Primal Dialga is actually a mistranslation. Or rather, it was just what they decided to translate it as (probably pecause it sounds cool and fits) because at the time it came out Primal Reversion wasn't a thing. Then Primal appeared a few years later and everyone got confused. In the japanese versions it's simply called Dark Dialga.

Well, to be honest Primal Groudon & Kyogre are just slightly edited _pallet swaps,_ which I don't mind since I think they look pretty cool! It looks more like the more dramatic changes are used for Mega evolutions. 🤔
I tried to make a pokemon! It’s called Stalabb, (STALL-ah-b) and is based off a blue crab. It’s a water type, eyestalk crab pokemon. “The Stalabb can barely move due to the weight of its eyestalks, witch it’s 6 legs cannot support. It is mostly harmless, but can break bones if it’s eyestalks hit you. It hits palm trees with its eyestalks to make fruit fall. It swallows the fruit whole with its big mouth on its puny body. It turns the fruit into juice in its body, spitting it out at attackers like water.”
the shading of the pokemon art style has always been tricky for me because it differs from my usual soft-cel style of shading so this was very helpful!
I feel like having no eyes, a blank face plays into the space theme. It does not give you any expressions, it is the very essence of existence before anything existed. Take a look at warframes for example. Most of them don't have any eyes and even when they do, they are imitations and not their functioning eyes. It gives off a blank, cold vibe you can associate with space and time before existence.

I already like this better than the other design vid that was just "pick an element and an animal and you're solid". Thank you for putting research into how they're actually conceptualized and pitched. Pokemon are based on concepts and that's part of what makes it so timeless and appealing. Sometimes it's just animal/vegetable/mineral spliced with an element, but sometimes it's based on mythology from around the world. IE- Drowsee and Munna aren't just Tapirs, they're Baku. Sometimes they're made to suit the in-game story also, like Xerneas and Yveltal.
Would be cool to see more on the linework and, I guess, being able to draw your base lines in something that approximates the iconic Sugimori style. You’ve clearly drawn Pokémon for quite a while and definitely have a sense for it!! I’ve never tried to draw in this style, though, and I’m not really sure where to start. Did you just study the style for a long time, or do you have a technique for learning/replicating a new style? I’m real curious, because this is awesome and I’d love to drop my tendency towards realism and broaden my horizons by attempting to draw Pokémon and Pokémon franchise characters in a more Suigimori-esque manner sometime. Personally, I draw traditionally, but in terms of base lines, shapes, and just style breakdowns, even seeing that kind of thing done digitally can help! ^_^
This was a very helpful video, thank you so much! I'm really into creating and designing my own characters, but never truly succeeded in making it the way I want it to be. Your tips gave me a lot of new ideas to visualise my creations!

Should concept and design be seperate? Because Muk's concept makes me feel like the design is better. like more thought can go into something and the simpler design might still be better @power bolt. No Pokemon is based on just one thing. Muk is inspired by radioactive blobs that come to life from nuclear waste, as well as a mud yokai.
Your primal changing type to Ghost dragon ties in nicely too. Ghost being formless like that of primal space and keeping the dragon typing to represent the sheer power it possesses
1:25 yes!!! Ill let everyone in on my story. So when i was younger i never considered pokemon to be something i was interested in, i collected cards for the looks of them, maybe the odd stuffed animal but i had no focus on what the pokemon were or took any interest in what pokemon even was. I was maybe finishing public school at the time when my mother purchased pokemon platinum from a local pawnshop. I became overly obsessed with not just pokemon, but giratina, i would play that game for hours on end, restarted multiple times just to re-meet dawn. In pokemon platinum about half way through, you receive an egg, in that egg is a togpei. I had once again found another pokemon that i would obsess over. Long story short, for someone who never really liked pokemon, i fell in love with everything pokemon has to offer. Now here i am, 15+ years later still enjoying this beautiful memory.
I wish artists like you could get the recognition of having their art put into the official games, so much talent could vastly improve an already magnificent game franchise to become so much more.

Oh goodness this design is absolutely lovely, would i be allowed to make a character of this design or take inspiration from it?
Of course!
@@Subjectively thank you so much!
Thank you for doing this! I am really inspired by Ken Sugimori and Pokémon has had a massive impact on my life.
"these pokemon are the result of a large team of talented designers, marketers..."
*shows Regigigas* lmao
Mistakes in editing and selecting video were made ma dud.
Your description of your design process is so good! On a side note, lovely choices for Pokemon music for this video
This is why Trubbish is a better design than Grimer and Muk. Baby has THOUGHT and HEART put into it but everyone hates them because a trash pokemon is "lazy".
tiacat11 I totally agree
@@jrpgplayer the garbadors would like to know your location
Seriously tho there's a Pokemon showdown UA-camr that's got his whole channel and fans based around garbadors and stuff lol
@@jrpgplayer Yea xD
Should concept and design be seperate? Because Muk's concept makes me feel like the design is better. like more thought can go into something and the simpler design might still be better
@power bolt. No Pokemon is based on just one thing. Muk is inspired by radioactive blobs that come to life from nuclear waste, as well as a mud yokai.
@@PaintedHoundie grimer and muks concept is literally just polluted water
That story about the Charizard lunchbox hit me on the emotional level.
Subjectively, use MILK!
- SUPER EFFECTIVE -
Charizard Fainted..
the history part in the first half and the art in the second half was a great video fusion
Somebody should make a ROM hack around this Pokémon. :D
Your primal changing type to Ghost dragon ties in nicely too. Ghost being formless like that of primal space and keeping the dragon typing to represent the sheer power it possesses
Imagine a void....
Oh, so the inside of my mind?
I really only watched this for the speed paint. lol
That was one of the best fan art Pokemon designs I have ever seen. Such a great artistic breakdown of the Pokemon art style. Great video
These designs remind me of EVA - 01 from Neon Genesis Evangelion...
More like Evangelion ANIMA
Idk how people are able to match these so good bruh
*says Charizard is a dragon*
Me: Ha, you wish
I mean mega char x is so...
True
nothing like a flying gecko
Tbh ur design looks ten times better then the origin pallia we got which has no arms and is now a horse
"what existed before space? god?" -shows a hooded figure
-Arceus does not approve with its 1,000 hands.
And 1000 thumbs downs
I want it. Palkia has always been my fav legendary and this just put him miles ahead of everything else
You should get a job in Game Freak...
... unless you don't kill anyone
I'm an artist and this is FREAKING PHENOMENAL!! Such good designs. You're a powerhouse of fantastic information!
Obligatory charizard isn't a dragon comment
This is the only Subjective video that is actually respectful to Pokémon and their design
0:53 "It was a dragon."
No it's not, its a fire/flying. Dratini is a dragon type.
@Michael Mclellan yeah lol
That design for Primal Palkia looks so good and smooth and clean. Really good job, mate.
Every time this man said "Palkia" i cringed harder
I wish artists like you could get the recognition of having their art put into the official games, so much talent could vastly improve an already magnificent game franchise to become so much more.
