What I like about the movie, it's not the typical cool kids vs nerds movie or kid vs bully. It's just a story about a bunch of very talented kids forming a band to impress this girl.
Well it was just one trying to impress the girl. IMO the band was a lot more important in his life than her, as they showed talent. She had nothing to offer and she wasn't really into him. The movie would be a lot better if it were about her giving up moving to London to stay with him (and the band) in Dublin. That would even open room for a sequel where the entire band actually move to England a few years later to record an album or something like that. Older brother could turn to be their manager. But he just abandoned all his friends and the music itself to follow her dreams... it should be completely the other way around.
Nothing great about the ending.. Its was the worst part that he just abandoned all his friend... He dont fucking about his friend that support him.. Ass kid
I love how they added enough “mistakes” to the recording that they didn’t sound like a group of professionals but rather a group of talented kids jamming together.
There is one awesomely acted moment in this scene, which does not get talked about a lot. At 0:36, Conor goes back to the microphone, full of confidence. Then, just a few seconds later, Raphina gives him a look and a little smile. So tiny, but so powerfully acted by Lucy Boynton! At that moment, I think, Raphina has been won over by Conor.
I love this song because it's so imperfect. Some of the bass and drumming is off, and the mixing is pretty bad, but that's the point, cause the band is finding their footing. You can tell it's on purpose cause Drive it Like You Stole It is much more well-made
Such a brilliant film. All the homages to different trends and band looks throughout was such fun. This vid just shows how much care they put into making it feel authentic like the 80s. I love it!!
Sooo fuckin underrated this movie. I would never have found out about this movie if i don't discover it on netflix back then. All the superheroes movies that came out overshadowed this movie.
I knew I was going to love this movie when they dared to our Lucy in some truly awful 80's hairstyles. You will almost never see love interests get styled right for 80's movies.
I love how he smiles at the end when she does the head-bob to the "oriental' riff! It's just how he described it to her when he was explaining his vision for the video! Also, the fact that he storyboarded the whole video shows how committed he is to his art!
The chorus is actually really good, 'Shes so indecipherable Shes holds the key to the missing code Just the thought of her touch my mind explodes, So desirable, time never will unfold Oh Oh OH THE RIDDLE OF THE MODEL'
lyrics : She's standing on the corner Like an angel in disguise And as I look a little closer She's got dangerous eyes She tells me she's a model Of international reputation She's lightning in a bottle But there's a stipulation She's so indecipherable She holds the key to the missing code Just the thought of her touch, my mind explodes So desirable Time never will unfold Oh, oh, oh The riddle of the model The odds are against her In this little city She's got a taste for adventure And she knows she's pretty She's the face of an angel And the heart of a sinner And if you play with danger How you gonna win her? She's so indecipherable She holds the key to the missing code Just the thought of her touch, my mind explodes So desirable Time never will unfold I'll never unravel The riddle of the model
This sing nails the essence of that British "New Romantic" sound and style that were so prevalent in the mid-80s when this film was set. Enjoyed the movie immensely--superb coming of age story.
I hope you have had the chance to explore all the good music of today! If not, here are some of picks that you might enjoy: Geographer, LCD Soundsystem, The Arcade Fire, Kishi Bashi.
Just watched this for the first time on a long-haul flight home from Edinburgh. Grew up in Chicago, not Dublin, but the way it mirrored my own musical taste's evolution in this era just made me smile the whole time. Well done.
I had the DVD for this movie for years and kept putting off opening it - finally did - and WOW - kicked myself for waiting so long to watch it - its an awesome movie.

One of the best movies you've never seen. Complete nonsense that it did't get an academy nod!
A but late but absolutely correct.

One of the greatest music videos of the 80s
I know the message was about them finding their own sound, but this track blows the closing number out the water. They should've kept this style.
True
It was their Duran Duran phase.
this is better than all the new pop songs coming out today
