film? maybe get an old EOS film camera then you can pick up a couple of EF lenses which can also be used on your 250D? I shoot film sometimes and have an EOS 3 so can share my lenses with both the film and digital body. Your attitude is fantastic and I have subscribed to your channel and hope your channel continues to grow! Keep up the good work.
Excellent video Josh! I manage an online photography group associated with AARP and I try desperately to get older Americans, such as myself, to become engaged in photography as part of staying as mentally, physically and emotionally well as is possible. The creative aspects of photography do far more for mental acuity than playing games or doing puzzles on an iPad. But, as the study you cited demonstrates, being outside has additional benefits that can allow everyone, but especially those of us who are older, to have a better quality of life. I think that you, and Kim Grant, are doing fantastic work in focusing on the most important aspects of photography - well being. Not all of us can travel to stunning locations and create epic images, but we all can enjoy the beauty and wonder of Nature. Thanks again for producing this video.
A question back for you in return; why did you make this video? For me/us? Do you want to get fame/money/recognition/...? My idea is that no matter what you do, if your joy and passion is in it, people will connect. Don't doubt yourself. These last decades, I feel that western society has become more and more complex; internet social media, technological developments, a lot of cognitive knowledge and specialization. Far from our origins and roots. We are not part of nature, we actually forgot we ARE nature. Thank you for reminding me. ❤
@@TheJoshuaPeg I understand. But just like you get inspiration from other people's video's I get that from yours. It is a multiplying ripple effect. Since about 6 years, I suddenly got children, twins. From being a world traveler/photographer to this, took me a while to adapt. I first thought it was a one way street to giving/caring. But now it feels more that, while parenting, using my talents, I see the result in these other individuals and I can also develop myself further. Yes, an income to buy food and stuff is also important... 🙂 Anyway, it is an important topic you touched in this video of yours and I am very grateful for that!
1700 years ago St. Augustine was looking for truth. He thought it might be in the beauty of nature but nature said, No we are not it, because we are here today and gone tomorrow. Rather look to the one who made us, the never changing eternal God. And St. Augustine was later to find what he was looking for. Nature worship is often the first step to God and a good first step as well. St Augustine also realized that our hearts are restless until they rest in God the creator

Lots of content from photographers out there and this kind of video is not the usual but very helpful! Do others on this kind of topic!
Absolutely, yes. I think this may very well be your best video yet.
Very well put together video mate!
definitely
Simplicity; one with nature, a step closer to the universe.
Excellent Fall pictures! Fantastic locations!!
We are a part of nature all the same as the trees, mountains, etc. In my opinion, that's why we should get outside as much as possible.
Thanks for the Reminder! It is the time to focus on other stuff and when I can find a composition in places I have been many times before I really feel that I have accomplished something! It really pushes the backspace key and restarts the day with a clean screen!
Good analogy 😁

That sounds like a great cause John. Feel free to share this video with them (only if you think it’ll be helpful to you though 😅)

This is the sort of video I /want/ to make, but I can only do it if it’s sustainable, which I’m not sure it is sadly.
