On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8. - Ігри

Thanks for watching guys and if you have any ideas for more videos with the Aim-152 please let me know in the comment section we might be able to do something with your idea...ok thanks again guys I'll see you in the next one, much love.
Nice video as always. You use the silhouette of the SU-47 Berkut for tac view, but have you ever done a dogfight with it? Would be really curious as to how it would hold up against modern Nato aircraft. Nevertheless, keep it up :)
@tf330129 100% agree!! I have wondered the same thing. I would love to see a Su-47 appear in a video, just like the YF-23, a couple of videos ago.
Please do a dogfight between AH-1Z/AH64D to p51/Spitfire
Very interesting, that last R77 was sub-MACH at its closest approach to you.
That RAM Jet provides a much longer thrust impulse through more of the missile's flight envelope.
Great Content, Thank You GS.
hey did you ever play battlefield with a handle that started with the letter B? Your voice is very familiar... lol

Shocked that Jester didn't turn your cat into a convertible with those low flying evasion runs.
Agreed I also was very surprised by this.
GS is it possible to throw in a bridge in the canyons. Just asking. We will never know.
@@GrowlingSidewinder "Goddamnit, Jester." I can hear this now.
Just imagine, in a separate timeline we would be flying Super Tomcat-21s with AIM-152s instead of Super Hornet F/A-18-E/Fs.
Imagine!!!!
It would be more capable too. 😂
Quite comical how much capability, particularly BVR, was lost with the retirement of the Cat.
Considering F/A-18C/Ds flew alongside tomcats, it’s possible we’d get both, except that one or the other probably would’ve been phased out for the F-35. Also, I guess the reason they kept the Hornets instead of the Tomcats was because of the multi role. Sure, Tomcats could carry some bombs, but they don’t exactly have the A/G capability of a Super Hornet. (Plus there’s also EA-18s and other specialized variants)
But it is a great idea! And I sure wouldve loved to see it!
@@rhysgoodman7628 While true, The cat was also ungodly expensive to maintain, and that was the primary reason to ditch sweep wing. I'm a tomcat stan, but I understand why the hornet was chosen.
yep, no SEAD, no anti armor, no real standoff capability when it comes to strike, and its most accurate weapon were LGBs. Will admit would have been about as useful as a B-52H modernized when it comes to the amount of JDAMs it "could have" carried on a single mission but wasnt really worth the 3 or 4 things it could do only fairly well. Kinda like the A-10 and its gun..if it werent for the upgrades, the warthog would have went the way of dodo too.
Christmas came early! The modernized Tomcat vs SU-35 match up is like the heavyweight fight of the century. The AIM-152 is the icing on the cake. Great fight. Thank you for all you do!
Always been a Cat person. Micropose Fleet Defender started it for me. Big, awesome bird.
U.S. Navy Fighters for me and SU27 Flanker.
Fleet Defender was awesome!
The AIM-152 is a sweet looking missile. Might make a great design for a hypersonic air to air missile if updated. A Tommy with the AIM-9Xs, AIM-120Ds, and the -152s would a wicked adversary, especially the proposed ST-21.
So true man. It would have been awesome
F14 Tomcat is the most beautiful air plane off all time
It's no A-10
False. SR-71
She’s a sexy machine, no question. But the Viper is the sexiest bitch in the valley.
It looks and was the toppredetor of its time and could still challenge a modern fighter.
Nope, SR71 Blackbird is the queen of the skies.
My dad use to always take me to airshows when I was a kid, and just binge watching all of your videos has rekindled my love for aviation. I love your content man. Keep doing what you're doing ❤
Who here thought that right after he said "I feel more than safe", the screen was going to go back with "Killed In Action" appearing?
Just imagine if our beautiful and beloved big tomcat actually lived long enough to use these AIM 154s...the possibilities
AIM 152s and the Tomcat was retired in 2006 I believe, so if the 152 was built the tomcat would’ve still be in service.
The AIM-152 never entered production... It could have the AMRAAM if it’s still living until today.
Man I love this channel! Could you do a vid with the F-15 against the Chinese J20? It’d be interesting to see how stealthy it actually is in BVR
It’s about as stealthy as a f16
@@Miles26545 bit of and overstatement. From the front it is about 0.05m^2 when compared to the raptor which is 0.0001m^2. Su 57 is like an f16

And you have the tomcat in VF-84 colors. God bless you! 😁
i love seeing the ejector push the missile away and it just floats there travelling at the same speed as the jet then the motor engages and it just takes off
Really surprised that with the first spike Jester didn’t just go “yeah imma head out”
Glad you used Meteor as a comparison.
Meteor initially had wings on the body like the AIM-152 does here, but later were removed during design.
Hughes had a design that was proposed as an alternative to Meteor for the SR(A)1239 BVRAAM contract. They proposed a few different spiral development extended range AMRAAM variants, and got close to winning the contract too
In fact, the contract had to be named to "BVRAAM", as Hughes had named their proposal FMRAAM (Future Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile), which was the original name of the contract.
A bit too on the chin for the UK MoD's liking 😅
I find the naming being too on the nose funny when we have a missile in service that is literally called the Ass Ram.
I'd love to see the F-15 with this missile and I'd really like to hear your explanation for the difference in the performance between the F-15 versus F-14 using that same missile.
"Jester, will you shut the hell up?!?!. I don't want the last thing I ever hear to be you yelling "BREAK RIGHT!" in my damn ear!"
Couldn’t relate to this more loool
AIM-9X + AIM-152 on a Tomcat is like mounting a laser cannon on a M4 Sheridan, lmao
GS: "Everything is quiet..."
Jester: "UNABLE!!!!"
Jester is a super funny addition to these videos! XD "UNABLE!"
F-14 is just such a sexy bird. Love the vid.
A F-14 with all the modern weapons and sensor suite would be a smoking warbird. Link it with an F-35 and you would have your weapons truck with outstanding speed and range. Tomcats were a magnificent Bird of Prey.
Wow, that one R-77M reached *hypersonic* speed (just for a second, but still), those are no joke up high!
I absolutely loved the videography, the scenery, lighting, the scattered cloud layers, the gorgeous video quality, all really came together perfectly for me. Nothing too distracting from the BVR performance that could have been, but without the scenery being too plain.
Obviously we had some very nice flying from GS (as always), but those missiles really stole the show for me.
Unfortunately DCS doesn't currently support any bank-to-turn missle autopilots, so the AIM-152 basically acted like a standard air-to-air missile with symmetrical cruciform wings or strakes, in stead of flying more like a miniature aircraft coming in for a supersonic gun run.
Still, the ramjet provides such a huge boost to endgame energy that it didn't seem to matter *that* much although, once that ran out, it did seem like the missile was bleeding energy much faster than would be expected for simple pitching maneuvers (this was also likely just another side effect of DCS not really having any good control algorithms for these missles, leading to excessively large pitch and AOA oscillations in the last mile before impact).
With this in mind, I'm really impressed at the performance you were able to get out of DCS's stock missile autopilot; It was just great to see these beauties get their (virtual) day in the sun!
I would like to see a dogfight between a Spitfire and a Zero! They are both supreme maneuver airplanes.
Ever thought about using voice attack? you could say "jester, could you drop the tanks?" and it will translate that to a keybind and automatically drop the tanks. for example.
Ive been learning the MiG-29 and Su-27 (just started playing) GS's channel made me bite the bullet and get a setup and im having fun.
Now imagine the Aim-95 was successful. A tomcat with HMS and a HOBS 55g+ missile
Never saw one with you in an F4U Corsair!
Would like to see this idea extended into upgrading the F-5 into a theoretical F-20 Tigershark and seeing what that platform could possibly do, although that might be a bit more difficult of a task than just upgrading the weapon platform on the F-14 in DCS.
It would also be cool if the F-14 could link with the F-35 and fire all it weapons with Radar turned off and relying on the F-35 to provide guidance. This works really well for legacy aircraft working with F-35's at Red Flag.
"Jester is absolutely losing his s****, as usual.". F******* hilarious!!
Worked on this missile in 1989. It was called AAAM back then. It would hit you from above, so dive and hide all you want. The wind tunnel model was about 4 ft $120 K
'No Chute', is that the polite way of saying 'he is very dead'?
Correct 😁
the more i watch you buddy the more i love that tomcat such a wonderful platform for the era it was created
GS, youve taught us so much. These tac views, your daily explanations, reminders about common terms. At first i thought id never understand this aerial chess game. Takes a bit to learn about radar modes, missiles etc. but damn, we love this stuff. Coolest job on earth is a fighter pilot. Thanks for teaches us the details!!!!
I like that Tac view at the end GS
I’d still love to see you recreate the ending of Top Gun and do an F-14 vs 5 or 6 F-5’s representing the fictional Migs from the film. 👍
He already did it just search up top gun growling sidewinder and it should pop up
yep great video too very well done
You beat all those missiles and Jester even stayed in the jet!
Great idea about the new phoenix missiles! A mordernised Tomcat is kind of a dream for every aviation fan.
A dream is all it will be thanks to our politicians in Washington. They were so short sighted in the 90's and early 2000's.
@@joeclaridy
Yeah. While I am an F18 fan, they counted far to much on peace time. People forget why we need a large and capable military. In the modern world, development of new systems take to long. Today you fight with what you already have.
Ol Jester didn't trust you killed every bogey. He was still freakin at the end of your video (11:21). At least he stayed INSIDE the aircraft! 🤣
Goodness, jester is absolutely loosing any calm he ever had! Lol, I’m kinda surprised he didn’t eject in the first volley.
Dear GS, maybe one day we can host you in Iran to see the veteran cats up close.
I just love the F14, I was a teenager when it came into service and it was just metal sex. lol
It would be cool, as long as we're playing in the "What If" category, if there could be a category of planned but cancelled aircraft. Super Tomcat, Tigershark, F-16XL, etc. Your videos are awesome and I enjoy watching you do your thing.
Great to see the AIM-152 being featured in DCS.
The AIM-152 would have been truly a worthy successor to the Phoenix. It wasn't merely required to match the Phoenix in range, but exceed it by a considerable margin and have much better high altitude performance. Fun fact: the AIM-152 was supposed to pack a dual-mode seeker. The Hughes/Raytheon team offered a design with an IR-seeker mounted at the tip of the radome, while GD/Westinhouse were going to use a RF/IR shared aperture sensor. This would have complimented the F-14D's IRST and potentially allowed the Tomcat to use AIM-152's against stealthier targets. Both teams had already tested some of the key technologies involved and Hughes had evaluated its design in the ACIMD (Advanced Common Intercept Missile Demonstration which seems also to be the DCS model, the actual AIM-152 was going to look slightly different), so it was more than merely a concept on paper when it got cancelled.
You make a fantastic instructor growling. Love the tac view man and I love your videos!
The AIM-152 sounds like something I would expect the F-22 or F-35 to carry.
Jester made it through the fight! I was half-expecting him to punch out around 5:17 lol
Got the hood scoop on the missile bruh
Really enjoyed the explanation of defending and the crank. Usual stuff that puts good context to your previous videos.
that last missiles started bobbing up and down like "yeah bitch, i'm coming for ya"
F14 high or low growl sound is my FAVORITE sound from all F series fighters
Those clouds look amazing now - hope they look that good in VR too...
Great video, nice to see the old Turkey destroying the migs again. I think a good new series to look into might be carrier operations using aircraft from both sides. Only if it's possible though, I'm not 100% certain on that
An F-14D with these, especially a modified version, AIM-120Ds, AIM-9X might come in handy right now. The Super Tomcat Twenty One would definitely come in handy right about now.
Maybe a bit of a longer video where you launch off the deck to assist two existing f14s that need assistance that are overwhelmed with enemy fighters?
Were those F14s supporting the disabled SS Layton who had wondered into enemy waters?
Navy: we need a cheaper and lighter alternative to the Phoenix.
Raytheon: we made you an exploding jet missle.
Would be cool to see the AST21 in dcs. Could you maybe try the F14 with AIM120's? I believe they might have planned to put them on the F14D if I am not mistaken
Thanks for the tactics breakdown for us new guys
Awesome video. The Navy should have kept up with this AAM program for their Super Hornets. Makes you wonder if DCS will put out a TomCat D or even go as far as to put out a Super TomCat the Navy was planning?? I guess I can only dream.
Hmmm. A missile powered by a ram jet engine... I shall call you Roger! Thanks Growling.
I actually grew up a stones throw away from an abandoned Cold War era Raytheon missile plant.
i was wondering what the name of the song at the end of your videos are, really like it, keep up the good work
And today we have the only jet I prefer over the Hog. It might be an anachronism in the 21st century but it's still beautiful to watch being flown.
Watching the F-15/AIM-152 combo now and I see how the F-14A/B with AIM-152 is limited by the AWG-9. I'd want to see how the F-14D would operate with the APG-71 as it has some of the upgraded features of the APG-70 of the Eagle.
Can you imagine the Super Tomcat 21 with AIM-152s and AIM-9Xs? It would've been a beast. It would've had a more powerful AESA radar than anything except the F-22, more maneuverability than anything except the F-22 and maybe the F-16, more speed than anything except the F-22, more combat range than anything except the F-15, more payload than anything except the F-15, and longer range missiles than any fighter. I wish we could've seen it in action.
I absolutely love your hoodies and t' shirts
With gas prices so high, you should land to the desert and have your talkative guy to fetch the tanks back :P
I’ve missed Jester. I thought he was going to punch out for a second there!
That's crazy but awesome!!
That lead 35 looks like it got hit by a bus, lol

So it's a RAMRAAM or a RAMJAMRAAM. Or was this finally the SPAMRAAM
Got to love the acronyms you know. ❤️ 😍
All those movements started because of R-37M was capable to hit the fighter type target within the outstanding range of ~200km
That Jester is absoulutely lost his shit made me laugh so bad lmao😂😂
So sad that US Navy retired the F-14 Tomcat, it still has a very large potential!
GS is literally the Jackfrags of DCS
huge compliment. Thank you.
With the absolute missile truck that is the f15, this missile would make the f15 extremely deadly.
@8:51 in your windscreen you can see the black smoke of the missile that was chasing you after it had just blown up.
Not having to carry those rails is a big deal for the Cat
If you're up to use the 152s again, maybe test them against the meteor to see what could have been
Random thought: Anyone ever see the old Clint Eastwood film, Fire Fox? Seems like the backwards firing missile would’ve been pretty handy in a lot of situations or not really? The Tomcat would’ve been a great platform to develop it for as the RIO could’ve had control of it like a modern tail gunner of sorts.
Any missile used that way first has to overcome forward momentum without tumbling due to the wind hitting it from aft, and then be able to accelerate from that point. It would probably also have to fire pit bull. And it would displace a regular weapon.
I can't say I'd choose this.
Jester is absolutely losing his shit. that made my day 😂😂😂😂
Please come thru on that F-15 video with the 152s 🙏 Who doesn't love an F-15 video?
In the command database that 152 capable Tomcat also comes with a rear looking radar...
The AIM-152 was very impressive in this video.
The fall of the Soviet Union was a double edged sword in the way that it ended the development of some weapon systems like the AIM-152.
At least we're getting the AIM-260 in the not to distant future.
Next year, I understand. But as for Russia.
But the Crimson Tide quote comes to mind. "I hop you enjoyed the break, because now we are back in business."
You got that backwards. The Tomcat couldn't land on a carrier with a full load of Phoenix missiles!
U can’t land if u take off with that weight. The sentence was “can’t take off, land” but yes the sentence could have been better phrased.
GS just for fun put a couple of AIM 152 missles on a super Hornet or F-35 want to see the same dog fight ( I know the F35 would loose stealth could not carry internally) Im just curious how much the USN misses the Tomcat!!
Holy shit! This is one hell of a missile!
Aim 152 looks like a mini air to air tomahawk

F-16C with meteor missiles, I wonder how a highly agile best rate fighter out there, has crazy good fox 3s such as the AIM 152 of this video or the meteor.
I kinda wish Ace Combat incorporated things like radar gimbaling into the mix. Trying to maneuver into this “crank” and turning to defend would make it more interesting.
But I guess they have to stick to the formula.
i would like to see the Aim-152 against a Meteor but the Aim-152 equipped on the F-15
