  • Motorcycle Road Trips aren't just about enjoying fabulous roads and staggering scenery. At the end of a hard day's riding, somewhere unique and characterful to lay your head, is also often an endearing memory of the journey.
    One such place is just a few miles away - Lickisto Blackhouse Camping Ground - a truly 'unique', 'characterful & 'memorable' visit . . .

    Love the toilet with the mirror glass. In 1987 I was working at Leadville in the American rockies and met a retired NASA scientist. He invited me to visit his log cabin in the wilderness to have supper and meet his wife. We dined on mountain river trout caught that day, best fish I have ever eaten. He showed me his loo which was a small cabin located on top of a cliff, it had glass door so he could look out over the rockie mountains whilst doing his business. A memorable visit and an incredible man.

    Hi Kevin, Now that was the Harris I’d been waiting for. Beautiful soft turquoise waters and lovely white beaches. Your campsite was brilliant. Lovely views for campers, even a loo with a view! The communal blackhouse was brilliant. So comfortable. I found your comment about the cuckoo interesting. We have an annual visitor in bush nearby, and we all look forward to hearing the gentle “cuckoo, cookoo” come April. I think this episode could be my favourite so far, although I’m looking forward the your visit to Shetland. Thanks Kevin, see you next week.

    What a fabulous camp site! Another compelling insight into life on the islands. I shivered as you progressed along the damp breezy roads though! Going off on a tangent, whilst at Niffany earlier in the week, I wandered up to Gargrave and became a gongoozler at Highlander and Eshton Locks. A boat went up Eshton and failed to completely close the gates as they exited, so I did the job for them. Then a lady on her lunch break from the office overlooking the lock thanked me for taking the time to "tidy up" after them! Amazing what you learn watching UA-cam! She also told me the tale of the lock reconstruction after one of the walls collapsed. I'm back home in Middlesbrough now and it's bl**dy cold here too! I'm halfway down a bottle of 19 Crimes 🍷🍷

    As the 999th viewer, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this route you took on Harris. Such a panorama of unique rewards all the way round! I never expected to see that turquoise colored water! And the sandy beach. I appreciate the effort you take to be careful as you go, Kevin. That was some kind of campground, and you certainly seemed glad that you got to experience that as well. See you next time, from over here in Portland, Oregon.

    It really is a wild ride for you, Kevin. Do you find the distortion of the front screen interferes with your view. I never had a screen that distorted as much. Perhaps it is just our angle of view! Potato Farm camping that's a new one to tick off the list of weird places. We are certainly get a view of an area that I have never been to. The highlight for me are those white beaches and blue water. Mine I am looking forward to the return of, Aslan and the calm of the cut!

    Anyway as usual you have produced another stunning video.fair play you always have your narrow boat videos and now you're videos of this road trip..are something else.that others should take a close look at . perhaps they will realise just how to produce a interesting and informative video for many to watch....

    Such rugged and beautiful land! It does look like it's getting colder from on episode to the next. When I see that land, I often wonder how the Scots were able to carve a living out of the land. It's so rocky, and so relatively little topsoil. I was a competitive cyclist (bicycle) in college... and the one part of it I didn't enjoy was cold, wet weather. I can't imagine how tough a cyclist would have to be in Scottish weather! Interesting Campsite!

    • @Setinmywaysalways
      @Setinmywaysalways День тому +3

      There are few trees on Harris and Lewis, Scotland due to a combination of human activities, livestock grazing, and a harsh climate:
      Human activities: Vikings destroyed trees to prevent islanders from using them to build boats.
      Livestock grazing: Land was cleared for grazing land.
      Climate: The climate is harsh.
      Soil: The soil in some areas is not suitable for trees.
      Post-glacial woodlands: There was evidence of large forests on the islands after the ice age, but these woodlands have dwindled over time.
      Moth infestation: Most of the pines planted by the Forestry Commission were destroyed by a moth infestation
