    My parents named me after an African Princess in Guinea Bissau and they always told us that we were descendants of kings and queens. Imagine if the slave trade never happened how beautiful our land and how rich our people would have been.

      Actually that is lies. The majority of most of our ancestors were subjects of kings and queens.
      Soo the actual ratio of slaves that were kings are like 1 in every 1000 or even less.
      So please stop thinking your worth is more than the average person.

      Dutty Boukman may have started the revolution but Toussaint was the brains behind it, the man was a genius. He outmaneuvered and outflanked

    Yes the atlantic slave genocide was a human tragedy on an epic scale. This video just confirms my susipicions that since some of these royals were able to demand the freedom of their families and kept slaves or participated in the slave trade. It shows that certain groups were deliberately singled out by others to be enslaved. That our ancestors survived the genocide is testament to their strength, determination and resiliance. We owe them everything, if not for them we would not be alive today.

      We have a zulu king in South Africa. Our government pay him a monthly salary. His people that live on his land has to pay tax to him and they are very poor. When his daughter got married the whole country had to pay for her wedding which were a few million rands. I agree that we should stand together but whenever a black person in Africa becomes a president or is a king then they take so much money from us that it becomes very hard not to dislike them.

    • @AmandaMaHlophe
      @AmandaMaHlophe 4 роки тому +9

      To Jenny Harris I agree with you. Although I don't know the whole Zulu king situation so not sure of that. I know he is exploiting his power not certain to what extent.
      Nonetheless I doubt we as an African nation will stand as one. It will take years of undoing the past. And there's so much undoing and awakening that's needed.
      The divide and conquer theory has haunted and is still haunting us Africans. I know I won't be alive to see the unity. But only hope I form part of the diabolical change that is needed in the African continent.

      @@infozone9601 My grandfather was 85 when he died, so he definitely came up in the Jim Crow era. He never learned to read or write because he had to work. He worked ginning cotton until we forced him to retire at 70. So I would not say he chose to, old habits die hard. In order for him as a black man in Mississippi to survive this is what he had to do. Regardless I'm not gonna call my granddaddy a "boot licker" or any other disrespectful name. What we know about them and how they survived is just the tip of the iceberg. I am not ashamed and never will I "Kanye West" my ancestors by saying they "chose" this life. They survived so that we could be here. Never compare a comfy office job to what mine and possibly your ancestors had to go through.

    Imagine how many more didn’t get lucky and got freed or lead a rebellion to have their names remembered. On your channel I’ve been trying to tell people what was going on in Africa was more than just innocent vs guilty parties and just because one was taken as a slave doesn’t mean they themselves didn’t do the same to others. You can be a soldier and win 10 battles but loose one and end up dead or taken captive and suffer the same fate as those you previously defeated.

    My husband and I enjoyed watching this. Thank you for that. One thing he wanted to point out, being Jamaican, is that you mentioned the slave revolt in Jamaica was ended eventually after the death of King Takyi. This isn't correct. Queen Nanny was the leader of the slave revolts in Jamaica. It wasn't one effort but many concentrated in different parishes in Jamaica. Once freedom was obtained for one area, they went to another. She was the one that trained the Maroon army, strategically planned the capture of those in command that were close to the Queen of England, and used them as bargaining chips. She led the way to freedom and reaching a treaty.

    This was an interesting video and I am glad someone finally pointed out how chaotic the slave trade was; that is one detail history teachers didn't mention. Watching this UA-cam channel has taught me an important lesson: learning doesn't end. In the past many of us have complained we didn't learn certain things in school and I too am still upset with how American history was taught to us in schools - and I went to high school in the 90s. But it is up to each of us to continue learning about the past and sometimes UN-learning things we were taught in school.

However at least my ancestors were quakers and worked to free the slaves in America. Not like I had anything to do with their efforts as it was long before my time. But I am glad that no one in my family profited from human trafficking.
