I believe Nike intentionally uses low quality materials in their non-performance shoes because most hypebeasts/shoe collectors don't care about quality. They'll wear the shoes a few times before jumping to the next trend
I hope that isn’t the case…
This is why I only use New balance shoes since middle school I'm 37 now
Excellent video! My biggest problem with navigating the current landscape with most products is that terms like 'Premium' and 'Quality' have become a way to deceive the consumer. Corporations have slapped that branding on everything to the point it is meaningless. Companies like New Balance actually still make a Premium offering in their heritage line.

I’m wearing different NB for the last decade ( 990v5, 574 classic, 997) as well as I’ve got Nike air max, adidas pure boost, ASICS tiger onitsuka, converse and among all of them NB sneakers are my number one to hit the road!!!

I like how you say "these shoes still look decent" while they look beyond beat up.
I mean, yes NB are superior to Nike or others quality wise. If I take a Nike as my main dog walking shoe, meaning park walks, forest.. they will die within 3 months. And have holes in them and everything. While my 990v3 held on for about 15 months. And still no holes! But the cushion has completely been beaten leaving them quite flat, the uneveness of my legs has become quite visible as the rubber outsole of the left shoe is nearly gone and the right shoe is fine..
But for healthy feet, they are at their end. Because I like my feet, knees and back to remain healthy. Which they wont if I wear my shoes until they are far beyond beat up.
Decent is subjective.
And may I recommend some quality insoles. I've used Superfeet for years and highly recommend. Not cheap but super durable and comfortable.
@@CoyoteSharp well if the midsole has lost the cushion a new insole wont add a lot too.
I also walk quite a bit with the dog so its not to the car kind of walking.
But my uppers look closer to your new pair when the shoe is beaten than the old pair. They dont lose their shape.
Maybe my foot fills up more space in the upper to keep them full.
I always go with a 1-1 fit for my summer size. During winters my feet get .5 size smaller. I heard that this helps with the creasing in the toebox but for me its mostly because my think ankles just pop out of any shoe that is any bigger, while a 1-1 fit just remains on my foot.
The 990v3 did stredge quite a bit. I got a new pair. Same size, if I put them next to eachother they look the same. But the old one feels roomier.

So I’ve found that overall the heritage NBs (made in USA/UK) run big - probably a half size bigger than the average sneaker (including NBs standard line).
I didn’t notice much size difference between the 996 and 990v4. Maybe the 996 run a smidge smaller but not enough to really make a difference.

New Balance sneakers 👟 made in USA and UK are definitely better quality, unfortunately the quality is going down little bit recently. NB's made in USA/UK are even better quality from about 10 years ago with better leather and better fabrics.
I hope that isn’t the case but I wouldn’t be surprised. I found that to be true (anecdotally) with another shoe company I really like, allen edmond.
I’m curious to see if my new pair of 996s hold up and age as well as my old ones did.
Quality control has gone down drastically seemingly ever since their partnership with Teddy Santis and influx of releases.

The 99X models are the ones that stand out. Made in the US or UK have better materials and better craftsmanship. NB's Asian made sneakers are better than most other brands' Asian made shoes, but wont last as long as the MiUSA and MiUK sneakers.
Yeah the 99x series is very classic. Only non-heritage NBs I've worn have been running shoes and they've been very satisfactory.
