Mike reminds me of my grandad. No, he wasn't a retired cop/security specialist working for a powerful drug lord (afaik at least), but he did drive like that in parking lots.
Mike scenes in the show are always great to watch because you have no idea what he’s trying to do while he’s doing it and then he pulls a Macgyver every time.
What makes this such a believably written scene is the fact that Mike has experience working as a parking lot attendant; so it makes sense he knew the machine could be broken in this way.

Lalos steel bumper protected it from further damage. It's kind of ironic and fitting at the same time that Lalo essentially acts like an old-fashioned PI with his tricks and charisma while Mike is an old-fashioned detective, both of whom have killed for their causes.
Love the misdirect with him looking like he's reaching for his gun before him pushing it away to grap them gum. Also poor random civilian dude, imagine calling your insurance about being tail ended at the parking lot exit.
Lalo had an old steel bumper protecting it at least from head on collisions like this one here. The more modern car that got hit had its rear bumper torn off.
Because Lalo was tailing Mike and they were driving in old cars along with the music it reminded me of playing Driver 2 back in the PS2 days. It just had that feel.
With the gate open, the machine wouldn’t be accepting another ticket. Once the gate opens, the transaction is complete and the machine won’t take another ticket until the arming loop is activated with the gate down.

It was smart that Mike waited for another car to be between him and Lalo, because he knew that Lalo would probably just run through the gate if the machine didn’t work for him right away. Probably didn’t expect him to plow the other car out of the way, but it at least bought him enough time to escape.
They mostly did a great job with making sure the cars in the parking lot were 2004 or earlier. Though there were a couple more recent cars, there definitely was a ~2015 Subaru Outback in there.

The way the newer car gets the rear end folded up and bumper ripped off, while the older car barely shows a scratch, much less a dent, reminds me of the time when my parents old Buick station wagon got in a head on collision. Our Buick barely had a dented grill while the new car had to be towed away because the front wheels couldn't turn. Old cars were built like tanks back then, and yes, I know that newer cars are built different for safety reasons; crush zones, impact absorption etc., but that doesn't change the fact that old cars can destroy new cars.
Yeah they are built like tanks, however if the "tank" crashes into something solid at high speed, the driver will be wearing the engine block and instrument panel, as these things have no crumple zones.
