Thanks for all the love guys! Love to see the theory crafting about the “Great War” being WW1 and WW2. Although there could be room for another Great War to have taken place in between those and 2084. Maybe we should investigate!
And yes, I am very aware that the game is heavily based off of Starship Troopers. Sounds like I need to make a video covering that as well 😊
its cool to see someone talk about super earth, But remember To do your part cause the only thing that can beat the bugs is a HEALTHY ECONOMY
A Healty economy, and FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY!

@@Whiskey_in_NovemberExactly. Anyone that runs headfirst into a stream of MG fire brings it upon themselves...
I have been picking up context clues through dialogue from the NPCs. One of the people in the ship states that she has never seen Super Earth. So I sort of think that a lot of the military is generated and raised off-world, like Mars. And Super Earth is likely a dystopian nightmare like the Hunger Games Capitol.
Great catch! I have wondered this about the lore, if many people are raised off Super Earth.
Interesting considering the original novel involved an uninhabitable Earth
this definitely gives Warhammer vibes "Anything that isn't human is evil, and if you question us you will be shunned by society"
"shunned by society" eh?
Based
But in 40k the aliens want to either rape you, enslave you or eat you. Or a fun mix of the three! The humans in 40k are legit valid in their hatred of the alien as they have shown in that universe's history to betray mankind when given the chance. While in the Helldivers' universe it seems the government is just bonkers with power, they keep re-breeding the bugs and releasing them to keep up an unending war to distract from the troubles at home. The two universe's seem alike until you get into the meat of the two. Still I'll purge some filthy xenos with the guys and blast commie bots as both are an abomination in the eyes of the God Emperor of Mankind!
a common emeny brings people together
So if one doesn’t exist, always best to create one
As far as ive heard we lost original super earth back in the first game, so they just settled on a different planet, terraformed it and just told everyone it was the one and only super earth, it never fell
In helldivers 2 super earth does look nothing like earth, so this theory could definitely have some traction
@@handleonafridge6828It's based on the lose state of Helldivers, which I've been told plays a cutscene of Super Earth being destroyed followed by narration that a new one will be founded, before the campaign resets.
Bro wtf this is actually 1984 kinda stuff, literally rewriting the past making it into truth this games world is amazing

"The planet broke before the Helldivers did! Malevelon Creek Stands!"
Super Earth is in the Sol system, and the training centre is on Mars, safe to assume it is our Earth in reality, but artificially altered in some way, they didn't add the super for no reason.
"Great", "Super", "Ultra", "Mega", and etc - it just propaganda. Isn't it kinda obvious?
@@darausus8315 They had to pick the cheesiest sounding prefix, though. I love it. A work with its tongue not-quite-as-deeply-planted-in-cheek as this one would probably go for "Greater Earth".
all of the landmass is *violently* green on the map view; I think it's called super earth just because they managed to make every corner habitable
@@thebluehat6814I like that train of thought. It's not just Earth. It's SUPER Earth.
@@darausus8315, it isn't just propaganda, there's more to it than that. The "super" prefix has a history of being used to describe something that has been upgraded or greatly enhanced.
The only good earth is a super earth.
Interesting that they seem to put protective shells over the pyramids
This is a great find! I wonder if they worry a helldiver will accidentally throw orbital strike stratagem on top of it
In the second game there are posters showing the pyramids are now a hotel
@@maccaronich !!! This needs its own lore video!
Love the idea the terminids are friendly and we started the war with them lol.
Yeah, in starship troopers (the media that this is very heavily based off of) they lean further into this with the “good guys” essentially being space nazis and torturing bugs for “science” even when they are simply defending their home planet instead of attacking
I mean they do turn into oil when they die...
They threw an asteroid through a wormhole at Beunos Aires with a plasma bug, man I don’t know why you are sympathising with the hivemind that’s only purpose is to kill and expand
@@azap1378 You don't understand Starship Troopers and neither does anyone else here. The bugs attacked first, even in the movie that is the case. Verhoven doesn't understand Heinlen and never read the book. The Terran Federation is not fascist.
In the book the bugs are the antagonists, there isn't even a question. Heinlein wanted to explore the concept of a Stratocratic Republic besiged by existential, inhuman threats.
@@fareflight2029 You don't underdtand the Starship Troopers movie if you didn't understand Buenos Aires was a false flag attack. Do you still believe Spain sank the Maine?
Great time to start this channel cuz lots of newbies like me getting hooked and need to know more 😂
Well I appreciate the love! More lore in tomorrow’s video!
Remember, the Helldivers story was insipired greatly by Starship Troopers. Also put a hint of Star Wars and W40k and maybe even Star Trek (not sure) and probably whatever sci-fi (T2 Judgement day lol?) that had a really messed up aspect just to make it sound so incredibly unrealistic that it's funny.
Considering that the automatons and the bugs will indiscriminately kill civilians I think it's safe to put the federation in the "lesser evil" category.
But the federation is quite happy to murder its own citizens. No doubt they also indiscriminately kill anything resembling non-combatants belonging to all enemies too. Not sure there are good guys here
the setting is definitely not meant to be taken as seriously as the video essayists will take it.
the bugs likely dont understand the concept of a civilian, like in SST and its implied they were at least semi peaceful before super earth started to harvest them for oil
and the automatons are rebels that were increasingly pushed to increasingly extreme measures and augmentation by super earth’s forces
tldr: the lesser of two evils keeps pulling an america and making its own worst enemies
Something started it, and everyone has now done it so much there is no longer any moral highground.
The bugs are just creatures trying to survive, either on the planets that Super Earth colonized or the planets where they're being farmed for their resources like cattle. I don't think they even understand what a civilian is so I don't think they're evil. I kind of wonder if there's a conspiracy with Super Earth using them as a covert weapon since they always seem to break out at areas where illegal research and broadcasts are taking place
The robots are trying to take back planets that Super Earth colonized too, they shouldn't be killing civilians either so they are evil in that sense. Although not really a lesser evil since Super Earth and the Helldivers did the same to that planet that tried to become independant.
Thanks for making this and the other videos! I slept on helldivers for too long and the world is interesting to hear about.
As a brazilian i feel at home in super earth.
So glad to see this get a second game after playing the original 8 years ago
I guess in Helldivers 2 we can expect AT LEAST one more alien species, if not a fourth new one. The automatons are obviously the "Cyborgs" from the last game and the only aliens missing are the "illuminati".
I don't think the automatons are the cyborgs themselves. The reason is that one of the ship npcs said after the cyborgs lost the war Super Earth banished them to a mining planet for 100 hundred years called Cyberstan, which if you look at the galactic map is located in the northwestern region of the galaxy, I think what will happen is the Cyborgs sensing blood in the water will rise up and began to fight the Federation as well.
What if the 4th faction is the rebels we hear about in the ship and the station? I think it would be kinda interesting like imagine them having the same armaments as you and maybe some stratagems like pelican 1, the mechas, arc weapons etc, and they would require a different kind of strategy then bots because they would be a lot more accurate and deadly but also a lot weaker (like a helldiver in terms of hp)
I just like how much the guys look like the Federation soldiers from E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy.
i recall from the first game if the Helldivers loses the campaign they say something about rebuilding a new super earth elsewhere and resetting the campaign. So this may not be the same earth as ours.
a similar reset also happens if the Helldivers win the campaign but i believe the devs said they don't want to do any resets for Helldivers 2.
edit: yeah there's a "a war lost ending" video on youtube where super earth blows up.
Very interesting! This will be its own video for sure. In general, it does seem like Super Earth is more a concept than a particular planet. Also with that, the fact that some of the ship’s crew mention they’d “love to see super earth” one day makes it seem like not everyone is born there.
@@the_backburner seeing as mars is around super earth in the galactic map it does look like super earth is the same earth that we know
The story of a dystopian future where Orange County took over the entire Earth.
The "great War" was ww2...ww1 was called the great War. The second world War was called the second great War. It was referred to as world War 1 and 2 later. They were referring to how humans never had more pride and dedication to their people than in those wars.
Yeah, that was my take on that as well. "The *Last* Great War" does leave a fun openness for the possibility of a third or more World War.
The voting software sounds like a test to see what hobwarts house your in but with canndidates
maybe the lore is (and should be ?) intentionally vague, so we can fill it with whatever works best for us...
Nice video, 👍 keep it coming with the lore please 😊
A couple notes based off what I know from Helldivers 1 and speculation though know that I havent done much research:
The "Great War" could possibly be World War 1, as it was previously known as The Great War. Could also just be a coincidence.
Whenever the community lost a war in Helldivers 1, a cutscene would play where the Admiral (i think?) Would tell you that the remainders of Humanity would make a new Super Earth, and we can see the surviving ships leaving the planet behind. It would be good to know if these abandoned previous Super Earth are considered canon in Helldivers 2, as it would mean our current Super Earth is, most definitely, the original Earth.
I feel the great war may refer to the previous game campiagn being successful
@@honorguard7616 no, for the following reasons:
-The quote we are talking about was written while the First intergalactic war, that being, the one in the first game, was still ongoing.
-Even if we were to assume this was all recorded AFTER the first intergalactic war, that war is referred to as "the First intergalactic war", not "Great war".
-Even if we were to pin all that to semantics, the passage talks about the "last great war on Earth". As far as I can tell, Earth is nowhere to be seen in Helldivers 1, and it is instead Super Earth, our home, that we defend during the First intergalactic war, that being, the first game.
“Great war “ is probably just a reference that there used to be big wars on Super Earth, but there was a long period of peace during which one might expect humans to have grown weak and non-martial. Trying to make it seem like a specific conflict of any importance seems like a huge reach.
I know ingame they refer to the last game's war (citing it when over a automatron planet saying it was 200 years ago or something)@@donkeysaurusrex7881
@@donkeysaurusrex7881 nah man, this simply doesn't add up. This narration or quote is delivered during a timeframe where Super Earth has only begun to fight against those extraterrestrial beings they contacted shortly prior. There are no past records of galactic war taking place on Earth to begin with, and so, this "Great War" they are talking about refers to something that happened before the events of Helldivers 1.
Besides all this, I insist that this is, as far as I'm aware, the only time any of the logs refer to our planet as "Earth" instead of Super Earth. I strongly believe there to be a significant distinction between the two planets, or that maybe anything referring to "Earth" is talking about the planet's history before the planetary government was established. It's hard to say whether or not this "Great war" is supposed to be any particular conflict, but it is clearly implied in the passage that, whatever this war was, it was one of great magnitude that exemplified the fighting spirit of mankind, and that took place before the First Galactic war. It might as well have been the Great War, or one of its (potentially fictitious) sequels.
The more and more you learn about Super Earth, the better it sounds!
2:45 This reminds me of Isaac Asimov's short story "Franchise"; it's definitely worth a read
Managed Democracy sounds like the Russian Federation's 'democracy' 😂
Or the “peoples republic” of North Korea
or the bourgeois "democracy" of every other country on earth, where having capital means you can decide on what the state does
Our Democracy (tm). Totally not a US/EU phenomenon its those bad men with the big hats in other countries.
More like US actually, cause in Russia its more like "why bother with cheating if you can discredit the opposition to the point where they are just sideshow clowns".
Ah yes we can always rely on the good ole human mentality “They Started It” 😂😂
Wow these guys really be on to something !
I agree with the C-1 form tbh...imagine how much healthier we would be if we breeded out stuff like asthma, alcoholism, sickle cell just to name a few
If you zoom in to super earth you will see that mars is there so its safe to assume that its our earth

There is also restricted areas on earth indicating there is still fighting on earth
Issac Arthur sometimes refers to super earths as gigantic earths that have the same gravity. For example if you put an Earth shell around a black hole and wanted the same gravity it would be hundreds of times bigger than our Earth. That's what I always thought of as a super Earth. No idea what those lunatic developers had in mind but if we found one we might think about moving to it and rebuild the pyramids and stuff. It would be almost impossible to exterminate us on a world that big. Transplanting the animals would be a pain though.
It is Earth…but Supper.
Man, this really is Starship Troopers! 😅
Starship troopers and deep Rock galactic had a baby and it's helldiver's
In hell divers 1, the description for the "Knight" smg states its commonly used to terminate wrong-thinkers
Those pesky free thinkers smh
Yeah with more and more releases of these armours I could see more reasons why we're the baddies. although! i do prefer to blow things up a lot
Since the world is also strongly oriented towards the film Starship Troopers, I also think that the propaganda regarding the outbreak of war is the same. Although it is clearly shown in the film that the Bugs attacked, in a short sequence at the beginning it is mentioned that religious colonialists settled in the Bug exclusion zone and were then killed by the Bugs. So it was a deliberate provocation of Earth.
The colonists settled against the will of the federation
I love how people talk about the slaughter at Port Joe Smith as if it was an invasion from the humans;
The Mormon missionaries did not know that Dantana was a bug world, they were fleeing religious persecution. They landed peacefully on what they believed to be an uninhabited world in the bug quarantine zone and set up a small colony that was away from the hive.
The bugs then launched a sneak attack and killed every single colonist, including hunting them down as they tried to flee. Unarmed men women and children who could not fight back even if they wanted to.
Please, do go on about how we "provoked them".
@@GenericProtagonist7according to who? Peaceful settlers. Nah. Could be very different
@@gur262 According to the actual lore of the story, this isn't a case of "Did this actually happen the way it's portrayed?" There's literally a canonical comic book from dark horse that shows you EXACTLY what happened to the colonists in Port Joe Smith;
The colonists swept the entire planet to make sure they weren't intruding on any arachnids, and they didn't find any because the bugs were HIDING UNGROUND intentionally so they could attack anyone who lands, and that still got them all killed. They literally laid a trap, lured in civilians, and killed them.
People trying to claim the bugs are innocent while they literally tear down the walls of a church so they can murder dozens of unarmed civilians is genuinely hilarious, it's so anti human that's it's comical.
It is literally canonical that the asteroid that hit Earth was sent by the bugs that wasn't propaganda that was canonically what happened the thing about starship troopers is that their legitimately is no satire people have just willed it into existence including the director of the movie humans good bugs bad it's really that simple
“After 50 helldivers” lol.
“Extreme democratic structure” is something you don’t hear everyday.
I'm pretty sure the "last great war ON EARTH" is talking about THE great war. Like the world wars.
Thank you
United sta- Super Earth seems like such a great place to live on!
It’s like a knockoff Terran Federation. However, the Federation in Starship Troopers is not dystopian whatsoever. The Mobile Infantry is all volunteer, the entire military is volunteer. There is no conscription in Starship Troopers, even recruiters actively try to dissuade people from federal service. You can go through your life as a civilian, enjoy your rights, and have political opinions, the only thing you can not do is vote.
At least in the book, there are still nation-states in the Federation. And as we saw with the Mormon extremists who ignored a warning from the Federation to not settle Planet K, people are free to leave the bounds of the Federation.
I vote for an event where we choose to stay loyal to super earth and rebels.
Since we see the darkness behind this super earth.
if their was a alien enemy out there we could fight. the whole world would put their petty difference aside and unite for the sake of humaniy... 'super earth'.
I’m new to helldivers but one of the intros reference the ministry of truth from 1984 which produced ministry and war based propaganda
Future people here, we have gotten an official world map of Super Earth and its unification.
It was Sweden. Sweden is Super Earth and Super Earth is Sweden.
I mean living on super earth aint looking to bad
Super earths are also earthlike planets that are more massive than earth.
Are the games part of the same franchise as the books in name only? It seems mostly so.

Even China joined Super Earth. Earth become a very cool place.
Some people need there C1 perms revoked
I want to se the super earth battlefield in gane. (Happens when it is attacked)
Me as well! Although, I doubt the community will allow any army to get that close
@@the_backburnerit would be cool if there is like a secret attack and they try to invade earth

I love SUPER EARTH
Weird they'd add barriers to having kids, considering the total war and all
Think that's what other planets in the federation are for
I think it’s more of, to keep track of any (potential) children, Aka future Helldivers. Think of a census, but always happening. Constant count on the population
I like to take the managed democracy thing at face value and super earth is just the AI desperately trying to interpret the answers it gets from the questionnaires and all the messed up stuff is just humanity being Schizophrenic and Genocidal.
I think earth was destroyed and they got a new planet and named it super
Seems like they need more non-human factions.
idk bro kinda sounds like treason
Basically Starship Troopers.
How so?
@@Danster87 it's pretty clear if you've seen Starship Troopers the film.
@@SavageRush012Only superficially. The Terran Federation is better described as “radical libertarian”. In Starship Troopers, the Federation is not dystopian. Military members are all volunteers, and civilians have all the same rights as citizens with the exception of voting. The Federation actively tries to dissuade people from federal service, even though everyone has the right to volunteer (and to quit at any time, as well) without penalty, save for not being allowed to volunteer again. The federal service in Starship Troopers is only for those who are selfless enough to see it through, and there is no penalty to never joining. In the books, Radchek is shown talking young people like Rico out of joining. Some of that made it into the movie.
Nor is any colonies of Earth or groups of people forced to remain in the Federation. As was shown in the movie with the Mormon extremists, groups are free to ignore the Federation’s warnings. The Federation will not chase after or make war on groups that wish to leave it. People are free to work, live, have children, own property, and worship in any way they see fit. The only times non-Federal Service people are punished is if they harm another, and the punishments are swift and heavy. The heaviest punishments are reserved for veterans and Federal Service members, because they’re held to the highest standard. This is why Rico was flogged for ordering a squad member to remove his helmet during live fire exercises.
@@TheSpicyLeg You forgot non citizens in Troopers also had a much harder time obtaining reproduction rights than full citizens. The state may discourage military service but their system is set up in such a way that service is the fast track easy method. The Terran Federation and Super Earth are both Authoritarian.
@@SavageRush012 “Easy”? Absolutely not. It was the hardest life path imaginable. The “easy” path was that of Rico’s father, a wealthy businessman and civilian. He had amassed great wealth and was scornful towards federal service as little more than parasitism and for inferior people who would otherwise be unemployed.
The Federation is only authoritarian insofar as every government is to some degree. Our government doesn’t allow me to not pay taxes. I never signed up to join it. I never agreed to it. But if I refused, it would eventually send men with guns to my home, wouldn’t it? In the books, the Federation is viewed as a previously necessary organ that outlived its usefulness, and those that completed service, losers who put on airs. That all changed when the Arachnids attacked. That’s the story of Starship Troopers, in reality.
So the easiest way to explain this is super earth is just a nicer version of the imperium from warhammer 40k

You're talking about effective propaganda, and monarchs and communists used the same strategies. It's more of an authoritarian thing rather than a fascism thing.

Us. But Super. But seriously; Democracy is also a form of totalitarian dictatorship if not restricted by individual rights as in the US Constitution. "Majority Rule" is still rule, and rule is authoritarian. Liberty and Individual Rights are *limits* on democracy. Majoritarian tyrrany is still tyrrany. Minoritarian Tyrrany is what is easy to point at and describe (monarchies, oligarchies, theocracies, etc). But the great danger in the West is not minoritarian tyrrany- we all reject that. It is majoritarian tyrrany. We must maintain the REAL form of classica liberal government: The Republic.
Sounding pretty undemocratic in this video...

This is why 1st amendment rights exist to avoid these circumstances issues. A county is only truly free if isn't afraid of different variety of ideas out in the open and not be in fear of being punish for it as long as it's a good intentional cause. German FDP was close to irrelevancy and got into government via personalized ads that tell you what you want to hear. At least according to German John Oliver copy Jan Böhmermann. I think a hilarious aspect is that their existence as libertarian with freedom as their main motto, but in reality being mainly pro car, made freedom almost a dirty word. They didn't do shit for my freedom to ride a fast e bike or any bike. Their freedom just means pro car.

The idea of such elections came from Isaac Asimov's story.
Again, If they can get super creative, The Super Earth would be different from Actual Earth. A lost colony, if you will. And the ultimate antagonist would be Earth leading a federation of Aliens.
