    I’ve followed a similar selection over the yrs. The peg 40 has been my go-to for daily runs, including trails; but, I find myself digging out my old adios 8 and TS 8! Out of the plethora of midsole foams out there, the lightstrike pro hits the sweetspot for me - not sloppy soft (Rebel 4), not jarring firm (hyperion)…. and, been trying to find info on that upcoming SL, and the new adios. (Gotta try that supernova rise, but not a peba fan at all…)
    Def, w/out a doubt, you’ve got a unique channel w/insightful commentary. One-of-a-kind. Many thanks!

    I'm incredibly glad you've found a hack to make a productive peace with my favorite fast/race shoe (AP3).
    In all other shoe classes I consistently found the needs of my running mechanics to almost completely overlap with yours and it was a continued source of wonder to me that my second skin, the AP3, didn't work for you. But then, you never took issue with anything but its upper, the fit of which may vary partly or completely independently of the weight- and energy-distributive aspects of the midsole, which you commended to begin with. Kudos and best regards.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому

      The last (fit) midsole and outsole of the AP3 are absolutely outstanding and I’ve always felt that, even back in 2022 when I got my first pair. However, that upper…
      The good thing is the AP4 and A9 uppers looks very clean and they solved the issue. The new celermesh on the TS10, that has also been seen on the Evo C, is also very good. So happy days ahead for Adizero uppers.

    I'm a mostly Saucony runner, but I run in other brands as well (Adidas, Puma, Asics). The best thing with Saucony is that their models (trail or road) work great for me, they never gave me any troubles, never. I can't say that for other brands. Saucony/Adidas (T20, B12, E/S/P3) is in my rotation during spring/summer/early autumn, and I run in Pumas/Asics' (VN2, DN2, NB3) during winter. Nike shoes (Pegs) have been notoriously bad for my knees.

      A connoisseurs rotation with the distinction for summer/autumn! Very interesting. A couple of questions.For you, what additional value does the Boston 12 give you over ES3 in summer? Or is purely a variety of thing?
      In the winter does the VN2 offer enough support on longer runs or would you consider the MN3 on its release? Interesting you are yet to get the Superblast which given your choices seems like a natural fit?
      Personally, I’m going to watch Chris review the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 once it’s released as that is a racing shoe I’m excited about if it has enough width ie isn’t super narrow thing Metaspeed narrow!

    • @smagic614
      @smagic614 Місяць тому

      @@michaelgriffiths305 The ES3 is more comfortable, more versatile than the B12. With B12 I have to be careful even about socks choices. B12 excels in track/tempo/upper tempo paces, while the ES3 covers pretty much everything. The best thing about Puma is their Pumagrip compound which I rely on to lead me safely through wet/freezing conditions. The VN2 is OK for shorter distances up to an hour. I'm eyeing MN2/MN3 already, although the DN2 can also substitute the MN2 for those easier sessions.

    Your analysis of the Peg Premium was really insightful. I think you are right to point out the innovation in the shape of the air bag. I’ve seen a few videos on the shoe that seem to miss this. We will have to wait and see if the shoe is actually good or not, but this innovation does seem to open up the possibility of a rockered shoe with an air bag. That could be a really interesting ride.

      It's pretty much as good as it gets. It's very light weight, the toebox is wide for a relaxed fit (the rest of the shoe is still snug), the midsole TPEE foam has the best balance of comfort and durability for long distance running, and the Continental outsole grip is simply unmatched. The only slight issue is the not very pliable upper, which is solved by good socks as mentioned in this video.

    Great Stuff :) Loving the channel!! My rotation over the past year has moved away from Asics and towards Adidas and Saucony. I use the Endorphin Speed 3's as a daily, easy run shoe as though not overly aggressive... The nylon plate and PWRRN PB foam give me great stability and a little pop. Use Boston 12's and Adios Pro 3's for faster/longer efforts. Lightstike 2.0/Pro is great for slightly heavier runners for the stability and energy return for me! Soaks up miles with ease... Never been a fan of Zoom X for my own needs and i find Nike's product quality to be questionable at best, especially for the price. But that's just my opinion of course! Good luck in the chase for a 5KM improvement over the summer!

    Great discussion, as always. My last dozen or so training blocks had been in rotations that included the Boston shoe brands that had gotten me to Boston many times (i.e., NB, Puma US, Reebok, Saucony, Topo). Recently, after having picked up the SL, the Boston 12, and the Pro 3 for a song at my local Adidas outlet, I have been putting more miles into these shoes, and have been enjoying them. When my current Boston brands reach end-of-life, I may transition to Adidas just to see how they work for me. I'm intrigued by the upcoming Pro 4.

    Rotation for remainder of this marathon block, and probably my Chicago block. Novablast V3 (outdoor pair), Novablast V3 (indoor pair). Tempo Next%. Takumi Sen8/Puma Deviate Elite V1, AF V2 and racing in the AF V3. Might throw on the AF V1 for a 5k or 10k this summer. But that probably will be 95% of what I wear.
    Strangely enough, as much as I HATE the Boston 12 heel lockdown and upper in general, the Takumi Sen8 works for me. And I think it comes down to the heel not being rock hard stiff, which allows the heel to conform to the hell bone when I use the entire eyelet chain and ratchet down the laces, to the point I get lace bite, but I've done longer 20k efforts in the shoe without issues when worn occasionally.
    Strongly considering the TS 10, since my TS 8 is over 400km but still going strong.
    Given the perspective you provide, you will continue to gain traction, since a lot of You Tube is lacking in substance...

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому

      The Takumi Sen has always had more of a “pocket” in the heel. It’s especially prevalent in the TS10. Also, as you said, it’s not super stiff. So it’s always had great heel lockdown (for an Adizero shoe).
      I’ll also be rotating in some other shoes, easy/daily trainers and I still have some stuff I want to cover with the MSEP, VF2/3 and Pro 4. Core rotation to be is just what I go back to and/or start with.
      As always, thank you for the support and kind words. 🙏🏻

    Really interested in that fast-5K plan! Might try follow it to the best of my ability 'cause I need to build speed (18:40 would be dreaming though, haha). I have one third of that rotation (the wonderful AP3!), and holding out for other options besides the Rise before I pull the trigger on a new daily trainer (namely, SL2 and Peg 41). TS10 is never coming here, sadly, so a two-shoe rotation will have to do. Alternatively, I could add a speedier daily trainer option. When's a good time to retire shoes btw? (e.g. Peg 39) Keep up the good work!

    I remember this channel having less than five hundred subscribers. I said back then that you would have been an excellent college professor.
    Your conversational style of delivery and tone is pleasant to the ears. Plus you have a knack for articulating technical details and ideas with clarity.
    On another note. Does the Injinji toe socks eliminate the pressure on the two lowest eyelets on the AP3? I've tried both going TTS 9.5 US and going half size up, and I can still feel the fused plastic plate underneath. I don't want to butcher the shoes like the solutions posted on reddit 😂

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому

      The toe socks aspect of the Injinji socks have no bearing on the improved fit of the AP3. However, the material Injinji uses on the synthetic socks it great. That makes the difference.
      The grip of the material on the inside of the AP3 and the little extra cushion make a world of difference on those eyelets for me. I no longer need bandaids there. Individual results may vary, though it worked for me… even when I have minor bunion flareups.
      The toe sock aspect of the Injinji sock helps with blister prevention for me (I’m very prone to them in hot/humid weather). So I’ve been using them for nearly all of my runs this past 40 days or so.

    This is something related to me, I never ran a marathon, or even close to marathon distance.
    Back then I used to run 5k everyday without structured training whatsoever. Then I start to get more into that by :
    1. Watching your channel about shoes.
    2. Buying some of the shoes and test it out
    3. Buying Coros Pace 3 watch
    4. Finding plan that can suits me in Runna App
    Im a beginner in 5k training hence I dont even has anything and I am now 5 weeks into it and all i can is im super into it. The plan is not too hard for me nor it is too easy, sometimes it can be challenging!
    Im interested in your plan as well. 18.40 is superfast, I am on 22.04 time trial and would like to bring to 20-21 and felt good haha.
    And shout out to those injinji socks! Thats all i have been using since even before all this running, all I can say is once u used them, its hard to change.

      But some question that I have, yes now my goal is to complete my first 5k plan, and I do have a half marathon goal in mind maybe end of next year!
      The question;
      1. should i increase the plan to 10k or keep bringing my 5 down to sub20 and then my 10k down to sub 40 only then I can begin training for half?
      2. One biggest aspect of my training is that I tend to ignore is about nutrition! I used to eat twice a day everyday due to my work routine. My rotation is similar:
    Daily: Trackmsith Eliot (3rd pair)
    Workout: Takumi Sen 8 (2nd pair, end of life) or Adios 8
    Long run: Adios Pro 3 (end of life, broken rod)
    I have a TS10 on order and it should arrive this week or next. I haven’t 100% decided to replace the Pro 3 but probably I will cave and order the black/black.
    For trail I have a pair of Kjerag that is slightly short for my feet. It doesn’t seem to be a huge problem for a couple of hours anyway. And I have a pair of Hoka Speedgoat 5 which are a bit chunky.
    I’m going to do a trail race near Dabou, Côte d’Ivoire, this weekend. Will see how the Kjerag works for that. It was fine in Santa Fe mountains in the dry but the humidity here is amazing. I may be having some blisters if I’m wrong about being able to tolerate them being a bit short. If I planned better I would have ordered the largest size before now.
    I predict the real challenge for this race in Dabou is going to be 33C+ and 90% humidity for a 9am start.
    My shoes are soaked through with sweat after an hour of running regardless of rain or no rain. The AP3 and Adios 8 turn out to handle this the best because the mesh upper is non-absorbent and drains. The TS8 is more like a plastic bag that doesn’t drain. The Eliot is somewhat comical and form a giant puddle around them when I take them off.

      I’m curious what you think about the TS10. As you can see, I’m a big fan.
      The thing about the Kjerag is the Matryx upper drains well. So I’ve found humid or wet conditions are very good in them. Your feet are going to get wet… but not soupy. Plus the grip of the outsole is exceptional in wet.

      The Kjerag did really, really well in the jungle. About half the race course was wet from a fresh rain. There was no problem with grip in (sandy) mud or wet leaf litter.
      The shoes were squelching and drenched with sweat but there is nothing to be don’t about that with tropical temps (West Africa heat wave +5C) and max humidity.
      The only problem is they really are too short and I have a sore toe. If the race had been an hour longer it would be black toes and lost toenails.
      I would say the experience is mostly forgetting about the shoes entirely.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому

      That is running on general, especially trail running… letting shoes disappear.
      The Kjerag gets slushy inside, the lack of insole helps keep it under control and not letting it become a problem… same thing here in humid Taipei.
      The grip is phenomenal in the Kjerag and best year the outsole clears itself very well… one of the things I love about out the shoe so much.

    I enjoy your analyses given in a calm and soothing fashion. I need your advice please. I am thinking about getting back to jugging before running again after about a 30 year lapse. I am overweight, have rather flat and wide feet. I just bought a pair of men's Asics Novoblast 4, UK size 9.5. The midfoot and toe section feel a bit tight even with a thin pair of socks. I cannot buy the wider version in the UK even though it available in the US.
    What if I remove the removable insole to give myself more space? Is that a wise thing to do?
    What if I go half a size up even though it might be too long for me causing my heel to lift too much? What if I wear a thicker pair of socks if I were to go for half a size up?
    I just like the look of Asics running shoes.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому +1

      Taking the insole out won’t hurt the shoe but will cut into its lifespan a little bit in the long term. You can look for an after market insole that is thinner too.
      As for the half size up… you really gotta see the fit. I don’t think it will make much differences for the width. I don’t recommend thicker socks to take up the slack for a poorly fit shoe that is too big.
      Good luck. It takes some trial and error for sure.

    How much toe room do you have in the adios pro 3? I’m stuck between tts and 0.5 a size down for an upcoming marathon. Both would work, but tts feels slightly too roomy (about a thumbs width room), where the 0.5 size down (about a pinky fingers width room) feels a bit tight on my pinky/2nd last toes

    • @BrandonSmith-oe5gk
      @BrandonSmith-oe5gk Місяць тому

      Also, I’m choosing these over the vaporfly just because of the durability. I’m hoping to train in these. Would they die too quickly when compared to a shoe like the endorphin speed 3?

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому +1

      I have about as much as my first finger between the front of the shoe and my toes, I went TTS in them (as I do most shoes). The AP3 has a generous volume in the upper, especially in the toebox (even with the horrible design).
      The thing to pay attention too with carbon plated shoes is not getting too big of a shoe. The position of the curve of the plate and where it falls against your foot is important. Getting too big of a shoe can but the spoon of the plate in the wrong place on your foot and the shoe will always feel off.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Місяць тому +1

      The AP3 is a tank. LSP is very durable. PWRRUN PB is considered an extremely durable foam, especially for a PEBA foam, but the Endorphin 3 series was too soft IMO.

    I appreciate your approach and knowledge but you may need to become a little more circumspect and self-reflective, as you often run away (pun intended) with hyperbolic vagueness and dubious conclusions....for example... "the Takumi 10 is so much better than the Sen 9"! Really,
    so much better? How "stretchy" is this conclusion? Do you have the 9s? In other videos, your anti-Saucony Endorphin preconceptions exposed similar shortcomings.
    I respect what you do and learn from your content but give greater credence to your more objective, technical aspects of your presentations than your subjective views, which, of course, you are free to express!
    I use the Boston 12s for my normal training and the Takumi Sen 9s for thresholds and my half-marathons ( no socks and tightly locked down). The Takumi Sens do their disappearance act and inexplicably cast a magic spell on me ( hyperbole of course)!
    Cheers from Melbourne and be well!

      Yes, I had the 9s, multiple videos on the channel covering them, their history as well as my struggles with them.
