I appreciate how concise the video is, straight to the point on the Nano power issue I was looking into! Thank you!

Great tip!! So usb out on your v-lock to the controller and d-tap to the motor. Perfect.

Recently got the nucleus, and yeah.. huge difference between the 5v usb and 14v d-tap. Much smoother using the d-tap.

Thank you VERY much for this video and information! I was about to go crazy trying to figure out why my Nucleus Nano was so moody… 😂! Now with your solution that I’ve tested it seems to be the answer. I’m using the Rolux handle battery with 14.4V, 10A, 12V3A, 8V3A and 5V2.1A outputs for my BMPCC 6K with a Rokinon Cine lens and the Nano in addition to a small Free World monitor. I just purchase order the D-tap connection cord you advised. Again “Thank you”!

In professional circles and in English we call the "force" used to turn something like a lens "Torque."

I don't currently have a v mount setup so what I did to use the nano with some of my vintage lenses was to use a battery made for rc cars and run that through a buck converter to get a regulated 12v output. So far it's working well. I use a similar battery to run my zoom f4 recorder. Working on designing a 3d printed enclosure for the battery and converter. I'll eventually invest in a proper battery but for now it's working for my needs plus the lipo batteries are pretty cheap.

I put the Nano on the Sony 24-70mm zoom ring and it was not strong enough to rotate. I'll try this!

I ran a micro usb to 7.2V into my Tilta Plate then I found the cheap batteries from Nucleus were not holding a charge and had to switch them out several times a day. At the end of the day I looked at the follow wheel and saw a micro usb port on the wheel and ran a cable to the 5V on the Tilta Plate. Now I just flip a switch and powers up everything I need all at the same time. No more little batteries.

It's the best way to go. Just don't supply more than 5V to the hand unit or it'll fry 🙈

    • @EikonasNet
      @EikonasNet 6 днів тому

So can you power the hand unit via the micro usb port? Tilta says: „No, the Hand Wheel has a strict 5V input limit from the micro usb port. It is only meant for connecting to a computer for software updates.“

Now we just need to find a way to connect the wheel to an external battery for longer use.

    • @dodmedia

The batteries that power the wheel are really inexpensive though, you could buy 5 of them and shoot for 2 days straight

hmm I think your only option there would be to get a C-Fast to SATA adaptor so you can free up the USB port. This guy does a good breakdown of his solution here: ua-cam.com/video/4LoCY9-07I8/v-deo.html

I tried hooking up my nano to a v mount and the screen went dark and now doesn't turn on. Did it overload because of the power or is it just s defective motor and/or cable?

is there possibility, if you use 16V power for motor you also reach range distance of controller? because my friends use it as focus controller from distance on big monitor. and sometimes it have problem to connect. on paper it supports distance up to 300ft, by reality is different ...

    • @dodmedia

Interesting question, I'd need to try it out and see. My guess is that your connection issues are from interference with other devices using 2.4Ghz though.

@@dodmedia i just tested it. even if it is connected to vmount battery on 16V, there is almost no difference. only maybe 1-2 meters. but also body mass make interference. this setup is just not build for far distance control :-/

I will tell you, there are some interference issues. I mounted the wheel onto a shoulder rig and it wouldn't work in one location on the rails, I dont know why but ive read this elsewhere from other people too.
