One time I was in a 50's diner and put a dollar worth of nickles and selected this song 20 times to see how many times it would play before they pulled the plug. 3.5 was the answer.

The very last line of the backward track sounds to me like "Eh what every no good manner." I'm not claiming it really is that though. I don't believe in serious hidden messages in reversed recordings. It's just a matter of your own perception. Bits and pieces of the rest do sort of resemble words here and there, but it is rare when they come cleanly together in any reversed recording to form any significant phrase.

+Corbyn Hanson Hightower What's so horrific about it? I remember this song and still have it in my collection, but haven't heard it in a long time. A younger friend of mine mentioned it to me today as someone remade it in the 90s. She didn't know about the original version from 1966, so I gave her a little history lesson. Haha! I notice this video includes the flip side of the record which was the same song plated backwards. The flip side label is also printed backwards. The flip side doesn't sound much worse than the white noise kids listen to today that they call music.

From Wikipedia: At the time the song was written, Jerry Samuels was a recording engineer at Associated Recording Studios in New York. Using a device called a variable-frequency oscillator (VFO), he was able to alter the pitch of a recording (voices higher or lower, for example) without changing the tempo. From this came the idea for a song based on the rhythm of the old Scottish tune "The Campbells Are Coming". Also Kim Fowley released a cover of the song as his second single, after "The Trip."

Anyone else remember that years after this song debuted as the funny and inoffensive "one-hit wonder" which it truly was meant in the mid-late 1960's, that it was "banned" from commercial radio airplay starting in the early 1970's because it was thought by some to be "insensitive" and "mocking" of those with "mental health issues"? The ban seemed to coincide with the mid-1970's beginnings of the push to end the institutionalization of those with mental and emotional control issues, which was cheered by many academics at the time and by large portions of the mainstream media as well. At the time, what was being pushed was that "monitored aftercare programs" on an outpatient basis, overseen by "mental health professionals" prescribing "therapy" combined with huge amounts of psychotropics, would be "more effective", "more humane", and "less costly" than court-ordered institutionalization.

In college, had a part time job as a floor guard at a skating rink. tough gig. lol We played 45rpms. I took my 45, that God only knows how it survived my childhood, but, I'd play the B side, announcing "Backwards Skate!" true story! ;-)

I got this on vinyl yesterday just because of side b printed backwards hoping it played backwards and it does so, that was fun.
