This is brilliant! I have a home studio and I’m obsessed with filming in anamorphic lenses and had no way to focus without approaching the camera until I found this video! Now I can mount this lil guy on my desk and set a couple distances and violá!
@@Eon1an I have the control handle for the tilta ring and paired it with the motor so the horizontal wheel on the handle was controlling the focus motor. Normally it would be talking to rs2 or rs3 in dji mode but it works in tilta mode any way
@@blackestknights yes, with handle it works, but with nucleus M handle not. besides, when there is no easyrig type suspension, it is much more convenient to operate using the nucleus M handles, because there is an retention for the 1st and 2nd fingers, where the mass of the entire rig falls
Sadly, that is not currently a working part of the software. You can make it work and save lenses, but it's not worth it because they will change it. As must seem obvious, you just enter the distance data from your lens at various points in the dial. You might need to restart the control wheel. It is a lot of faff, but your only option as the lens data downloads don't work either. Basically nothing apart from rotation and AB currently works. A lot of the feature set is currently vaporware.
I'm really struggling to set it up properly with my Sony A7S3, and I'm hugely surprised to find how few videos there are about it. Sorting via upload date, this video is the first in two whole weeks!
My lenses don't have hard stops and it's been a complete faff. I still haven't managed it. And the connectivity to cameras seems simply unfinished. Have you seen all the UI glitches and typos?!
The firmware seems very beta. If you don’t have hard stops you have to do manual calibration, it’s pretty easy. I should have shown in this video. Go to settings, motor, manual calibration. Click calibrate and then manually twist the knob on the motor and rotate it till it is at your minimum focus distance and hit confirm. Then do the same to infinity focus. And confirm . And then it’ll be setup for that lens
Liked and Subscribed! Thanks Lee. Question: I’m using the nano (first one) and I’ve ordered the II. I always run and gun with an onboard mic on my Sony FX2. The rubbing of the plastic gears is SO LOUD when using the Nano. It vibrates through my rig and ruins any onboard sound. Have you noticed this? Any advice? Obviously, if there is a sound person on set it’s better but not for single, one-man-band as I often do.
When you manually calibrate, do you find that the motor releases torque to allow you to reposition between end points? Because mine doesnt, and the torque is not enough to turn some of my lenses. Although I dont have power quite up to the recommented input voltage so I guess that would help. Anyway, this would still count as a bug.
Mine is having a problem calibrating.. once I hold for 3 seconds and it starts to calibrate, it goes at lightning speed and doesn’t seem to stop which seems like it’s damaging the gears since they just keep scratching…any ideas?
Hi! Have you any issues while powering motor from a gimbal? I bought motor and it doesnt works well when it connected via usb-c to rs2 port. (doesnt calibrate at all and at hard stops start to "jiggling" and becomes complete unusable). But when i use powerbank with PD it works well. Is it just mine gimbal problem or the motor isn't supposed to powered in such way?
I tried it on the rs3 pro and it would power it but acted weird like you said. We just powered it off a V-mount. I think there had to be a firmware update because they are suppose to play well together and it’s weird they don’t
I have one of these coming today and look forward to getting it set up. Also, I would like to know when the accessory handle will start shipping, and how much of the Ronin integration is available out of the box. From their website it seems there’s still a lot of firmware development to be finished.
Yeah it feels very beta. I had a couple other glitches with display flickering. But never had any issues with any of the normal focus stuff. There’s just a lot of new things they have never done before and I just assume the next firmware update will solve all these little glitches.
can you run a usb-c cable from the motor to the hand wheel? I set mine up on a bmpcc using a tilta npf battery plate with 12v and 7.4V out I also have portkeys view finder so camera gets 12v portkeys gets 7.4 and the usb A port on the portkeys feeds power to the motor (driving a sigma 18-35 f1.7) if i could run USB-C to USB-C to the handwheel that would have everything running of a single npf and have just one battery for everything.
Quick question about build quality, is the body made of metal or plastic? And if plastic is it rugged or cheaper grade? I decided to get this after using the accsoon fc01. It's body was made of really flimsy cheap plastic and I had two separate units fail due to the very cheap design.
Doesnt work with sony wirelessly currently … you need to connect the motor to the camera with cable that tilta sells and also connect the motor to the controller which is a bummer but until we get an update and as far as costumer support has told me that dont even have an approval from sony yet which means itll be a while which made me return mine

BUT no one mention that motors don’t have back comparability with previous models. N2 motor can’t connect to the m-handle.

Four months later and the functionality is still just super basic. A good way to spot honest reviewers is how they handle this.

I have the same question about running power to the wheel via Vmount...did you find anything answers?
Is it better than the smallrig system?

It’s metal and plastic. Body is some kind of alloy
Any ideas what the hand controller will cost???
Not sure. I can’t find any info on that. I’d like to get one though. I feel like it would complete the fizz
can you switch from AF to MF with the Touchscreen controls? (:
there is an option for it but I was never testing it with autofocus lenses
Thanks for the reply (: It seems to me nobody on youtube has tested this. @@LeeZavitz
nevermind: the Manual describes it as a AF/MF "button" so that should work
