Kingdom of Kush - History Of Africa with Zeinab Badawi [Episode 4]

  • In this episode Zeinab Badawi travels to the country of her birth and the very region of her forefathers and mothers: northern Sudan where she sheds light on this little-known aspect of ancient African history, the great Kingdom of Kush.
Its kings ruled for many hundreds of years and indeed in the eighth century BC they conquered and governed Egypt for the best part of 100 years. Furthermore, Kush was an African superpower. Its influence extended to the modern day Middle East.
Zeinab visits the best preserved of Sudan’s one thousand pyramids and shows how some of the ancient customs of Kush have endured to this day.

You can't help but become enraged when you realize how much Europeans destroyed and stole from Africa's history and then replaced it with their own. The idea that some claimed that Africa had no history is absurd. What an incredible documentary, very well done.

African Americans came from West Africa. When do you plan on visiting there to see the ruins from the Kingdoms your kin may have actually been part of? When's your trip to Timbuktu? Egypt was primarily a kingdom of arab looking people who distinguished themselves from the black Nubians and near white Libyans next door. The closest ancestor to ancient mummies they've tested is current Egyptians, and the second are the Caucasian looking Arabs of the Levant.

@@krystalccameron7689 Afro-Americans have admixtures from other parts of the African continent, not just Western Africa, some have admixtures from Central, Eastern and Southern parts of Africa like places such as Tanzania, Kenya, and Congo (which converted to Christianity in the 15th century and had strong ties with the Catholic Church in Rome). Do you keep the same energy when European Americans whose ancestry is primarily from Northern/Western Europe when they're planning their trip to Athens or Rome? No? So why the double standards? Also, Libyans and Arabs aren't Caucasian nor are they white, white people are exclusively of European descent, and Arabs and Europeans aren't of European descent, and there are black Libyans, look up the Toubou people of Libya, also, the oldest mummy discovered by archaeologists in a cave in Libya was a black mummy which is 5600 years old and predates most of the mummies discovered in Egypt, the name of the mummy is "Uan Muhuggiag" and TImeline did a documentary about the Uan Muhuggiag mummy and uploaded it here in UA-cam which you could check out. Caucasians are only native to the Caucasus mountains and no where else. Skeletal remains from Southern Egypt of the Skulls of the sites of Nabta Playa and Gebel Ramlah has concluded that they're mostly closely related to Sub-Saharan Africans: "Analysis of human remains by Fred Wendorf and reported in "Holocene Settlement of the Egyptian Sahara", based on osteological data suggests s Sub-Saharan African origin for the site's inhabitants. A dental and skeletal anaylsis by Joel D. Irish also tentatively suggests a mainly Sub-Saharan African affinity for the origin for Nabta Playa''s inhabitants (with Sub-Saharan tendencies most commonly detected), but also possible North African tendencies in some, concluding that "Henneberg et al. suggest that Nabta Playa people may have been most similar to Negros south of the Sahara, the present qualitative dental comparison tentatively supports this conclusion." Some researchers including Christopher Ehret, have suggested a Nilo-Saharan linguistic affinity for the Nabta people."-Wikipedia

"The Zink Unit determined that the mummy of an unknown man buried with Ramesses was, because of the proven genetic relationship and a mummification process that suggested punishment, a good candidate for the pharaoh's son, Pentaweret, who was the only son to revolt against his father. It was impossible to determine the cause of his death. Both mummies were predicted by Whit Athey's STR-Predictor to share the Y Chromosomal haplogroup E1b1a1-M2 and 50% of their genetic material, which pointed to a father-son relationship. In 2022, S.O.Y. Keita commented that analysis of the Shor Tendem Report (STR) data published on Rameses III and the Armana Royal mummies which included Tutankhamun showed "a majority to have an affinity with 'Sub-Saharan" Africans in one affinity analysis". Although, he cautioned that this does not mean that the royal mummies "lacked other affilations" which he argued had been obsecured in typological thinking. Keita further added that different "data and algorithms might give different results" which reflected the complexity of biological heritage and the associated interpretation." - Wikipedia
Also, look at the mummy of Maiherpri. As for that 2017 study.
"The researchers cautioned that the examined ancient Egyptian speciemens may not be representative of those of all ancient Egyptians since they were from a single archaeological site from the northern part of Egypt" - Wikipedia. Which means, the skeletal remains from Southern Egypt would have been much closer related to Sub-Saharan Africans than the ones in Northen Egypt which I've proved earlier in my previous comment. Also, "The absolute estimates of Sub-Saharan African ancestry in these three ancient Egyptian individuals ranged from 6% to 15%" So in conclusion ancient Egypt was most likely multi ethnic, which makes sense since Egypt has been conquered by sevral different empires throughout its history, and Egypt is a crossroads between Africa and the Near East.

Sudan had very many pyramids, most were destroyed by the colonisers in a bid to make people believe that blacks couldn't have such knowledge. Egypt was spared due to the fact that it was then inhabited by the arabs that had entered the country because of trade..The original inhabitants (black) were attacked and forced to flee their lands. Good thing they painted themselves on the walls, otherwise, our heritage would have disappeared completely.

As an unabashed European, I'm glad that this series was produced by the BBC. It shows that the non-European part of British Society has reached a density that means it's needs MUST be met. That's wonderful all by itself.
Also, it allows us, as Europeans to discover what was hidden from us by our ancestors and marvel at what Africa once was and where it could be again.
Is this perfect and free from any wrong information, no not at all, but then again, no-one ever got a PhD in The History of African Civilisation by only watching one TV documentary.

Well, if we should generalised it all to one whole bunch, then everything runs down from slavery to colonialism and ultimately neocolonialism which influences and interferes in the African bureaucratic systems.
I believe all these were possible due to some cleverly programmed global institutions that serves as an impediment for African countries to give away their glories that had always dignified and protected us in exchange of getting in return from those institutions what they need for our various national developments.
It's a pity but Africa have been tightly scolded and suffocated from a very long time and had no other alternatives than to give in to the so called global orders to be able to survive.

There's a narrow focus on colonial history in academia especially south of the Sahara. While it's important to always remember and learn from it, the bias towards that period, overshadows the incredible and captivating history of precolonial Africa. A period that should be taught to our young to inspire them to believe that great things can be done in this continent.
