    Great vid. Tx for that. It's not recent but anyway :) It helped. Note that now, the integration works fine. However, setting a fix IP helps a lot. Because with DHCP, everytime it wakes up, it needs to make a DHCP request, which add overhead. With a fix IP, in home assistant,open/close sensor change is reported within 1 to 2 seconds.

      @BeardedTinker  Рік тому +2

      Thank you! I always set fixed IP addresses for all of the devices. The problem with Shelly Door/WIndow sensor is the battery life and if in deep sleep - time to send state on wakeup. There is no way to speed up wake up, WiFi handshake and sending state, not with the chip used in this older device. If they would release newer version with newer Silicon Labs, it could potentially be faster and have longer battery life.

    Just want to clear something - all 6 sensors do show up (eventually) in Home Assistant if you are using internal integration: Door/Windows state, temperature, vibration, lux, tilt and battery states.
    And to add, it's running latest firmware (now 1.11)

    •  2 роки тому +1

      Great! The Home Assistant can drawing nice temperature diagram, like shelly H&T?

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  2 роки тому

      @ you can use temperature sensor that was added from this door sensor and combine it with HACS mini-graph-card. That is custom component that I use for most of my graphs.

      Sorry to hear that. It's a shame. BTW, there is new firmware available 1.11 I think, that is focused on battery powered devices. Try to upgrade as it may help.

    These are really, really awkward to set up; but eventually they work, and they become reliable - providing you don’t interfere. Two here running for six months now and battery still 95%.

      Are your sensors triggered often or just 1-2 times a day?
      Not sure if you know, bit few days back, new firmware was release for battery powered devices. It should further optimise the battery. Updated mine yesterday and will keep an eye on it.

Response time is less than a second. They also put on the outside lights after dark if the door is opened. I had 13 April firmware but just pressed update.

    I can agree with this video. I just bought two of these sensors. They were more difficult to connect to HA, and one of them has a defective magnet sensor...it always indicates open even if the magnet sits right next to the sensor. I am happy with all my other Shelly components, from 2PM plus, smoke, plug plus and H&T...but these are just crap.

    Today I received that sensor directly from Shelly, had firmware of 2021 and I update to the last one of 2023 and behaves like yours, vibration sensor don't work, now we have 5 sensors in Shelly integration. I bought batteries from them and in last 11 hours mine went from 100% to 98%, I have several devices from them and this is the first that is a waste of money.

    I want to use as a letter box open sensor - but it takes about 3-4 secs for posty to put mail in and the sensor doesn't connect in that time and doest send a signal if it is back in closed position before connecting

      New firmware updates improved on connection speed, but there is not much you can do with WiFi sensors.
      Problem is that they go in deep sleep and when they awake it takes time for WiFi handshake.
      Did you try any ZWave (I don't use them) or Zigbee door/window sensor? They shoul dbe faster to respond.
      Some are also using light sensors for mailbox it should register when it's open due to light change.

    I made the mistake of getting two of these. Like yours the batteries only last a fraction of the stated time even with very infrequent use. Tilt and vibration also very poor. I have stopped using them and now use Zigbee and Z-wave sensors that use much cheaper batteries and last months before battery levels drop even a few percent.

    Hi,
    First of all, thank you for your videos.
    Just two questions:
    1.- Is normal to wait 5 seconds until a switch (also from Shelly) receives the message to "turn_on"?
    2.- How can I access to the web interface?, the device is in sleep mode the mjority part of the time so I can not access to configure CoIot for instance.
    Thanks!

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  3 роки тому

      Hi and thanks for great question.
      1) yes, that can be normal behaviour unfortunately. If it's receiving đessage from door sensor, I would say that it's average time you can get. This depends how fast can it connect to WiFi
      2) You need to wake it up. Easiest way is to use needle that arrived with it and insert in small hole on the front of the sensor to push the switch.
      Other option you have is to trigger the sensor and quickly open the URL. Doesn't work 100% of the time so you may need to repeat this.

      @@BeardedTinker Thank you very much.
      We will try to improve the WiFi signal.
      Regarding the "Open" events, I noticed that it is sending a "false open"event to my Home Assistant several times per day and in the same second I received the "close" event so it seems to be a bug or something strange.
      I thought to configure the Automation in HA with a "Open" state duration of 5 seconds but I think it should not work because it enters in sleep mode once it has sent the "Open" event, right?.

      It could be bug. I'm really not liking this sensor to be honest. Was expecting much more from it in terms of reliability.

      In regard to Door (but also motion and temperature) I'm very very happy with Xiaomi Aqara Zigbee devices.
      They are fast in terms of response, reliable in terms of capturing events and changes, batteries do last a long time (door sensors is now over 2 years for ex) - and price is really OK for them. BUT They are Zigbee.
      I would love to see WiFi sensors like that. I do have motion sensor from Shelly and it's very sturdy, working great and my wife and kids call it "First device I bought that really works".

    Every single one of my Shelly Door/Window sensors has required bending of the battery contact. Very poor QA. They also only seem to respond to open/close events if those events are a decent period of time apart - a fast open/close event doesn't register properly. I don't even want to mention the Shelly app ... one of the worst pieces of software I've ever installed. Definitely won't be buying any additional products like this.
