I've always felt that way. In 2006 I had a traumatic death of my first born son Malachi who suffered for his only 12 hours of life on earth. That verse spoke to me 10 years before and I still get choked up and blubber everytime at that verse 18 years later. ❤
i listen to this when im drunk, i listen to this when i cry, i listen to this when im high, i listen to this when i need to just take a moment. best version of this song, and the best radiohead song.
this song sounds like when you feel like everything has already ended for you but you see other people living their lives like they have tomorrow and the future waiting for them
that distorted and delayed piano gives this version a completely different vibe compared to the 2000 release. it’s too raw and human for kid a’s world of analog samples and drum machines
@@tygical it would fit in on amsp, but probably not ir since i dont feel like this really fits the album, although saying that, videotape is a masterpiece similar to this in some ways, so maybe you're right

I suppose a lot of us, myself included, need to hear how broken down thom sounds in this version to truly appreciate that at least one other person has felt as desolate as we all have felt or are feeling. It’s fucking incredible.
I didn’t think I could love this song anymore. 24 years and still blooming. Will Radiohead songs just keep getting exponentially better until they leave us in a state of emotional overload and awe?
It gets hard, and it can stay hard for a long time. I believe in you, you can get through this. The world can be unkind, but we wouldn’t be this sad if it wasnt for all those good times in the first place. If you’re reading this, feeling like I do, just hang on 🖤
This makes me teary every time I listen to it. This specific recording to me captures the acceptance of desolation. The temporary peace you feel from giving up on hope. A feeling that is common with the human experience. Unfortunately this world can’t be ideal all of the time. I’m grateful to have this song as I’ve gone through some of my darkest times.
She kissed Tom’s face, and for a moment he half woke, although he still didn’t quite know where he was; memories and real life were all tangled up inside his mind, and he thought that he was lying on the bare earth, on that first day, fresh-fallen out of London. But he didn’t care, because Hester was with him, holding him tight, watching him, and he thought how lucky he was to be loved by someone so strong, and brave, and beautiful. And the last thing he felt was the touch of her mouth as she kissed him good-bye, and the last thing he heard was her gruff, gentle voice saying, “It will be all right, Tom. Wherever we go now, whatever becomes of us, we’ll be together, and it will all be all right.” - Philip Reeve, A Darkling Plain (Mortal Engines Quartet)
such a shame that the third verse didn’t make it to the final version. so beautiful and powerful.

First song to make me cry in a long time.
My son is autistic. I once got him to sing this to me. Beautiful angel. Made me cry.
while it is perfect on kid a, motion picture soundtrack would of fitted perfectly on ok computer. the tone and lyrics match the album perfectly.

My absolute favorite radiohead song of all time
This is so hauntingly beautiful
I always consider MPS the saddest Radiohead song, the original version kills me, but THAT version kills me more
