      It's more common than one might think. Most of the time when solid surface countertops are installed, there is scrap. You're going to pay for it regardless because generally you have to buy the slab, so most people who remodel their countertops have the countertop people finish the edges of the scrap. I've come across a few in garage sales and thrift shops over the years. They are excellent for pastry dough! :)

    French guy here: For all the beautiful lovelies here willing to make crêpes at home I would suggest using a smaller pan and most importantly put a good amount of batter ;) Also, make sure your pan doesn't stick, really important so you can flip your crêpe in the air like a boss !

    • @DumbestDumbFool
      @DumbestDumbFool 4 роки тому +16

      you can flip crepes? Now that's something I'd never imagine before.. all the crepes in my region (south east asia) and I believe in all eastern side of asia is some sort of crispy crepe, where the method on cooking is similar to crepe, but they let it sits longer and let it get crispier to the point that it does sticks to the pan, and they had to use some tools similar to teppanyaki spatula to s-crepe (I meant scrape) it off the pan (and it's still a whole crepe with no hole, now that I thought about it, the more I'm amazed by it).. it's fine delicacies, similar idea to egg rolls with fillings in it, but more lenient in the size of the fillings.
      IOh, talking about the difference in crepe, we also had similar snack to crepe in this video, and it's called dadar gulung. It's uses different batter i believe, but it has the same idea, thin batter cooked to be edible but not really hard yet. Dadar gulung has coconut shaving cooked and simmered in brown sugar fillings, making it a really fun snacks with different texture, and it looks similar to the towel Emmy made before she puts the powder stuffs on, but smaller in size.

I have always made my crepes on a gas stove, and when I went to stay at my daughters for a week after my last grandson was born, she begged me for crepes. They have always been her favorites (stuffed with cream cheese, golden sugar, vanilla and a bit of cherry pie filling). I tell you, making crepes on an electric stove is a real learning experience, even if you've been making crepes forever! @@andgummybears it's not just family planning. Birth control pills can really help girls / women with their hormonal imbalances and they can make life a great deal easier for them. They are especially helpful during menstruation, and can make periods a lot less painful, less heavy, and less emotional, where they often can cause issues in everyday life. And I think it's very important for people to not be afraid to talk about it because we should not be ashamed of some stupid, necessary bodily function.

    I scrolled pretty far down to see if anyone spoke about this, but apparently not, so. In the north-west quarter of France (more specifically Normandie and Bretagne), crepes (made with wheat flour) and galettes (savoury, made with buckwheat flour) are very, very popular and traditional. So, they developed specific tools to make them. They use a “bilig” (bea-league), or pilig, a round heated pan/griddle (nowadays it’s electric) and a toothless rake (rozell) to spread the batter (because you can’t move the pan, it’s too heavy). Both words are breton words. The system is used in most crêperies and is pretty common everywhere in the world now :)
    And don’t worry Emmy, your first attempts look like about anyone’s first crepes, mine often still look like this because I find them more interesting to eat than perfectly round ones !
