Well this one and the movie The American president starting Michel Douglas and Annette Benning, I swear I have seen it so often that I can pretty much quote every sarcastic line in the movie.
Are you joking? Her accent is so over the top it's laughable. All the other women have more natural accents than her weird Gone with the Wind breathy embarrassment of an attempt.
@@headphonic8 bless your heart, I'm from the south and this accent is spot on. Different areas of the south sound slightly different. For the area her character is from, the dialect is accurate.
@ann I 😂😂 This is exactly what I've been saying for the past 3 months! Ouiser was my favorite character on this movie. One of the best movies ever made.
I'm Ouiser. I just haven't been in a very bad mood for forty years yet. It's only been thirty for me, but I'm gettin' there. My mood's not likely to improve anytime soon!
This is my favorite movie. It came out the day I was born. I quoted this entire scene. I am not ashamed. Steel Magnolias turns 31 on Sunday, and so do I! 😁😁😁
Every time this movie is on, I always say each line just before the actors. My relative says. " you have this movie memorized? "Most of," is my reply. I do it to a few others as well. He says, " you should have been an actress! You have a knack for remembering dialogue." True!!
Ouiser was a friend I’d love to have! A grumpy old lady. She’s supposedly angry at everything and everybody, but a fine person at heart. And Shirley MacLaine was only 54-55 when she made this, but that wasn’t a spring chicken back then. I don’t think she was made to look older, she just didn’t have her hair dyed red for the role.
Shirley is my favorite n tells it like it is . Dolly well is a doll in this movie Sally really got to me it reminded me of what health scares I've been through with my mother n what she saw n suffered. I'm glad my mom never had to lose me , Watching my mom @ my bedside @ another surgery, I was keeping her calm .
I love it 🥰 especially that’s wonderful vintage vintage movie 🍿 especially with Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton , Shirley McLaine, Sally Fields and other various people. I remembered when Shelby’s get her haircut 💇 especially when Truvy’s when Shelby’s been driving nails up her arms when she’s tells them it’s part of her diastyms especially when she’s talks about she’s said that her Mom going to give her one of her kidneys. I remembered when she’s died at the end especially they’re at her funeral ⚰️. I remembered when Truvy talks about when Arninielle says The Lord Works In Mysterious Ways. Jennydebrier
So you've probably only been in a very bad mood for a few years. I was just a little younger than you when I started. Fifty-two now. I'm not crazy, either. I've just been in a very bad mood for thirty years!
Poor Ouiser. I wish someone woudl have done a Prequel on what her life was like before she came to Chickapin Parish. Maybe she live din New Orleans and her Husbands treated her badly and her Children don't want to be around her because she scared them. As for Julia Roberts, I heard she was from Atlanta. You now what's so quirky, both Ann Wedgeworth (RIP) (Aunt Fern) and Olympia Dukakis both were on Proctor & Gamble Soaps. Ann as Lahoma who was married to a Man named Sam on Another World and Olympia on Search For Tomorrow where she played Dr. Barbara Moreno. Julia Roberts auditioned for a Role on All My Children as Dr. Cliff Warner's Sister (Played By Peter Bergman) but lost to Melissa Leo.
If she wants to be in a bad mood, then why not? It's hard to deal with everything. She has money but relationships in her life didn't work out even though she probably really tried to make things work. That's hard.
She's in a bad mood because she had to watch her own daughter die in 'Terms of Endearment'. That would put anyone in a bad mood. It was a death scene much like Julia's Roberts' death scene in this movie...except it was Shirley and Debra Winger as mother and daughter instead of Julia Roberts and Sally Field.
On Guiding Light there was a Boudreau Family and wouldn't it be hilarious if Shirley McClaine appeared on The Show as a Distant Relative. They'd have to go through legal procedures but it would be fun. Wasn't she just too much on Downtown Abbey.
This is an older comment but Ousier's name is French. As you probably know the French-descended Cajuns are a big community in Louisiana. If I remember rightly her name is close to "bird" in Ftench. ("L' ouiseau.")
The South is a big place. Louisiana and Texas folks have thick accents that still don't sound quite the same even though they're right next to each other. Virginia , the Carolinas and Georgia are all coastal states yet VA/NC is a bit different from SC/GA accents.
Poor Quiser. Her husbands were bastards and her kids are very selfish and possibly waiting just to get her money when she dies. I dont blame her for being in a bad mood for 40 years.
The casting and acting in this movie was near perfection. The writers were pure gold ... this is perhaps the most quotable movie ever.
I agree!! Me and my Mom quote it often 😂
Well this one and the movie
The American president starting Michel Douglas and Annette Benning, I swear I have seen it so often that I can pretty much quote every sarcastic line in the movie.
@@marycanary That’s a great one, too
I always quote the line Clairee says “the only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize”
ever!! and i know every line..it drives everyone...crazy...
Love how "Ouiser" has now become a mood as time has gone by. A testnent to Shirley McClain and her performance.
*testament
@l.a.3479 Thanks...I was most likely in a rush when I was doing that and didn't catch myself
Julia Roberts was so comfortable talking in her southern belle voice
Shell A. Well I think Julia was originally from Georgia.
Are you joking? Her accent is so over the top it's laughable. All the other women have more natural accents than her weird Gone with the Wind breathy embarrassment of an attempt.

Lol Wheezer is my idol....I absolutely love that woman

Ouiser
Yes! 😁
“Ouiser” “WUT” gets me every time 😂
I'm pretty sure I was born a Ouiser lol 😂
So what who cares about age
It isn't healthy Ouiser. Lol

This is one of my favourite movies of all time.
Love these women and the camaraderie. Their chemistry is great on screen.
Roberts deserved her nomination for Best Supporting Actress but MacLaine deserved it more.
She may have been the 6th in the final tabulation.
Honestly the whole cast probably deserved a nomination. The Oscar's really snubbed this film. Wasn't even nominated for Best Picture.
@@PowerDiva True. And I'm still baffled by the omission of Sally Field in the Best Actress nominations
@@attyjosh she really deserved one
If the SAG Awards had existed in 1989 (The first one was in 1995), they could've easily been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.
"I met an old friend of yours!"
"Oh~?"
"Owen Jenkins?"
"OH."
My god I love this woman, she reminds me of my own granny
Olympia was such an attractive woman always loved her silver trademark hair😍🥰
"THE ONLY REASON PEOPLE ARE NICE TO ME IS BECAUSE I'VE GOT MORE MONEY THAN GOD"!!!!
Well I like you Quiser AND not because you have more money than God
Strike!!
This is the level of wealth that im aspire to have

my all time favorite. ohhh weezer is one of the best characters ever
This was one of the BEST movies ever........and Wheezer was my favorite character.
Her mood is called “menopause”.
My favorite character is always Annelle, played by Daryl Hannah. She showed how shyness can be overcome, even though Anelle was quiet in this part.
In a bad mood for 40 years dang! 😂😂😂
THE MOST ICONIC LINE IN THE MOVIE!!!! 😂😂😂👏👏👏
Happy birthday Shirley 🎉🎉🎂🎂❤️❤️
Shirley Maclaine's southern accent is so satisfying to listen to lol
Much better than the rest. I hated how Julia Roberts sounded.

The 1989 Oscars missed this nomination.
Best Supporting Actress: Shirley MacLaine
What an excellent cast and excellent movie.
First time I saw this movie, I didn't recognize Shirley MacLaine! What a great role
I always thought I was like Shelby but I’m becoming more and more like Wheezer as I’ve got older 🤣🤣
Shirley is my favorite n tells it like it is . Dolly well is a doll in this movie
Sally really got to me it reminded me of what health scares I've been through with my mother n what she saw n suffered. I'm glad my mom never had to lose me , Watching my mom @ my bedside @ another surgery, I was keeping her calm .
Adore Julia's Southern accent! 😁

I love this scene but you can obviously tell Shirley's lines are ADR-ed. They just sound off...maybe it's the audio.
