This was my wife and mine song. We played it every Sunday morning and whenever we took a ride on the motorcycle. I dropped her off at the SLC airport and surprise her 2 days later at Lake Geneva Wisconsin. She was having a picnic and I started playing this song on my bike. I’ll never forget the look she gave when she realized it was me playing this song. Unfortunately I lost this amazing woman of 39 years to cancer but I always remember the joy this song brought us. RIP Pat❤️
Jeff, I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m glad you’ve been able to still find joy in this song. You must be a very strong person, your wife was indeed lucky to have had you in her life. ♥️
jeff potempa Bless you brother, and your queen. I was obsessed with this song for a couple years when it came out. It’s probably a great way to remember our obsessions. 🙏
Two of the best melodies Jeff ever wrote, both the vocal and the guitar line. It could be twice as long and I wouldn’t bat an eye. This is music to get lost in.
Growing up I was the son of a fundamentalist baptist minister I heard at least once a week about how I would be going straight to hell . It took a while but this song puts a lot of perspective on my life at 66 . Fortunately I was saved by music and now I’m enjoying the ride
One of the best of all time. Significantly beautiful, haunting and a story so similar to my own experience with my stepfather it's unbelievable. Thanks to Jeff and all the Wilco artists, sincerely.
This was the opening song of Wilco’s show in Tilburg (Netherlands) in November 2012. Each time i hear it takes me back to that magical moment in my life , that night at that place i learned what music is and what it can do to people. Thanks Wilco !!
Wilco is so good and their catalog is so deep that this gem barely gets a mention amongst their greatest songs. It, of course, is a top 20 Wilco song. No small feat.
The story behind this song makes me think about our collective existence, and how I know that God is and always will be on the side of love and acceptance of each other, despite our human faults and frailties..
It is awesome like emotions growing up together with every minute of this song. It`s getting louder but not too loud, more instruments are involved more emotions are applied by musicians with every minute. Just masterpiece.
I hadn't access to UA-cam for three weeks and this was the first song I listened to today. It just gets better with every listen. A masterpiece, simple as that.
RIP Pat!!!! I lost my husband and my dad in a very short period of time. One of the memories about my dad that I'm fond of is the two uf us dancing to this song!!!! Take care Jeff! All my love, A!
God. The day I asked my ex out to be my gf, I played this song in the car on the way to the mall. She mentioned how long it was lol. I’ll never forget man. Such good times we shared. I miss having her as a friend more than anything, I just have way too much pride to reach out to her.
Amazing beautiful masterpiece ty Wilco here for Jeff & glen lol !.... ty dudes for all u gave us & continue to give!...... hope to c u one day in person! Lol 👍🇺🇸❤️🔥☮️💯🎶💋🎵🧨

This BAND and in particular THIS SONG are ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! Wilco rules. I am 62 but feel 32 when I listen to Wilco. Thanks for posting this!
I'm 62, as well, and I echo you. Cheers and praise be to Wilco!

Thank you Wilco for existing.
I think about this every time I hear their music.
L'chaim from Jerusalem and Jacova...11
It's like Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead got together... but 100% Wilco. Splendid genius.
It is very Dylan like. But made to be original.
Tweedy has always sung like Garcia. Dylan and the Dead, did get together and everyone hated it. This is like that, but great.
Such an amazing song. Long, simple, thought provoking and beautiful.
I was at this show. Flew all the way from Serbia just to be there, to finally see them live after years of being a loyal fan...Thanks
Amen...from Jacova 11
I was there...L O V E
Have only just discovered this magnificent sound. Wilco are something else.
I was there and I cried (very softly ;)) through most of this song.
One of the best of all time. Significantly beautiful, haunting and a story so similar to my own experience with my stepfather it's unbelievable. Thanks to Jeff and all the Wilco artists, sincerely.
I'm over 50 and just learned about this band 5 years ago. WHY, they're great.
I'm 74 and have been following then since 1994....turned my daughter on to them.

I wish I had been there too, this song is incredible, beautiful and unforgettable
Somethin spiritual , I cant believe music can be so beautiful 😍. Its hard to express feelings that overwhelm the soul when you hear this❤️
I can't get this song out of my thoughts.....DEEP!

Great point and I totally agree. It ages well also. Love this Dutch location spot. Sound is very good.
Top 20?! This is easily in my top 5 or top 3 Wilco songs.
It’s a top twenty of the decade
A song of absolute beauty and wondrous playing
Wilco at their best - sublime
I wish this was seen in the same light as Impossible Germany. Should be played live more often. So incredibly good.
Man I wish they played this live more.
The story behind this song makes me think about our collective existence, and how I know that God is and always will be on the side of love and acceptance of each other, despite our human faults and frailties..
Amen brother!
Exactly.
One of the many amazing songs by Wilco, but maybe even a little extra special. I play it every Sunday morning.
Absolute musical perfection.
Zach Williams great way to describe it.

I was there....Unbelievable and very apart that a band starts with this track...RESPECT!!
Beautiful, heart felt, haunting.
I love this song and performance.
The moment when music ir not art anymore. It's magic.
a wonderful time in my life, i just relived it all - memories can't be taken away
at over 10 minutes this song reveals fresh layers everytime i listen to it. and i listen to it alot. never gets old
It’s the sum of all its parts, riff, guitars, vocals and lyrics, percussion and the keys including a tinkling piano - my favourite.
I hadn't access to UA-cam for three weeks and this was the first song I listened to today. It just gets better with every listen. A masterpiece, simple as that.
The beauty of an aching heart
Audrey Jane Felton, RIP my baby...I crumble when I hear this...seems it's yours somehow.
I’m sorry.
Jeff Tweedy -National treasure
You just want this song to go on and on!
Brilliant!! Keyboards and guitars mixing so well together
Outstanding, very emotional song. Only 24 dislikes even though there should not be any at all. How can you dislike a beautiful song like this.
Saddest song I have ever heard....I can relate.
RIP Pat!!!! I lost my husband and my dad in a very short period of time. One of the memories about my dad that I'm fond of is the two uf us dancing to this song!!!!
Take care Jeff! All my love, A!
The bridge with the piano intro at 9:16 gets to me every time I hear this song...

Life is short, reach out to her.
Call or write and say what you need to say.
It washes through me , it washes under me and over me .
Melancholic perfection .
really beautiful touching melody. Never hear this before. Always more to discover from a truly great artist. Danelectro lead guitar sounds so angelic.
Pure goddamn beauty.
I wish they would play this song more often!
i guess that song is why music is made
I have no words!
This so beautiful...works every morning, too.
I'm back...this is absolutely in Jeff's top Five. Mesmerizing and peaceful.

Nels gets some Jerry Garcia-esque flourishes in this powerful song.
Perfection.
OMG the chicken percussion is next level.
Up there amongst the best.
This is the saddest song I’ve ever heard. Just read the lyrics. Sad and beautiful.
Paul Westerberg wrote a song for the Replacements called 'Sadly Beautiful", incidentally.
Sublime.
Pat is the real hero of this song🍒
Majestic.
thank you for being awesome
Looking forward to seeing Tweedy in Indianapolis soon. Got some perfect tickets. Any ticket would qualify.
Люблю эту группу
i wish i knew even rudimentary Russian. if i did, i could reply, and then tackle the Brothers Karamozov in the original language.
even better than the album version!
magnifique
+gerard guillard are you safe, brother?
You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. An ad in the middle of this.
I like this so much more with the pedal steel guitar sound instead of the xylophone on the "official" recording.
