- FYI. I have NO AFFILIATION WITH TEMU!! I'd never bought from TEMU before. They strike me as a low quality discount company, and their general reputation is suspect at best. But when I saw a listing for a $60 mini lathe, I couldn't resist, and had to give it a shot. So here's my review of TEMU's mini lathe.

I have one very similar to the one you have here. As an FYI you mentioned you took of the back housing because you didn't see it had a use. I have found there are 2 things I use it for. First off you were talking about how hard it is to get the wing nut carriage to align perfectly because you have to eyeball it, well on mine that carriage slides into that casing perfectly and keeps it square and true. You loosen the screws and slide it up and down the T-Track. Secondly, notice the cutout slot on the housing, you can slip a mini rotary drill saw blade down into the slot, attach its spindle shaft to it and chuck that up in the lathe and you now have a little mini table saw that you can cut your dowel stock or other wood with . Mine came with an HSS 50x1.0x6.5 blade assembly but it didn't look like yours came with that. Below is a link to a set I think would work just make sure it's not so large it hits the track (50mm or a little less is perfect) Now the truth is it takes quite a lot to get it in table saw mode but it is really cool, just be careful and safe it's not a SawStop 😮

The lathe is made for jewelry making. It isn't a general purpose machine tool.
Well that sucks.... when I searched "woodworking tools", it was one of the first results......
@@SothpawDesigns It's a great little lathe for making rings out of a variety of materials, including wood.
@@gaiustacitus4242 I could see it used for those kinds of things. Makes sense.
This would be perfect for making crochet hook handles... 😉
You’d have to shave that dowel down from end to end so it’s then perfectly round and centered to the lathe before cutting any grooves into it.
That makes sense. I see what you're saying. As I said, I'd never used a lathe before, but I get it now.
@@SothpawDesigns The lathe is one of my favorite tools. It’s a tool that you can start a project and finish it with.
This was helpful to me. thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! keep it up
Thanks, will do!
Great video! I was not expecting it to cost 60.00 bucks.
It was an interesting test.
I just paused during the unboxing. That set of carving knives is similar to something I've seen on similar cheap-stuff importing sites over the years as generic wood-carving, and never related to lathe use. I also have never used a lathe, so I have no feedback on the general feasibility of such carving knives for the purpose, but somehow I suspect that won't have a lot of impact on the video later.
I wasn't overly impressed by the entire thing. I think its more designed for jewelry making and beads maybe. The only reason that I did it was because I thought it'd make an interesting test. It's a decent piece of equipment, but nothing I'd recommend. I didn't include it in the video, but I have not affiliation with TEMU, and based on what I've researched on them, I don't like their click-funnel type of marketing that they do through their app, but not being extremely educated about TEMU, I didn't want to be TOO critical.
did you ever consider that the plastic housing you removed. Is what was supposed to help hold that end centered?
That's a good point. I feel like an idiot.
@SothpawDesigns Sorry if my response came off sounding insulting, it was not my intent. As I read it, now I sound not so polite
@@haroldyoung2254 no not at all, you were fine. As soon as I read your comment, it hit me that you were 100% right. I didn't take it as insulting at all, I just realized how obvious it was and that I had overlooked it.
Nice t-shirt, that's a deep cut right there
Glad you noticed. I get shirts for me, and if other people enjoy it, then that’s just a bonus.
Thanks for the review. Think I'll pass on that piece. Think i could buy a couple of CNC bits for $60.
Agreed! I only bought it because I thought it'd make for an interesting video. My expectations weren't high.
@@SothpawDesigns Always nice to try something different.
Good evening
Go Cats!!

I mean...it's Temu...what did you expect?!?!🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Expectations weren't high. Just thought it'd be an interesting experiment.
Sorry, but what a waste of time
2:28 well, it looks like you failed drama class horribly in high school.
BAHAHAAAA!!! Unfortunately, I knew exactly what you were referring to before I clicked the time stamp.
