My initial motivation for watching your video was your take on TEMU’s woodworking offerings. We’ll done. But I really like the 2nd half which did a deep dive on the TEMU operation including their business model and what offerings are safe versus what to avoid. A great public service. Thanks
Ditto from South Louisiana! Shall definitely practice "better safe than sorry" concerning product types he mentioned and stick with purchases where biggest risk/s are potentially low quality as opposed to fire or chemicals 👍
The listing for the carving tool probably sold the shaft as a separate item. A lot of the listings are broken up that way. On the one hand its disappointing if you dont get what you expect; but on the other hand if you just need a replacement part it is nice not tk have to buy a whole new item.
I think its ok for select items. Sort of like harbor freight. I would not get any sort of precision measurement tools or anything I need to hold a serious edge. But for consumables or stuff for shaping softer goods its fine. Plus they process refunds painlessly for anything you are unhappy with.
I buy from Temu around once a week, all sorts of stuff, from stainless steel boat fittings, small tools, led lighting, masking tape - you name it, and the package arrives in a week with an in-country post label. I imagine they may have huge warehouses actually in my country (the UK). Some stuff is pretty shitty, so appropriately priced, but other stuff, like those tools you bought, is pretty amazing value, and seriously not bad quality at all. I recently watched a video about the China post scam, showing Chinese postage is free, even internationally. I will try to find the video, though it is somewhere in a big sea of YT videos I watch. You have to take care buying from ANY Chinese site as they knowingly sell low cost, low quality junk, what Sir Alan Sugar termed as a "mug's eyeful". Make sure, if it is a higher cost item, that you get as close-up a picture as possible, enlarging the photos as much as you can. With other stuff, eg catapult elastic, plastic tubing, electrical wire etc you know for sure it will be inferior, so be careful what you buy. The final point is that as our Western economies wither away the Chinese are manufacturing everything that the world used to make, buying up redundant machinery and out competing others so that all the manufacturing goes to China. How long can it go on before we haven't the money to spend on their stuff, and they will have crushed their source of income? Japan had a slightly similar economic 'miracle' but ended up losing their huge grip, so I think China is making hay while the sun shines, and who can blame them? China is no longer a poor country. It is super wealthy, with glistening skyscraper cities to rival anything Dubai or the US boasts. But when it all crashes we will get the blame. We'd better be ready to create our own manufacturing economies or we will be held to ransom by manufacturers. But so far I have no complaints from a trading point of view about TEMU, and it's fun to just trawl their endless 'catalogue' buying stuff we don't desperately need, but would like, for example the shovel-shaped tea spoons or the digital blood oxygen reader, £20 from British shops but £1.90 from Temu. Let's have fun with it while we can, but be careful - they also make and sell a hell of a lot of utter crap. Zoom in on those pictures before you click 'BUY'!!!
I also check reviews to see if anybody posted pictures of what they got for reference. In my reviews, I also post pictures of it received and in use so buyers can have a bettter idea of what it is.
That's definitely important. However if the same product is produced by ten different places then quality is still really sketchy. Reviews definitely help though.
Eh, China is moving towards a service economy like most "Western" economies. The cost of labor has gone up drastically the last 40 years, so they understand that foreign companies are going to look for cheaper labor sources, and I think companies are turning towards Indian production. Now, I don't know that any country can fill the cheaper distribution lines that China has in Wuhan, though. It's primarily the product of having a semi-planned economy. One thing they've done is really ramped up their banking industry giving them more investment in other country's infrastructure and support for their companies to manufacture goods abroad. It's not unique to China, as an example, Japan has quite a few electronics production plants in the Philippines.
I have that dowel maker too. I've only put softwood through it and got a fair amount of tearout. I haven't tried hardwood yet. Definitely screw it down to a base and clamp it to your workbench. I got less tearout when I tried to feed the stock slowly. One odd note; the dowel maker in the picture I ordered from was calibrated in metric, but the one I received was Imperial which was a pleasant surprise as 98% of my drill bits are Imperial.
I've used them a a couple of times. In both cases, the products were acceptable; albeit not top quality. Coincidentally, I think many of the products available on TEMU are the same ones on Amazon. Kind of looks like AMAZON buys them and marks them up. In either case, you're going to end up with stuff made in China. I agree about one thing and that is you need to be prudent about which items you buy. If it's going to be an item that would likely require a return at some point, I would stay with Amazon other wise, I think it's 6 of one and 1/2 doz another. All in all, I'll continue to use them for some things and not others. I also, don't put these types of apps on my phone. I'm an old fashioned guy who uses his phone.....ready ?.... to make phone calls.
The orange folding sharpener? Perfectly serviceable and hard wearing. I have one in my pouch and use it multiple times a day. Easily extends the usable life of Sheetrock blades, puts a good working edge on my pocket knife, and is handy to touch up a chisel edge when used with a strop. Used to have a DMT version - closer to 600/1000 - which cost $30, besides the handle quality, these things stack up just as well.
I'm in Tasmania (that island down there). Temu and Alibaba seem too good to be true (haven't tried yet), I will never line Jeff Bezos's pocket, but the vast majority of things they sell are not available locally at all. The best we get is Bunnings and Carbatec which cover a lot of hand tools and power tools, but everything you just showcased is new to me. $0.02
Temu ships direct from manufacturer. Two advantages. 1. Amazon/Distributor mark up is eliminated. 2. Items are shipped in small packages instead of container ships. Temu takes advantage of U.S. import laws avoiding tariffs on importation that large scale (container size lots)would pay. Also comments like ‘Chinese junk’ are what got Americans manufacturing to where it is. 70 years ago it was ‘Japanese’ junk. Now we are huge net importers and many skilled manufacturing jobs are being done elsewhere. Skilled manufacturing jobs are looked down on in the U.S. So when you see homelessness or underemployed think about it. The rest of the world is flat out competing the U.S. in manufacturing. Ships. Steel. Billy Basses you name it. Sorry for the rant.
Ty for going out of your way to explain the risk to your viewer about app safety, toxic issue, and electrical items. I don't leave anything that can explode as it stay plug in from these no QC brands. There is a UA-cam video on small fuse set.. 2 amp that won't blow even at 8 amp... That is dangerous
And the reason that things are so cheap is that they've figured out how to get around customs with the dollar amount and China also, in many cases rely on slave labor so, for me I'll pay a bit more and feel better about not supporting the misery that some of that business relies on.
Any substance to that slave labor claim? Apart from convicts sentenced to labor, China is not NK, don't get me wrong prison conditions aren't a 5 star hotel journey, but I'd say it's comparable to many other places across the globe and hey at least they are relatively safe, compared to many US prisons.
I recently bought some things from Temu: 4 wood drill bits with the thing to carve space for the screw tip (sorry my english vocabulary is limited, i have no idea what they're called), a center punch, a 3 m fluorescent tape and a cooking spatula to spread glue. I paid 11 euros (12 dollars) with free shipment. I received everything 10 days later. They are all surprisingly decent. I though i was getting scammed. Happy to say i wasn't.

Very informative but you left out a couple of important things that really stick out with these high advertising Chinese companies. Many of their products are made using slave labor from the Chinese Muslim Uyghur community and that the values of these products are also due to you undermining our law that placed tariffs on the imports of these products. TEMU gets around this by selling these products to you directly, avoiding the large purchaser importing the same goods, i.e. Amazon paying the tariffs. TEMU and Schein also put huge amounts of money in products free into the hands of UA-cam influencers to promote their company and at the same time sell these goods under a loss in order for the Chinese Communist Party which overseas these operations to gather your data and pressurize American importers to punish them. All of this information is widely available for the consumer to find in a search of these companies. When you make a purchase from TEMU you are supporting slave labor and genocide for the ability to buy things cheap.
USA has a huge military base in South Arabia since late 1940's ... South Arabia is an icon of democracy, isn't it? ... There's about 700+ American military stations outside of USA soil.. Guantanamo Bay is a Cuban territory, you've been there since 1904, get out bastards..
- Thanx 4 sharing. I've found them so disruptive with advertisement that I've simply overlooked them but may "take a look" based on your unboxing. Thanx again.
I actually use imperial more than metric. But most of the stuff on these sites since it's made in China is metric unfortunately. I wish I was one of those people who could do the instant imperial metric conversion 😆
I used Temu, I bought a shirt, I didn't like it and was going to return it. You get one return per order. The shirt I wanted to return, they said, keep it. It was an $8 shirt
Clothes are the riskiest category. Quality and design can be lower than your expectations. Asian sizing is often at least two or three sizes smaller. Check out the reviews and be careful.
Use a completely different password for the app as well. It may not be related, but too convenient that I used a gmail address for and my hotmail address is now sending me a unique code several times every couple of days.
Yea, I actually use an old android phone for these things so it doesnt have access to my information, other than my shipping information. And even then I usually have it ship to my office.
Great video. Most of the stuff that I bought from Temu were pretty good. I do have a problem with their shipping. One set of items, they had a problem with the shipping and I never received them. Another set of items came in over 2 weeks time. I did however get a $5 credit both times. They are good like that.
Had one item arrive broken (received refund) but all shipments have always arrived and been complete (thus far, anyway). My purchases are very low ticket items, though.
Or in some cases Bauer from Harbor freight. I want a 1/2 impact but 400 dollars for a Makita? Either 50 dollars or 120 depending on which capacity I want. I will rarely need to use it.
If you do a comparison, thethe prices are no lower than any other junk on Amazon. The difference is with Amazon you don’t have wait 2 months for it. I’ll pay more for my junk
@@ladislavkancir4936 TEMU is not an on-line retailer. They are a data collection branch of the Chinese Communist Party. They sell junk, using it to gather Credit Card info, Location and email addresses, buying habits and lots of other information that STUPID American buyers are giving up voluntarily. This data is used along with data from other sources ... for use against the US in a future "cyber war". This is not hyperbole. It's the same basic strategy as Tik Tok....and we are allowing them to do it !!
My issue with Temu and apps/companies like them (Shein, et al.) is, in addition to the concerns you raise here about data/security, that you just know prices this low can only result from, shall we say….non-kosher labor practices. All these “race to the bottom” shopping apps are supported by horrific workforce conditions and abuses. If something seems too cheap to be possible, it’s usually because it is.
I've tried to explain Temu to people but where I live most Americans are "China-scared" and think buying from Temu is selling out America's interests. It's the same stuff in Amazon, most of the time. You're just buying from a middleman in the US that takes a larger cut and so they pass that expense to you. If Amazon supported American interests, businesses, families then maybe I would buy from them. If I can't get it locally, I go directly to Temu. As for the data harvesting... Can't say much there. Everyone harvests your data. Only difference is what each entity does with it. If all they want is to market better then I'm fine with it. But as you mentioned, the holding company has done shady stuff before and I've never known a corrupt company to change for the better.
I will say that anytime that I've had a concern about any of their products, they simply refund that $Amount$ back to my cc and tell me to keep the item. I recently bought an area rug for $13. It really wasn't a rug but more like a tapestry.....too thin to be a rug. They immediately refunded the $13 and now I have a "tapestry" of a bear hanging in my garage~~~ Some of the items are very cheap and crap.....but hey; It's China. (They are in the same "Quality" position that Japan was back in the 60's). But other products are surprising decent quality.
I would rank banggoods quality and selection of items higher than temu. The discounts are not as "good" as temu but better quality control. Banggood also has rewards programs but doesn't run off of games and gimmicks like temu.
Temu = unsatisfactory product quality and a conspicuous lack of conformity with import standards have raised eyebrows. Other recurring areas of concern include: Selling of customer data, gen zers shop on Temu because the prices are low. So low, in fact, that the companies don't pay tariffs when the products are shipped screwing the U.S. and it also means that shoppers are unknowingly supporting forced labor overseas.
You know you got brainwashed when cheap products are treated with suspicion and expensive stuff are revered. Like bruh... The one selling cheap ain't the one taking your money
It is ridiculous to get so high and mighty regarding Temu purchases. Sure, they are chinese and therefore poor quality, workmanship, and materials are to be expected. The wares sold by Temu, however, perform as well, if not better, as would be expected for the price paid for them. So far, I have no complaint with them.
Interesting video! As a longtime Amazon Prime member, I would not order from any Chinese vendor or other over seas company. Reason being that I get free shipping and the item arrives usually in one or two days! Plus, I can return any item no questions asked and get an immediate refund on my account. It's a no brainer!
"My piece of wood is crooked " Sounds like information for a different video!😂😂😂😂😂 Subscribed regardless 😅 I think everyone can tell the level of culture I am 😂

I have bought stuff from Amazon that flopped. My TEMU purchases have been at least 90% positive. The flops are cheap enough not to hurt my heart.
The listing for the carving tool probably sold the shaft as a separate item. A lot of the listings are broken up that way. On the one hand its disappointing if you dont get what you expect; but on the other hand if you just need a replacement part it is nice not tk have to buy a whole new item.

Yes this seems to happen a lot. The photo gives the impression and there's no clarifying details on the listing to say otherwise.

Great review. I too have found most of their stuff to be good. By the way. You have a good radio voice.

I'd wager that the dowel jig would make smoother cuts if properly mounted so it's not shaking around like it was in your hand...
Definitely agree!
As Alibaba, the prices in Temu often not included the delivery that was really expensive
I always get free 8 day delivery in the UK

I'm in the US. There does seem to be issues in other locations
It's not too late. You can return the item to temu with no trouble at all. Been there, done that.

90% of products in amazon are from china via fba program. So you are overpaying what you would buy directly from aliexpress or temu
It has never taken more than 10 days to get stuff from there. If it does take longer, they give you $5 discount
Cheers Bud answered my Q's
You don't use a jewelry saw to cut wood like that.
Amusing. Similar to my experience with TEMU. Although I did have items removed from my cart for selling out.
Selling out?
They run out of stock from a supplier so they remove it from your cart and usually show similar items. This happens often.
I know people who have bought stuff from them then they get hacked charges start showing up beware
What did you use for your countertop in your background?
This one ua-cam.com/video/VQaFDyX8rE0/v-deo.html
Imagine if they knew what quality control was.
The carving tool looks like it may work with a dremel-style flexible shaft.
I might try that!
It is used with a Foredom rotary tool. @@CNTHINGS
3:40 in and you're not the guy to access tools. That's not the way to use a jewler's saw. 10:37, listen carefully. Did he just let one go? Hmm.
Thank you for your help.
I have noticed on temu at 3 different prices for the same thing. What's up with that?
Because they are sourcing from different small manufacturers would be my guess.
@@CNTHINGS ok makes sense. Thanks for the interesting video.
If you do a comparison, thethe prices are no lower than any other junk on Amazon.
The difference is with Amazon you don’t have wait 2 months for it.
I’ll pay more for my junk
They are a fair bit cheaper than Amazon if you wait for the discount gimmicks. Still not worth waiting months for most things.
10 days. Otdered a DeWalt oscillating tool from Amazon. Ordered it on the 5th and it is due to show up this Friday the 29th.
if the product is way to cheap it is junk but some stuff is ok
I’m going to turn this into a drinking game every time you say shaft I’m going to do shots
🤣
Okay how about a review on the wish app man
My credit card was compromised when I bought from them be very careful using them.
Temu makes Harbor Freight look like Snap-On.
Accurate 🤣
I don't trust snap on, terrible quality. But free credit from the tool vans and pay forever plans win out.
I bet Harbor Freight won’t steal money from your bank account after few purchases 😂😂😂😂😂
Harbor Freight seems to be trying though. Some of their stuff is surprisingly good.
12:55 - The _what_ wasn't in the bag? I require a visual aid.
🤣🤣✊
I wanna see the $150 welders in action.
Bit funny. That person in usa talking about chemicals in stuff. Dude have you seen the food u eat in usa?
Ebay is the same price on a lot of things and it arrives faster
What do they have as far as power tools now
Mostly small cheap stuff. No name drills, routers, heat guns, grinders. Pretty much stuff I'd expect to die after the first couple uses.
Saw is $5.99 at harbor freight.
Looks like dremel shaft might fit....
Is this similar to Banngood?
Watched for the Temu review... Followed for the shaft joke...
Thank You Richard Roundtree
How long is shipping
2-6 weeks usually
Anybody with 2 lathes and a spotless shop is to be respected and believed. Good reviews.
Replace your whole shop with temu tools only
🤣🤣
The sheep blaring is a hoot😂
You're so funny lol good review
Thanks 😁
You know you got brainwashed when cheap products are treated with suspicion and expensive stuff are revered.
Like bruh... The one selling cheap ain't the one taking your money
Damn now they got your information
It's not TEMU. It's Tapemu.
Buy from the website and do not download the app!
I have purchased worse in my own stores. You get what you pay for. If you don't like TEMU then don't shop there . Simple..
Acceptable, but if want quality then you have spend the bucks
"My piece of wood is crooked "
Sounds like information for a different video!😂😂😂😂😂
Subscribed regardless 😅
I think everyone can tell the level of culture I am 😂
Yeah NO. I also don’t shop Amazon anymore. To much junk!
And that fly is still flying around that room....
Probably
installed app, coupon explosion, notification explosion, uninstalled app
Sounds about right
The shaft edits killed me 😂😂😂😂😂🙏🙏💪💪💪💪💪🤛🤛😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Just another Temu add, there all the same, starts out being doubtful then wow this is ok, nice try.
You didn't watch the whole thing.
@@CNTHINGS yes i did
@@jimamizzi1 it's definitely not an add and pretty objective weighing the pros and cons.
All you guys that give these crap companies any type of credit you should stop.
Temu price on woodworking tools built by slaves? Very affordable. The Temu app infiltrating your phone and accessing your private data? Priceless.
Hey there! Where do you think the Amazon items are bought from...? Guess what...China!
China isn't really the issue. It's the way manufacturing is sourced as I said in the video.
Everything is good for hobby jobs ………just……and the price….??well no bad for a second CHANCE recycle material, the customer paid for it 😳🔨
