Very surreal to be on a channel I have watched for so many years! Was an absolute pleasure to talk with you and have some fun! Big thanks to the Gentry for the nice comments!
The honor was all mine my friend. It was a fantastic to work with you, I look forward to doing this again. Keep up the good work and speak soon. 😎👊🥂
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry awesome show fellas. Thanks for the shoutout. Huge humbling surprise.
Keep up the amazing work Russel!
Well deserved! What a great conversation and collection!
Appreciate you both!
A vintage Explorer reference bought by your own granddad - that's a really special piece for a collection.
Thank you Jay, I knew you would appreciate that. Isn't it bloody gorgeous?!?!? I hope you are well my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
Now he has two really special Explorers in his collection.
Was that the same one who owned the pocket watch
The Vintage Explorer is just epic...... congrats my friend.
Love Russell's explorer story. TGV you should do more of these chats with other smaller UA-cam watch channels and their collections. It is super enlightening!
I want to see a chat with Just one more watch or Just the Watch. That would be epic.
@@younusimam-thesalamproject6340 that would be a great idea, Scottish 🏴 Australian bonkers indeed
Yes more collaborations like this!!!
You see, this is one of the reasons why I think that you tube's recommendations are crap because I subscribe to a dozen watch sites and I have never heard of THE MAD WATCH COLLECTOR!
Good point
How have I missed this chap until now? He’s fantastic!
You two are a mad combination, but it is an utter delight to listen to two people who have such a clear and obvious passion and knowledge about watches. The story and link behind your two Explorers is amazing! Keep up the good work, both of you, and keep safe
Great to see someone who takes proper care of their family's legacy and perpetuates the tradition initiated by their grandfather with the Rolex and next to this still falls in love with their childhood's Casio watches. I can see genuine passion here. I like to think that in 20-30 years these Apple watches may be in our childrens' eyes what the 80s and 90s Casio digital watches are in our eyes today.
Urban gentry and the mad watch collector in one video - christmas seems to be early. Two very different and unique concepts and you got to love both!
Very nice to see you collaborating with other channels. Quite gentry of you!!!
TGV. Thanks for introducing me to this guy. He’s good. I shed a tear when he showed his granddads watch. Have subscribed to his channel.
It's funny how we share the same love for military/tool watches & yet both our collections are markedly different. Great show guys.
Great show. I couldn’t help but laugh when TGV said, “ What an amazing story.... sorry didn’t mean that” 😂 Thanks for shoutout!
Love Russell's stuff, don't think anyone is doing anything like him with the humour, hope this gives him loads of traction. You two are like Morcembe and Wise together, perfect double act for more vids together.
Great David!! Thank you for the support!
I love Russel's channel, hopefully this collaboration will help him get some much deserved attention.
Great story associated with the explorer. To buy a modern explorer to compliment the vintage is wonderful. Kudos mate.
Tgv will you be getting the new 36
My first watch was a Breitling Navitimer Cosmanaute AOPA my Dad bought me in 1967 when l was 11 It wholesaled for 150:00 USD then(Yes,old guys guys still collect watches) You young people are very knowledgeable and have great taste in watches! I bought and sold so I've probably owned(for a minute) the watches you young guys call vintage! Keep on maturing,I enjoy you immensely!
Two of my favorite Brits in one video?! YYYEEEESSSSS!
Thanks for the shout out T!
Thanks Steve!!! All the best!
Perfectly right Sir !!!!
Really cool one TGV, I'm going straight to Russel's channel after this. The Explorer story is really amazing 🙏🏻
Russell is a top guy. Thanks for supporting a friend of the channel. 🙏
I started to love watches about two years ago following TGV. I really like to see two enthusiasts like you discussing about the history of watchmaking, cinema, etc having fun at the same time. keep it up! Pure CAPOLAVORO! Greetings from Italy
Timex, Wittnauer, Bulova, Seiko and Hamilton were my watches when I started at a real early age. Even Cardinal as well.
I don't think I've ever had so much fun listening to a watch blog! ones style seems to balance the others out! Thanks so much guys!
I love his sense of humour. I'd like to find out more on the Squale blue and what makes it so mesmerising.
After watching this, I'm looking to get the CWC 1980 re-issue.
You won’t regret it Michael!!!
That rolex from his grand dad was really cool..what a piece of history!
What a great show! I’m a huge fan of both channels and this collaboration didn’t disappoint. Fantastic stuff 👏👏👏👏
Amazing to see Russell doing so well. Well deserved.
Ryan! 👊I agree. It’s awesome to see UA-camrs support one another.
Finally a cwc RN diver featured in this channel...I was waiting for it, even if it's someone else's watch 😂
Russel is the man!!! Glad you had him on, he deserves more recognition!
💯
I had so much enjoyment and fun with this video, what a character Russel, Im subscribed now.
Thanks for making me aware of this other entertaining channel TGV. I’m always looking for good watch enthusiast media.
Always a pleasure, thank you David, enjoy!
Best regards,
TGV
I literally just scrolled past a Long Island Watch youtube video and now that exact video is an ad for this video lmao. Just saved me some time.
Russle, watching you two enjoying our "anachronistic" (like my daughter puts it) hobby makes me smile !!
With respect. Your daughter's an idiot. There's absolutely no evidence to link watch collecting with a fear of spiders.
Good joke - you must be a real funster. I guess you mixed the word - anachronistic = to be obsolete - up with the expression "Arachnophobia / arachnophobic" the fear of spiders. My daughter blames our hobby to be outdated. She already saw your quite funny answer.
So glad to see my friend MWC on here! I adore his videos! Such a unique style that I'm very jealous of. Not a bad musician, either! I had a loud laugh when TGV asked how many watches MWC has and he led with "Well I have a lot of Casios." I do the exact same thing! I all my Casios my "victimless crimes" because they're so cheap.
Really enjoyed this conversation. This was my first year falling down the deep, beautiful and expensive watch rabbit hole. Started with a green Orient Kamasu, and now I am patiently awaiting the arrival of my white dial Sinn 104- matte version Thanks boys!
I started my watch collection in 2019 with the SKX007 too but just the black bezel :) then I got the CasioOak Blackout then the F-91W for a whopping £2.99 :'D then after a few years of saving for my Speedmaster Professional, I was pulled away by a two tone vintage 1987 16013 Datejust with the fluted bezel UNPOLISHED which I got at the end of March and I love it!
I always use my SKX bezel for cooking as well :')
What a great collection! I love when a person has different kind of pieces and doesnt stuck on only 1 kind, i loved the vintage explorer, that patina is damn beauty
I watched this vid during my playtime changing straps and bracelets, I had a great time, keep up the excellent content TVG.
How funny. I stumbled across this blokes channel only yesterday. Cosmic alignment. Very fun and informative video gents 👍
Sooo cool to watch both of you together! Great 8 watch pull, Russell!
Thank you my friend!
I would def watch more of you guys talking about watches. Great stuff!
Very fun interview! Will have to check out his channel. Keep up the great work!
Well, this put a smile on my face this morning.
Just poured out a cup of coffee.
Very nice collection and that vintage Explorer, simply gorgeous 👌
This is the most enjoyable watch video I have seen in a long time. Big thanks to you guys.
So glad to hear, thank you! I hope you enjoy more of these long format Watch Talk videos, I have almost a years worth of this style with my good friend Marc from LIW,
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry I really like these long formats, have followed you from the beginning and love how you try all these different things, I also thank you dearly for introducing me to the MWC, he is amazing and has reignited the joy of watches in me, and together you are two wonderful characters with a deep knowledge and impeccable taste. Thanks again and I look forward to your upcoming videos as always. 🙂
You’re doing a first class job of spreading interest in all manner of things - teaching children from 1 - 101. Enjoying life whatever the budget.
I’m a comedy poet here in the UK and will be posting out my first collection Full Metal Jacket Potato.
I’m in Blighty at the minute mostly flitting from Manchester and Liverpool.
Anyway, enough about me, all the best x
Brilliant show. I love the explorer watches that Russel was so kind to share. Cheers
sitting here in Switzerland sipping a Glenfarclas 15 wearing my 214270 and enjoy the video. I spent my youth in and around Frankfurt Germany and been to school there. I got into watches over your channel TGV. You are the reason I bought my Sinn 104 and my 556I in the Sinn Headquarters. It’s funny that I didn’t know that brand although I used to live there.. thank you for your impeccable and enjoyable clips over the years! Keep up producing! Cheers 🥃
Yves
The two most watchable, likeable and honest gentlemen of the watch arena on youtube, Thanks TGV and Russ for a great video
Brilliant guest. Yes, I used look at the catalogues when I was young too, and then jewellers windows. Now the internet.
Normally I watch old videos with my afternoon coffee but today I get to watch a new one! Awesome. I love this channel.
PS: Hemel HF20 and a Marathon TSAR are on their way thanks to Long Island Watch 👏👏👏
Thank you, so glad to hear and congrats on the Hemel and Marathon, outstanding choices, some of the best brands on LIW, if not the best!
Best regards,
TGV
Thanks TGV for making me discover this channel, I just subscribed. Great show
Russell, you've just found yourself a new subscriber. I, like you, have found myself being pulled into the "rabbit hole" of watch collecting thanks to TGV. Just purchased a Japanese version of the Dress-KX blue dial. Mt first serious watch purchase, can't wait for it to arrive. My granddad was blind and had a brail watch, which popped open with a side button. I think it is from the 60s or 70s. It has a Swiss movement which I had serviced recently.
Thanks to you both, and greetings from New Zealand.
Thanks for the support Jeremy!!!! All the best!
Great to see you helping out the smaller channels. I subbed to Russell a few months ago and amazing to see he's been on your radar too. Huzzah
Love the mashup of both production styles! Brilliant show gentlemen
That was awesome, really made my day hope to see you both doing more watch talk.
What a great interview and a fantastic collection! Very beautiful pieces, I love them all.
Awesome! Two gents who have great and not too pretentious tastes. A very large portion of my collection is TGVs fault, and Russel has had a bad influence on my Casio acquisition!
Lol.i have to admit the TGV really changed my opinion of Seiko and taught me a ton about the brand.like soo many I can't help but to have soo much respect for the Seiko brand especially knowing what I now know about Seiko.growing up I always though Seikos were cheap pieces of garbage but once I started really getting into watches(roughly 15yrs ago)and watching channels such as TGV I was amazed at the history of the brand and all the models they made that everyone loves.so far I do not have a Seiko in my collection but I do have 6 of them on my list to buy in the very near future.the skx007j is one I want first I just haven't found one yet that I feel comfortable pulling the trigger on.waiting for the 140th anniversary edition seiko 5 with the white dail and blue bezel insert to come out cause as soon as I does it'll be in my collection as well.blame TGV for the purchase of my Hamilton khaki king as well as my Glycine combat sub though.lmao
Your grandfathers original explorer is absolutely beautiful. What a great thing to own.
This was quite a good show. I really enjoyed it, and the selection of watches was great. That was really interesting about his Explorer. I didn't know they made it in a 34mm at one point. That explained why the size difference between the 39mm and that one looked so stark.
TGV thank you for introducing Russell to me. WOW! What a ride. I'm definitely going to be watching him. Just scribed to his channel. I'm fairly new to the hobby (just had my three year anniversary on March 25th.... I know pathetic I would know that .... LOL). I do appreciate all you do for the watch community!
I had the same reaction when I started collecting watches, including my hair also looking like the mad watch collector
Fantastic conversation. Really beautiful parallel between his gd's Explorer and his. Quite a few "this could be my only watch" entries in this collection. Strong.
Great video TGV! Russell is a blast. I will check out his channel. Best regards, John
Love his channel and his enthusiasm been a follower for a bit now !
late to the party here, great vid as always. wanted to chime in on the Speedy. first of all it wears small, i feel more like a 40. but that manual wind is amazing,it's my daily and it is now out for service for the first time, taking 3 months so far and i miss it like i never thought possible, I misss winding it every morning and looking at that beatyful movement , it's mezmerizing and quite a riyual, i just love it and don't think i'll ever live without one .
Fantastic my friend! Looks like that’s the one!!!!!
Love the explorer and love even more the fact Rolex have brought the 36mm back. Its a no brainer, amazing size with all the latest bells and whistles.
Nice one, really enjoyed that. You've certainly brought back memories of going through the watch pages of the Argos catalog. In fact my last purchase was the Casio Royale from Argos!
My love of watches also came from seeing the submariner in Live and Let Die 😃
Really enjoyed this, thank you. Great interaction between you both 👏
Two of the very best watch guys ,both of there shows are top drawer, they're very different but that's what we need.. brilliant guys..🇬🇧
Ha! This time you will not keep me from going to sleep as i have already watched the new video.
Fantastic video, i always enjoy brits speaking english and falling back into the accent they are obviously used to for a looooong time.
MWC is right about you being guilty of his choice of certain pieces. Same here!
I'll spare you the details, let's just say it's a fascinating hobby, thanks TGV for hooking me up to it!
Ahhh Russell, you've got to love him !!
Well done gents! Fantastic to hear both of you share your perspective, insight and passion. You have a great dynamic and your respect for each other shined throughout. Enjoyed it very much!
Great fun conversation! I'm usually not so much into UA-camrs who sport wild editing and are all over the place in front of the camera, but Russell seems to be a really likable guy. Good night TGV.
I loved it, TGV. Nice guy and great talk!
my happy friday just started, with TGV
Happy Friday to you!
Have a great weekend, thank you.
Best regards,
TGV
Tom Baker hasn't aged a day since his run as Doctor Who.
Nice to see he collects watches!
It seems to me as newcomer to these watch videos on UA-cam that the two of you are completely opposite and that this interview wouldn’t work. However that was the quickest 40 minutes of my life. An excellent interview, funny, informative and flowed seamlessly. Both of you should do more together please.
I watch both your channels and this was so personal on a human level. I also inherited a Rolex from my grandfather, he gave me a Oyster Perpetual date in 14k gold. The watch is about forty years old and it’s still ticking and looking ever splendid. Keep up the great work, really enjoying the content.
I’m here to support my brother Russ and of course support TGV!
Miguel!!! Lovely to hear from you, and thank you for the support.
Onwards and upwards my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry ❤️
I've stumbled across TMWC before and have to admit I couldn't quite get along with his "kooky" schtick, but he comes across as a lovely, knowledgeable guy here. I think a re-evaluation is in order! That CWC 1980 is absolutely gorgeous.
Totally agree on the Apple Watch thing. Apple Watch is what actually got me into watches! I now have a small collection of mechanical watches and I absolutely love them
I’d love to hear you both review (together or separately) and talk about what the revived Zodiac is doing these last few years.
Thanks for pointing me towards Russell's channel.
Fantastic conversation! it’s the end of a long week of work for me so I lit up a cigar, opened a stout, and enjoyed this video of yours on my back porch. It’s 68 degrees (F) and humid as hell where I’m at in Florida but we make the best of what we’ve got! Haha. Casio G-Shock Steel GMW-B5000 on my wrist, btw.
ABSOLUTELY EPIC VIDEO, TGV! So very well done! Learned a great deal, and you brought themadwatch channel to my attention. Really comprehensive video! So excellently well done. Couldn’t have asked for better. Keep it coming, my friend. Onward and upward!
TGV, saw the sinn 104 a couple of years ago on your channel. I recently bought it to commemorate a milestone. Thank you for introducing this wonderful watch!
Great job fellas. I can totally relate to Russell. I have an Elgin Tank that my grandfather bought in 1941-ish. When he passed 20 years ago, he left it to me. I wear it on special occasions like he did. Someday it will be my sons. It isn't worth a ton of money, but the sentimentality is irreplaceable. Keep up the great work!
What a smashing bloke, I had to sub to him.
He’s a good guy and very entertaining. He’s also a true friend of the channel.
Idk if I’d smash him but he seems like a good guy
The heritage black 41mm for me just fine, conversely I found the 58 too small lol. Going to follow Russell’s channel.
I think most of my early watches came from Argos, I still have a little look as they have some great deals
I loved the CWC, I’m a sucker for vintage divers myself 😄
Very impressive collection from our friend...specially the vintage explorer, what a fantastic history behind has been for this amazing collector Grandfather stunning piece. Doesn't get better than this...magnificent 👍👍...
Charming video - very readily watchable - feels like coffee with a couple of friends
This guy is freaking funny! Good video tgv and thanks for introducing us “set in our ways video watchers” to someone new! He’s fun to watch! He is so right about the Squale 1521 blue. I would never sell mine!
Thank you for the support my friend! That Squale has the best blue ever!!!!!
Fantastic conversation. Very entertaining. Great job guys!👍👍👍
Fantastic video. TGV is a legend and Russell is on his way as well.
--Michael
Appreciate that Michael !!!
What a great show by my favorite watch enthusiast lads! Think my favorite piece out of Russel's collection is his grandad's explorer. Russel, may I suggest you check out some the other speedy reduced models? A few of them have the integrated 7750 movement like the ref 3520.50. I have that piece and I got to say that "I'm chuffed to bits". Ok, ciao!
Thank you my friend I will do!
He is one of these kind of people you have to love emediatly.
The blue Sqale is one of my favorite divers.
A verry refreshing video thank you for that Gentlemen.
Love both you guys. This was a really fun watch. I am so close to buying that Squale....!
Good video as usual, good to see you connecting with others !
That was a great video! Russell seems like a cool guy. Cheers!
My two favourites of the watch world together! Marvellous! Thank you, chaps! 👍👍👍
