As long as only the richest among us are allowed to legally grow and sell weed, end the monopoly and let the market figure it out. But when you purposely take the middle and lower class out of being able to be legal well this can be expected and will continue. Stop punishing the little man!!!

Not only being positioned well for climate change, Michigan allows one to grow up to 12 marijuana plants. The 2018 U S Farm Bill (signed by Trump) defines hemp. Any male cannabis, seed, or flower with .3% or less Delta 9 THC is hemp. THC-A, Delta 8 THC cannabis is hemp absent Delta 9 over .3%, is legally hemp. Delta 9 is produced by curing cannabis. Fresh cut cannabis is loaded with THC-A, which thru curing, produces Delta 9 THC. Farm Bill states that hemp and any derivatives of hemp, are totally legal. This will (hopefully) soon be common knowledge. What are the states gonna do when the citizens become aware and then pushback?

  • @Rashiedamichelle

To give a short answer. Black markets still exist because prices at dispensaries are too high partly because local governments are greedy when it comes to taxing legal dispensaries and joe down the street that is selling top shelf is able to sell for less because he’s not paying taxes. When a consumer is on a tight budget and is in need of a product the choice is clear. 😂

Marijuana a hallucinogenic drug!? 🤣 Isn't it funny how people just make things up?
Let me give everyone a hint as to why the black market isn't dying, at least in my state. I can't even count the number of people I know who even when marijuana becomes recreational here next year won't have anything to do with the legal market. Why? I don't know about everywhere, but at least where I'm at the state is trying to say that if you use marijuana, even medically, you can't buy or own guns. Well, I can guarantee you 100% of gun lovers won't have anything to do with legal marijuana, and just for that reason. So it seems to me the black market won't be going anywhere. The price wars should be fun though.

The anti-legalization guests miss the greater point. The war on drugs, especially regarding cannabis, has been an utter failure going back many decades prior to legalization of medical cannabis in CA. It was a completely disastrous public policy. Are their issues with the recreational cannabis market? Of course there is and one would expect that to happen with anything of this sort but ESPECIALLY when there are a hodge-podge of state regulations and then the criminalization at the federal level which creates more costs, confusion and, perhaps most importantly, the development of even more virulent illegal markets in criminalized states. Going backwards to the old policies that clearly failed for longer than I’ve been alive (60something) is quite simply idiotic. The point is to continue to refine legalization on all levels so to improve safety, costs, availability, social equity, etc. It’s what you do with any public policy, for God’s sake. Personally, I don’t enjoy the THC high so I don’t have a dog in this fight. But I don’t like sticking with very stupid policies that have proven to have miserably failed and have caused a lot of unnecessary legal damage to so many. Last point, the former DEA guy stated an absolute bald-faced lie about cannabis having more carcinogens than tobacco. That is almost outrageous in its falsehood as I am sure he knows. I am sure that smoking weed is not great for one’s lungs but there is virtually no evidence that it is carcinogenic at all. And, if it were true, it would not mean THC itself is carcinogenic. So edibles containing THC would be a safe alternative to smoking.

People who were against legal weed all along are still waging their little holy war using government and taxation out of spite and petty sour grapes. Now declaring the whole thing has been a failure, without acknowledging why, and their own role in intentionally fomenting that situation.
Keep taxes low and consistent and you'll have a smooth flow of revenue. Abuse consumers and tax payers, they WILL vote with their feet and/or make other arrangements. It's really that simple. Bring the entire industry into the mainstream and shut down those who operate outside the law, same as you would any other business. As long as it stays in this weird place, the gaps will be filled by the "black market".

Having my first high Spring ‘71. If you were hooked up with product grown by someone who knew how to grow, it was as good as anything in America today. Our world lost a good number of landrace strains when Nixon declared war on drugs (Cannabis, in essence) and Ron and Nancy told everyone to “just say NO!”. I remember Agent Orange from all across SE Asia. Paraquat throughout Central America (attempted murder of any cannabis user).
I tire of hearing my generation’s children and grandchildren spout erroneous assumptions of cannabis and it’s potency.
I say it again. FREE the WEED. Allow personal gardening of cannabis with most restrictions lifted. Once one discovers a few tips on growing cannabis, it’s not that complicated.

Truly legal marijuana couldn’t sell for five cents a POUND because it’s so easy to grow anywhere and it can grow wild by the thousands of acres. It’s just too basic an item to sell for much at all, so when you overtax such an abundant item, of course you’ll always have a black market. It should be completely deregulated and left to the discretion of the People.

Make marijuana completely legal to grow and consume without any government involvement. Marijuana is easy to grow. Let people grow their own marijuana and selling it becomes obsolete. I don't know anyone who is concerned about the safety issues about consumption other than having marijuana laced with pcp, fentanyl, or any other chemical like pesticides. Growing your own which is extremely easy, you can be assured what you are consuming.

One of your Ronnie Raygun’s best quotes ,” The most frightening words you will ever hear, I’m from the Government and I’m here to help” . You take a simple proposition, i.e. growing a relatively easily cultivated , back yard herb, but then add legality, regulation market manipulation and of course profiteering and then it is no longer simple at all. Why not just let the people work it out for themselves? No, that wouldn’t work , Governments don’t operate that way.
