- Just moved to the Bay Area on an L1-B Visa. Here's my experience and some tips, but obviously it's all anecdotal.

Hello! I am a junior software engineer currently residing in Vancouver, Canada. I document my experiences and personal development through my career and life in this channel. Subscribe if you want to follow along :)
Hi @sam_in_tech ! Thank you for sharing your visa journey with us. Bit of a silly question but asking regardless: is it possible to go to the airport here in Canada to get the visa stamp from the US border agents without actually leaving Canada/buying a flight to the US? After (hopefully) being issued the visa stamp, I’d like to stay in Canada for a few days to sort out some things so wondering if I can avoid paying the plane ticket since I don’t plan on leaving the country that same day..! Thank you!
Don’t worry, It’s much more difficult to obtain from Italy.
The essential thing is, never give up!
Good luck !
Awesome as a Canadian who wants to move to the usa i see this as an inspiration.
all the best in your new journey in the US
The hoops and hurdles that the US government throws in the way of immigrants looking for work in America are insane
Hey congrats! 🎉
Is the process from L1-B to permanent resident streamlined? Or do you have to be L1-A ?
It seems to be streamlined. I can apply for a green card with a L1B.
how do you convince your employer to relocate you? my company does not usually provide sponsorships
I wish you all the luck in the world🤞🙌
Hey hey! I’m in the same process with a big tech that supposedly does this a lot. Only thing I’m worried about was my years of experience being only 3. How many YOE did you have when you moved?
is that 3 years of full-time? Mine was like just a year over of full-time. I had a very shaky case and thank the lord the border patrol officer took pity on me!
Hi, congrats. What about tax? Do you have to pay double taxes? Did you remove /cancel your Canadian residency (not citizenship)?
Thanks! I don’t think I will be double taxed, but I guess I’ll find out when I file my Canadian taxes next year. I didn’t have to do anything with regards to my residency. Maybe I’m supposed to and I haven’t… I just came to the border with my visa package and got through.
@@tech_and_sundry I see. Let us know how it went? Thanks and good luck
Hello, first of all congrats for L1 visa. I have one question. Did they provide new L1 visa receipt number after approving or did you know your L1 receipt number before in hand( blanket L1B)
If it is a blanket VISA then your organization can help you the receipt number they would already have one for the entire company.
What about being a self taught software engineer or do you need a degree to go with your career or is just actually being employed and having experience enough ?
A couple of questions -
1) How long did it take from the application submission date (by you) to approve it by your employer and to submit to USICS? Appreciate if you could give a timeline for this ? Mine is L1A
2) What are the forms I am assuming that there is no need for DS160 its only I -797 , Is there any other forms ?
3) Any other documents required ?
Thats so cool!
Hi, should I need to get all of the related document with courier before visa appointment or can I print them?
You should come with everything already printed and organized for them to review.
Welcome to the US!
Do you get paid in USD or CAD after completing the transfer?
USD!
Could you share the information of a good lawyer?
If I am less than 2 years old in the company and applying for L1B will that be rejected?
No, the requirement for the application is at least 1 year. Other than that, it depends on the case the lawyers put together and how nice the officer reviewing it is.
ohh L1B is interesting, I would've assumed you just would have gone using a TN Visa
If you need citizenship, I mean love I know a single fellow in his late 20s, who lives in the bay/valley area. 😅 😂
I think she'd rather go back to working remotely than get into a relationship 😂
@@randyt700 and I think she can make her own decision, thanks though. 😂
"who would argue with the officer" lol noted
Awww, you a softie.
Working remotely is favoured when you have something to babysit (cater for) at home. Haha I know ಥ‿ಥ
Are you pursing a long career in software?
I am, but let’s see what happens!
