@Star Trek Theory lol true I was lucky enough to have a long run , we got way cooler equipment new toys but I'd rather have the late 80s and early 90s back , if I had not retired a E 7 I would have ended up an E2
I like it. Brownells has stepped it up with their product lines. There's nothing that can go wrong with it. Not much can break on it. The simplicity is a beautiful thing.
Am I the only one who thinks the AR-15/M16 is much cooler if kept like this only with an optic on top than all those ultracool modified custom things which resemble anything except the original gun? Very cool video!! :)
Yes! But I do also greatly appreciate modern products. I love them both. A1’s were my original issue, but after a few years we were issued the A2 models.
These Colt scopes were readily available to to us in Vietnam. You could draw one these from supply with squad leaders okay. They weren't much good in the jungle or the bamboo. They were better suited for the central highlands. Contrary to popular belief, these were not the choice of "snipers". Regular platoons employed these for planned ambushes. I still have mine. The reticle is a little off, so it's just a souvenir from days gone by.
I love what brownells is doing with the retro series ARs. It really gives an appreciation for the original rifles. Now days the ARs are so loaded with every optic known to man on them, which takes a 7lbs rifle and turns it in a 12lbs rifle. Plus you need to carry batteries because they can and will fail. This is simple and works, I also like the idea of being able to use your iron sites or 4 power scope. No thing can go wrong with that. Hats off to brownells.
It's understandable to suggest running from California to avoid their crap gun laws, but the gun grabbers will always follow. Fight them where they are.
GUNBLUE490 who I consider one of the most knowledgeable gun guy you can find has advocated these type of simple optics. Dont doubt the old guys when it comes to firearms.
An ar15 I got from a pawn shop had one on it, had no idea what it was. Just found out a month ago how much they are worth. So, needless to say, I put back on. 😊
Hey Eric. I built my first AR-15 about 20 years ago. It was a slow build over time project. I started with an Olympic Arms Lower and bought my lower guts kit and A2 buttstock at one gun show and found my BCG at another. Got a referral to a guy living up by the Texas National Forest who had a complete DPMS A2 upper. I traded him a few handguns I had never bonded with and some cash and she was done. I wanted a small scope to put on the carry handle. The actual Colt 4X20 was too expensive. I eventually found a Leapers 4X20 knock off. It worked very well for me. Thanks for the video.
yeah remember when I bought my first real Colt 4X for my AR very compact but doesn't gather no light reticle so small radicals are so big it covers the target but it was cool to have a real Colt scope for my Colt AR 15 that was a long time ago wow
Brownells just got a shipment of these scopes. I was notified today they were in stock and bought one for my Troy XM177E2. The BCD is compatible with 55gr and 62gr ammo. Says so in the manual.
Go get yourself one. I doubt you will ever regret it. With all the new stuff out its nice to shoot older style guns. At least they are older style to me.
I have both this and the acog as a carry handle optic. I feel the acog is superior but the only benefit of the retro optic is that I don't need to wear glasses because I can adjust the lenses to focus. However, even without glasses on, I feel it's easier to hit targets with the acog mainly because it can illuminate if you have the fiber optic model.
Hey IV. Any chance you could put a worm in Brownells' ear about making a repro of the singlepoint sight? I need one for my Son Tay raid build and they are basically impossible to find
I just bought one of the Hammers 4x20. I have no clue how it will resemble the performance of this scope. It was only $129 so I am going to guess not as well.
I'm well below totally familiar with the AR platform. When you released the bolt with the left hand, the motion made me wonder what you did. Almost looks like slapping an H&K handle.
When using the bolt release to drop the bolt, you can slap it. It isnt a very hard thing to press in, so hitting it with the heel of your hand is perfectly viable.
Wouldn’t trade my ‘91 Colt Sporter Target model that’s for sure. Accurate, pristine bore & yeah, I don’t mind that it has the ‘sear block’ pinned either...not a problem. Funny, the ONLY thing I WISH they hadn’t done was CUT/removed the bayonet lug from the A2 FSB..oh well
I have an A2 as well made during the ban. I love that rifle. My dad traded his M1a for it and gave it to me for my birthday when I was in middle school. It's one of my favorite rifles to shoot. It's a tie between it and my wasr 10
I have a Troy GAU-5 retro. Being an USAF Vet I wanted something w/the USAF history. Also no one is producing GAU-8s for purchase. I've been trying for the last few weeks to get this optic from Brownells......... Its been OUT OF STOCK!!!! Yes, a bit disappointed and frustrated...
Eric, I would like to see you and Chad do a “How far will a 223 or a 5.56 kill” video. If any of the other fans would like to see this video too like this comment or comment agree or disagree!
loving the old school rifles and the optic! I understand you have the Colt brand so im sure its a bit more expensive then most of the others on the market. What do you think would be a great 2nd or 3rd choice for this style of scope? I have built two retro rifles ,one in all black and then one in all ODG.... Yours in this light looks like its FDE? what color is that?
Old school is cool. So my eyes don’t work as well as when we punched targets at 500 yards with the A1 sights. What is the official designation for this Brownells 4x optic ?? I would like to put one on my carry handle.
So this optic is clear glass? I have seen others that have red or colored glass. Some also can change the color of the reticles....any of that here? one or two ive seen have two reticles as well as illuminated ones....?
Heads up fellows shooters. If you order as retro scope from Optics Planet you will have no warranty from them or Brownells. I notified them both that I would warn you. Joe Harris
Question for you, can I mount this directly onto my picatinny rail? I can't seem to find an answer on the web. I'm hoping you guys are the experts can tell me. I love the retro look of the AR and the skull, but my ultimate plan is to run this on a lever action. I think the 4X fix scope. The lightweight compact shave and the retro look will look really nice. However, I can't seem to figure out if I can mount this optic any other way. Then onto the carry handle. Much I appreciate your help. Thank you. Peace
Dang I’m old 😝
I remember when this was state of art equipment we had to buy it ourselves
I remember being in the Army and this was actually only available to the Delta guys

I swear I can't wait to get a gun. I live in California so might be tough
Not as easy as other places, but it's doable for long guns, as long as you don't want a pistol-grip semi-automatic rifle.
Move. Run don't walk.
It's understandable to suggest running from California to avoid their crap gun laws, but the gun grabbers will always follow. Fight them where they are.
Move to ARIZONA!

What a beautiful rifle! And it was pretty awesome sending that last mag that fast!! 👍🏻 thanks Eric and Chad!
I preordered one and received at the beginning of 2020. It is Awesome!
@@ClaudioBenassi yes you can, there is a channel built into the mount of the optic
If I could, I would post a picture

Doubt anyone and everyone. Also, these kind of optics are squarely outclassed by ACOGs.
Little bro has one and it's an awesome sight it's very clear and the eye relief isn't that bad and it's pretty accurate
I still have an original Colt optic on mine!
An ar15 I got from a pawn shop had one on it, had no idea what it was. Just found out a month ago how much they are worth. So, needless to say, I put back on. 😊

Brownells has realy changed the game with The retros
I have the Barska Eurolux version, and once it is zeroed, it works extremely well.
It nice to see a a good optic that a like a ACOG but in a sniper scope package.
@ Right? I'm still trying to figure it out

Perfect for retro guns, and bubba guns

Rings like the darn flash hider on AAC uppers.
Damn, but that is crisp.
Would be awesome to see the camera mounted on on the scope itself to see through the reticle.
I luv my Brownells AR Carry Handle Scope. Makes me a much better shooter than with peep & post.
An optic review with no optic pov. Fantastic.
Not much to see tbh. Just a simple cross
