On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

That aircraft and weapon system kept NATO up at night. It was designed to hunt B-1B's IN the ground clutter. Not A models at altitude. Find Lancers in the valleys going at the speed of heat and knock them out like ducks in a shooting gallery. The Su-57 was a flop and the 75 is a pipe dream that I'll personally be surprised to see leave prototype stages. Meanwhile, there are more brand new F-35s in service than any of the Su-27 and its variants.
Then Europe has developed and produced appreciable numbers of Eurofighter, Rafale, Gripen whilst also procuring F-35s and working on next-gen aircraft.
So sure, we may make upgrades to older airframes, F-18, F15, 16 etc but atleast the new ones bear fruit.

The Foxhound can fly to the edge of space, and it's radar can kill a rabbit on the runway at 200 feet. Foxhound's radar can burn through enemy jamming, through brute force. I wasn't aware of the missles the Mig 31 carried. I haven't viewed all of Sidewinder's videos, but I've not seen him outclassed this badly before. The Foxhound is the ultimate interceptor.

The R-33S specifically built for the MiG-31 to work with Zaslon at low altitudes. It was made for cruise missile interception mainly, but by virtue of performing so well down low, it also performs very well at high altitudes. The R-40 was designed to shoot down the SR-71, and its introduction basically stopped entirely flyovers of SR-71s in areas where MiG-25s were present, for example Syria and Egypt.

If the USSR didn't collapse, Mikoyan were really coming into their own in the 1990s. R-37 and R-33S already on the books.... MiG-31M already prototyped. MiG i.42/i.44 were halfway built and likely would have entered service before Y2K.
Imagine being a Tomcat pilot in 199~2 with MiG-31s firing R-37s at you before the Backfires even pop up on radar to fire unabated at your carrier group.
Basically, there were about 2 5-year windows when the USSR would have been extremely dangerous conventionally: At the tail end of the Gen3 fighters 1970-1975 (MiG-23 and MiG-25 non-export models were decent compared to F-4 as far as missile trucks go),
and... 1991-1996 with a fictional healthy Soviet economy.

True, that's why these are such narrow windows.
US typically comes out with the following Generation before the Soviets, and therefore it's a turkey-shoot for another 10 years.
But nothing was quite ready for mass production in time for Soviet Gen4+.
Fast-tracked, 5th gen might have been available in quantities enough to be of concern to the Soviets by the mid-late 90s.
But scary to think about - we only got around to helmet-mounts in the 2010s. We learned about the effectiveness due to the USSR collapse (and fire sale of all Soviet tech, east German aggressor squads, etc). The alternative would have been learning in combat.

    Hey G.S.,
Good show man, the 31 is definitely a tough opponent. Try something for me though: slow down. I know, seems crazy right? However, in order for you to defend from his extremely fast missile, you need to be as, if not more agile than it is to get inside a more advantageous position and range. Many believe you must be high and fast (+35K and +1.1M) to effectively employ the AIM-54; I'll offer that you don't have to waste the gas to get good results. The -60 variant is definitely capable of +70nm shots in TWS if fired at above 30K and .85M. Not only that, but at .85/.9M you will retain the agility needed to evade and reposition.
