Resident Evil 4 was my Grandpa's favourite videogame and he got me into gaming, we used to play it so much together when I was a kid, I wish he could experience this masterpiece with me again. So happy to know Resi 4 Remake is as amazing as I hoped it would be. For the snarky people asking he was in his mid 50's when we played the original Resi 4, people of all ages play video games, not just 12 year olds, he would have been like 67 this year
A small little detail that I love is when Leon first throws a grenade after finding Ashley, she tells Leon to give her a bit of a warning next time. And I was delighted to hear Leon say various warnings to Ashley throughout the game when you're about to throw a grenade and she's with you
What I loved from the demo and I don't see people talk about is that Leon actually speaks Spanish with the locals. It was always weird to me that they sent Leon to Spain for a thorough investigation and not have him speak a lick of proper Spanish or at least attempt it. It always made me chuckle in the original when he meets his first local and barges in his home speaking full blown English
@@ltvirgil helps him retain that boy scout goodboy vibe from RE2, but just that bit more stoic now. He's still got glimmers. Though, I do wonder if that smoother transition isn't just from a writing perspective, and also because the actor for both remakes has remained consistent. So he can give his take on Leon moving on from that a lot more accurately?
One of the funniest things to me is how ashley interacts with leon, just out of blue she'll say something, "Like seriously WHO does that?" when doing some death defying shit
@@snailthelostcow63not gonna lie the first time I heard him say that after the chandelier swing I bursted out laughing that was a genuine funny retort 😂
@@bravo075 nahhh, younger kids are gonna love it too. It’s not like Resident Evil is some low key “only 90’s babies remember” franchise. It’s remained huge and relevant ever since these games’ original release. In face 7 and Village were probably some of their biggest releases. They couldn’t have chose a better time to do all these remakes and the fact that the new console generation is still somewhat scarce on fully next gen titles means kids are gonna go for this game even easier. And lastly, the game is CRUSHING IT in reviews and reception. All this to say, you’re waaay off lol. It’ll be adored by Everyone. As it should be.
@@ThatSamoanGuy my brother has never played resident evil 4 and loves remake. but besides the point, when a game as well known and popular as resident evil 4 gets remade is there an issue with people liking it because they have nostalgia, since when did liking something good about the past become some kinda dirty word
I gotta say, I prefer Luis in this expanded role, he actually feels like a fully realised character here instead of an awkward side character like the original. And Ashley and Leon checking in on one another after difficult enemy encounters was cool!
I wouldn't say fully realized , as when he discloses why he's helping, he dies. His journey with Leon honestly is still too short. Better but could've been more
Gameplay is great but the script writing is bland. They took away all the best B movie cheesy line away. It's because of this all the characters are now easily unfavorable.
@@Foun_D_OnePiece Nah, Leon and Ashley are much better off. Especially Leon. B movie is called B movie for a reason and this games overall quality is anything but "b movie" material
@@UnifiedEntity bro New Leon is Emo with ptsd, New Ashley breathes like an obese person, got no personality and she only response to compliments like she never had one in her life. Classic Leon is vibing cool Classic Ashley is a bitchy drama queen when she's gets in trouble.
I think the thing that had me smiling the most out of the entire journey is so small that most might experience and not even really care. It was during the shooting range how ashley or the other one will comment on how you are doing and cheer for you during the range sections. Such a small detail that made me go holy shit this is so fucking cool!
Exactly! Or when you hit a really faraway headshot or blue medallion and Ashley would cheer. And in the shooting gallery, after she commented on your performance, you turn around and there she was, sitting on a barrel and just having fun watching you. That was special!
I haven’t played it yet, but hearing this makes me happy and reminds me of The Evil Within 2, where Nurse Tatiana and Sebastian will both react to how you do on the shooting gallery minigames.
5:14 The reloads are actually SO much better by default by having Leon putting the spare magazine with bullets still in it back into his pouch and drop it completely if it’s empty.😮
Hearing Ashley yell at Leon for not warning her about throwing a grenade on my first playthrough actually caused me to pause the game and give myself a moment to just laugh nonstop at how reasonable her claim is. Leon and Ashley's interaction with each other throughout the entire game is super engaging and is definitely gonna be a constant joy hearing over and over again on new playthroughs.
For me one of the best early moment was when I was creeping around the farm and trying to stealth kill the ganados, and suddenly I hear Ashley go "Leon watch out!" and I turn a bit and see a dude coming at me with a pitchfork, deflect it with my knife and kick his teeth in. That made me pause for a second and go "Thanks Ashley, much appreciated" IRL 🙂 I'm currently at the castle front gates and I'm already seeing a lot of signs of her trending towards becoming a "heroic civilian", easily one of my favorite tropes from 90s movies (Sandra Bullock's character in the movie Speed is a perfect example of this), as well as their dynamic starting to look a lot like John Connor and the T-800, ergo both doing what they can to the best of their abilities and working as a team. It is exactly what I was hoping to see ever since the announcement, and I'm so happy to get my wish fulfilled 😁
I teared up a bit when first meeting the merchant ngl. I don't know what I was expecting but hearing the same exact lines in a slightly different voice and the little comment he sometimes makes about his back hurting when he adds "I guess time hasn't been kind to us" made me so nostalgic
The hardest challenge this game presents on your first playthrough is trying not to say his lines along with him. I couldn't help but drop an "ahhh, not only will you need cash, but you'll need GUTS to buy that weapon"
I actually cheered when Leon made the Bingo joke after the first skirmish. It was truly the best possible remake for my all time favorite childhood game
One small detail they included in the remake that I haven't seen anyone point out, when Leon is aiming his handgun at a target that's right in front of him, he pulls his elbows in the same way special forces are taught to when clearing corners and doors, so that enemies would (theoretically) have a harder time reaching forward and grabbing his gun, although obviously Ganados don't actually attempt to take your gun away in the game.
They improved Ashley's character so much I actually wanted her around more. She's so sweet in this game. Capcom put way more effort into making her someone you actually want to protect, and she's become one of my favourite RE characters.
I was 19, maybe 20 when the original came out. My roommate and I stayed up late to grab a midnight release copy, stocked up on soda and chips and gamed for days. Some of my fondest memories are sitting on our living room floor, two best friends since childhood, passing the controller back and forth, making jokes and growing deathly silent during moments of high stress. Now the remake is out, and I'm seeing my eldest nephew, at sixteen, going through the exact same process. Staying up late so he can start playing as SOON as it drops. Hanging out with friends over Discord, making jokes and growing deathly silent during moments of high stress. THIS is what gaming is all about. Making some of the best memories you'll ever have.
imo the huge difference is that hardly anyone wants to meet up to play anymore😅 Everyone sits at home, and Discord isn't really an alternative for real human interaction. That's sad tbh. I've been doing game parties for years at my house in 2012~2018 but stopped because the people were either too competitive, too uninterested in "looking at a monitor all the time" (mind you they alternatively ALSO just as well looked at a monitor when not showing up), or they played on their own. Multiplayer games aren't always good, and people have no patience playing single player games the way you did back in the days.
Based on what I've seen from the demo and the footage you've shown here, it really looks like capcom walked the perfect line between being faithful and introducing new or improved stuff with this one. Very excited for the full release.
@Rick Ross Is that the lizard boss in the cave section everyone forgets about every playthrough? Its a cool boss but I'm not too torn up if thats the case. I've got over 40 playthroughs and I legit forget about it every playthrough lol
@RED PK184 Even more of a reason to Remake Code Veronica because he gets a big playable section. I agree that his appearances in the last 2 numbered games were pretty bad. To me, it felt like they just made a new character and called him Chris Redfield.
The original Resident Evil 4 was my introduction to the series. I have so many fond memories of it and seeing Capcom remake it with such effort and passion just brings a tear to my eye. I didn’t even think that they were going to make it available for last gen consoles - it's like the Merchant came over to my door and was like "Got something that might interest ya, stranger."
One thing to add about the remake that I guess is subjective, but I think improved from the original, is that the Plagas inside Leon and Ashley do now effect gameplay. In the original, there are only a few brief cut-scenes that show Leon is effected by the parasite, that never interrupts gameplay, but in the remake, there are times when you get around other infected that have the ability to command the other infected to their bidding, and when they do this, both Ashley and Leon winces in headaches, not able to focus as they're in pain, flashing red on the screen as hoards are surrounding you, as you try to regain yourself to shoot. It makes it more challenging and from a story perspective, you can feel him battling the Plagas from within, versus just seeing it during a cut-scene. I really liked this change in remake.
Same here, and it's something I was hoping the developers would do. I was saying ever since this game was announced that I wanted at least one instance where the parasite affected Leon during gameplay.
I don't know if Suzi is autistic or not, but as an autistic person it makes me unbelievably happy to hear her infodump so enthusiastically and freely the way she does, and to see her being admired and celebrated for it.
@@OANCER Yeah I think it’s double edged sword. It hypes up the game but spoils it as well. I got spoiled even of this video because she showed areas not many videos show lol
One little detail I liked was how Leon will help Ashley up some vaulting points if she's close enough to him. The way they could both fatigue and breathe heavily after running I found myself resting and walking a lot more than expected, kudos to making them feel human, needing a break once in a while.
“Monsters, guess after this there’ll be one less to worry about” The sheer confidence in his voice, the anger in his tone and that death stare at salazar when he delivered the line. It was at that moment i fell in love with this game and this character leon scott kennedy. I was 10-12 back than and now I’m 25. And i’ve teared up time and again to see how good a job capcom has done.
This is what I talked about before I don't understand why they removed golden dialogue like this. I understand there was stuff in the original that were just downright cheese but this line was fucking awesome. At least the Salazar fight in the remake was much better though
@@philthethotdestroyer4194 nice. I’ve tried so hard to avoid spoilers for the game, but today it’s like every video for it on UA-cam has footage of something I don’t want to see until I actually play the game. Was legendary in 2005 and still legendary in 2023! The team absolutely poured their heart into it and i am happy its best rated game this year so far "not that it matter" but that's amazing for dev especially seeing capcom tweet
@Rick Ross *trading off* content is actually more apt. U3 is only thing cut outside of QTE segments really, And in return we got brand new enemies, New boss fights (Krauser First encounter instead of QTE it's a Boss fight) and new weapons ect. And like 95% of the OGs campaign is in tact. so we got more new things then what was cut. That said Seperate ways Being a a dlc is Unfortunate but leakers say it's Going to have More content and be longer then OG Seperate ways, rumors is U3 was actually put into seperate ways for Ada to fight instead also which if true would be awesome. @@Drakkon1997 not at all, i never based a lot on reviews AT ALL, i had the game for few days now and its absolutely insane, you're in for a treat, it is legendary
My favorite thing about the RE4 Remake is that it does *exactly* what I hoped it would do: it recontextualizes Leon not as a post 9/11 Counterterrorist Hero, but as a haunted warrior going to hell and back so he can have the skills, the *POWER* he needs to save others. He never wants to see another Raccoon City and he will work himself to the bones to do it. It's such a fantastic glowup to the little innocent boy he was in RE2Make that I can't help but love it. Even better is how that quest for power in a world gone mad mirror's Krauser's descent into madness. Both men want power, but for different reasons. It's A+ stuff.
I mean it just kinda justifies us preordering the game at least LOL. Last time I preordered remake 3 and was so disappointed. Remake 4 looks amazing though
Idk who the actress for Ashley is but she was amazing. I actually felt her fear/caring in her voice. She made me care about a character this time around.
I agree. Her voice is absolutely harrowing in certain scenes. She sounds genuinely terrified. Apparently it's the same actor who played Jill in RE3 remake!
Without spoiling anything for anyone who hasn't got there yet, Krauser's updated role in the story is genuinely incredible. I love his boss fights and his new dynamic with Leon as his former instructor (you kinda see this in the intro, but it gets expanded upon) are so fun to experience, and his conclusion is one of the standout moments of the game imo.
I've had this game since April 2nd, I have 158 hours, my platinum trophy on Playstation, everything in-game unlocked.........and I still CAN NOT STOP PLAYING IT!! Such a fantastic game, I didn't even play the original (wasn't into horror survival in '05 as i was 12) and I'm completely hooked
Its more that escort missions have typically been bad and lots of people played re4 as a first entry so adjusting to tank controls was hard. Add in a helpless college girl who screams a lot and it's just not ideal for new comers. It's nothing personal Ashley, and I'm excited to see how it goes this time around
I've been very impressed by the RE4 remake, particularly in how much better written it is, both compared to the original RE4 and compared to the other current generation RE games. There's so many little things to demonstrate that characterization, motivation, emotion, etc were all far more considered than they ever have been for the series, right from the intro cutscene where when Leon, instead of covering his backstory as "the racoon city incident," specifically flashes back on the people who died that he cared about in RE2. And once you meet Ashley, the way Leon and Ashley check in with each other after fights, asking if the other is okay, is so cute.
It's true RE4 doesn't need remake treatment. But Gosh darn it, after replaying RE4 for the 100th time or so, you wonder how would the game look and feel in the modern RE engine. I guess we have the answer now. Thanks for the amazing content as always Suzi.
So, about a month ago, I played the original for the first time. So far, the thing I'm still the most impressed with, is how I'm feeling the exact same difficulty curve I felt on my first playthrough. I love how the games difficulty are suggested by if you've played the original or not
One little detail I love they added is with guns like the Silver Ghost if you do a partial reload you have an extra round in the chamber. While i'm probably the only person who has been irked that it doesn't work like that in a lot of shooters I think its a cool little detail, especially since Leon has a different reload animation depending on if its a full or partial reload.
I wish they did that with all the guns, in theory it should work on every closed bolt detach mag gun, and even stripper clip fed guns u can cram an extra round in if u push the rounds down while one is in the chamber when closing the bolt
@@lambsauce5312 that’s not how it really works, you don’t cram an extra round in that won’t work on most guns, most games do this, let’s say the mag capacity is 30 rounds, they just use the mag capacity and don’t take into account that there would be one in the chamber too so that would make it 31 rounds, you don’t have to cram in extra one in the mag for that, all you have to do is chamber one round then take the mag out and put one more in it making it full again
@@cameronmillspaugh1601 i didn't say that, i meant holding the rounds of a full mag down in a gun with an internal mag and closing the bolt with one in the chamber
@@RighthandfrombehindDepends on your definition of bad. Lot of people were pissed at the RE3 remake’s missing content. Not a bad game mechanically, but left a lot of people wanting the “missing” parts from the original.
Resident Evil 4 is the first game in the series I finished to completion. It's also the first game my mom, bless her soul, actually sat and watched me play on the GameCube and was actually invested in it. I hadn't known they remade it until this week.
“Every single gun sounds beefy”. ABSOLUTELY! They all sound so glorious especially playing with amplified headphones. It’s indeed a phenomenal game. Can’t wait to start my second playthrough on hardcore this time. 18 hours to complete the first.
"Her appearances are as limited as her acting." LOL! I was a huge fan of Ada in the original RE2 and 4. But it sucks in later games they kinda messed her up (at least for me). I like what they did with her in 2, she felt more humanized and did seem to care despite the fan backlash. It wasn't the VA's fault by far, she did amazing. It was just the way she was written and they seem to not really capture her very well since the Re4 tbh which sucks. I think the VA change was off-putting for her and Claire (specially in Revelations 2) - I hated what they with Ada in 6, and her side story I didn't care for there either. Obviously this is an opinion, not a fact.
I mean there was a very concern look to her when leon wants to keep pressing on,especially telling him to leave the girl and get out of there. I don’t think she was necessarily using leon entirely it might be the voice acting her face looked like she was incredibly worried. Remember Ada does have to keep a poker face.
@@xavierpeterson7139 true its like this was intentional and I don't really think the acting is that bad... I thought the older adas sounded so over the top like call s €x-workers but not like a cold blooded special agent
18 YEARS LATER, Resident Evil 4 is still a *MASTERPIECE* . We only get to live *ONCE* guys, take the time to enjoy it , live it , hit the Fahrenheit with it , and morb to the Remake. Make love to this remake like you do with your girlfriends or wife, finish it and let it sit in your thoughts 💭 and play it again
Lol no. The word masterpiece has been so overused, and it isn't given to something like this remake which egregiously cut content from the original just like the bogus 3make.
I'm good. The thought of stopping to shoot after playing re2 remake is too jarring. I can admire it from a playthrough on UA-cam.....but I will enjoy this remake
So glad to hear everything you had to say about it. RE4 is not my absolute favorite, but it is my most replayed game of all time. I can't count the number of times I've replayed it across three generations. It's my comfort game too, when I just want to relax and have a good time, the OG is the one I always turn on and play. Hopefully this Remake becomes the same thing for me.
The broken butterfly reload was pretty sick in the original. The way he breaks it up and casually dumps everything over his shoulder before tossing round after round into the cylinder was so cool. Wish they kept it in the remake.
@@albertoandrade9807if Leon has trouble finishing a fight, he wrenches his muscles in stress and pain. If he completes a battle easily, he scoffs it off and wipes blood off of his face.
I only discovered your channel very recently and I cannot stop binge watching all your game analysis. You have such good knowledge of the previous titles and your description does not use overly pompous or reviewer like literature. I love how simple yet how elaborate it is ❤
This review has given me extremely high hopes for the game. The reviews online that give it 8-10/10's give me high hopes for the game. The fact I've put in about 10 hours into the demo makes me have extremely high hopes for this game. God I want to play this game so bad right now
You have no idea how excited I am for this game to come out. I'll be playing it together with my brother - someone with which I've played the original countless of times already. I have seen nothing but positive reviews and you shedding some light on a possibly lesser Ada is somewhat refreshing. I'll see for myself how much I'll let it impact my opinion. Personally always thought Saddler was the weakest link in the original, so I'm extremely glad to hear he got such a big change.
Tbh, the one boss fight they cut makes a lot of sense, it's one of the more annoying parts of the original and with the pacing of remake, putting it in would probably result in something almost like a boss rush considering where it is in the game. Honestly shocked at how much they kept in/reworked. If anything, there are some parts from the original I honestly hoped they would cut. Not gonna name any names. *Spoilers below* *Cough* Catapults *Cough* Also I freaking love that they went all in with making Krauser a Vergil meme, it has to be self aware LOL
Plus the low amount of resources you get and the high amount of bullets it takes to beat enemies, cutting a boss out helps to keep the game from feeling impossible.
I love how limited the laser sight is for how useful it is. I went blackmail my first play through (hardcore), but I plan on going silver ghost for professional run. The game flow and action is so addicting that I want to start a ng than ng+. I barely had any ammo on the island, but moving so fast in combat while keeping count of ammo is just satisfying.
The reviews have been looking pretty stellar so far, this one included. A bit sad that Ada is so lackluster in the main story, but I have a feeling Separate Ways will dial her up to 11. Can't wait to play in just a few hours time!
This game is incredible. In my opinion it's just as good as the original, if not better. For one thing I love how they handled Leon’s character. His sharp wit and dry sense of humor are still very much intact. His voice is absolutely dripping with sarcasm. At the same time, they did a fantastic job making him feel more human this time around. In scenes such as after he kills Krauser or when he finds Ashley and sits next to the bed while he waits for her to wake up, you can tell that everything is starting to get to him. Unfortunately for him, he doesn’t have time to dwell on these thoughts and instead has to push them aside and focus on the mission. Unlike the original, it feels like he’s trying not to let things bother him because he can’t afford to, not because he doesn’t care. I think the voice actors (with the exception of Ada’s. No offense to the actor, but she just sounds so...emotionless) absolutely nail their roles. Leon’s line deliveries are great (he’s such a smartass, I love him). Ashley sounds genuinely terrified this time around. The scene where the parasite is being removed is just...so chilling. Her agonized screams are harrowing (I also love how Leon tries to comfort her during this scene. I just love their sibling dynamic so much). The antagonists also feel a lot more threatening here than they did in the original. Mendez is more intimidating, Salazar is more creepy, and Saddler is more unsettling. Saddler especially made me feel uneasy when he was on screen. It makes me wish he would have appeared more often. I also love how they handled the parasite and how they show the infection progressively getting worse. The stakes feel so much higher and the parasite feels like a genuine threat. It's something that's actually worth worrying about. Overall this game is just...so good. You can tell that Capcom wanted to respect the original as much as possible. They took what made the original great to begin with and managed to make it better. They had a clear understanding of what should be reworked and what should stay the same. I also love how the game has a perfect balance of being silly during some moments, but grim during others. It knows when it needs to be taken seriously.
Very well said. As a huge fan of the original, I can honestly say that I loved this remake. I was especially impressed by the emotional depth they added to the characters and their dialogue. In the original, the dialogue was hammy and thankfully brief; in this game every line is well written, sounds natural, and tells you a lot about the character. Also, the boss fight with Lord Saddler was much better than in the original.
@@MrDabman123 Yes, yes, exactly! The writing as a whole feels significantly better. The characters are more developed and fleshed out, with their own distinct personalities and far more depth. They’re no longer generic and one dimensional like in the original. Character interactions feel more natural and less forced, the story is more coherent and less messy and overall ties together nicely, there are recurring themes, the use of symbolism, and parallels to earlier scenes. Everything feels more thought out. I love the original and I still think it’s a good game, but I do have a slight preference for the remake. A big reason for that is because of how the story and characters are handled.
I don’t get what you people say about Ada’s VA I think she did a very good job. She sounds like a secretive, condescending opportunistic agent she’s more realistic in this version she’s really not to show emotion or even be helping Leon but she still does to a degree. People really nitpick at an all time high nowadays 😅
@@TheKing8608_ It’s not nitpicking. Her performance is not on the same level as the other actors. The problem is that it sounds as though the voice actress is the one who is bored and uncaring, not the character. There’s a big difference.
This is good news!!!! I am so pumped to play this game! Sad to hear ada's character won't be expanded upon in this remake seeing how much chemistry leon and ada had in the re2 remake. Although in the OG re4 she wasn't in much of the main story either. Gonna be nice to see this game through fresh eyes.
It's weird though because that interview capcom did with game informer said ada has a bigger role this time so to hear this is a bit confusing, but what they probably mean is a bigger role with separate ways
I love how in-depth you went on this spoiler free review. Your passion, how you talk about it, etc. I'm saddened that my worries about Ada became a reality. From the story trailer I've noticed that her voice acting sounded off, like bad (or bored as you put it). That was the only concern I had, which you confirmed. That's unfortunate, but thanks for sharing! Hopefully the Separate Ways DLC does indeed fix that! Thank you for your honesty though! Loved how you constructed this review. After playing the demo multiple times, I cannot wait for the final product!
The more you praise it, the more I feel being robbed for preordering RE3 years ago. Capcom needs to update and expand RE3 !!! Edit:And as an Ada fans, heard your thoughts, I really felt betrayed even haven’t played the game yet. Really hope Ada DLC delivers a good story.
I'm actually kinda depressed that they managed to biff Ada so badly. One of the things I was most looking forward to was seeing how they improved on the dynamic between Ada and Leon in this game. It was always weird seeing Leon shrug off the fact that Ada was alive in the original. Well at least my expectations are tempered now, not that they weren't after hearing Ada's voice in the first trailer lol.
I know... The problem I had was he learned off-screen, which totally takes away from any emotional weight the scene could've had. And we'll never get that weighty scene from the sound of it.
Glad she pointed out the rain. The game looks really good in general but on occasion I noticed that some things (like animals) didn't have shadows. Hopefully the day 1 patch will fix some of the visual weirdness.
I’m almost done with the remake, but I gotta say, one of the things that I love most are the changes to Ashley. I now actually feel connected with her in game, and she’s not annoying anymore. She’s super sweet and the chemistry between her and Leon is vibrant; taking her with you into the shooting range is so cute as she cheers you on
One thing I absolutely hate that they cut from the original was possessed Leon attacking Ada, but after he comes to, all she thought about was his safety. That could’ve been a major moment in this remake.
I'm disappointed they cut that scene, mainly because I think it would've been so cool to see them expand on it. We’ve seen throughout the game that Saddler can command people who are infected without being near them. Imagine if they had included that scene and we could actually see/hear Saddler give Leon the order to attack Ada. We could've seen Leon desperately trying to resist Saddler's control and ultimately losing the fight over his own body. We could’ve seen him trying to warn Ada as she approaches to see what's wrong, knowing that he’s not going to be able to stay in control for much longer. The scene would've also worked as a parallel to Ashley attacking Leon earlier in the castle.
kinda late but I think they might be saving that scene for seperate ways. Leon was unconscious and on the floor after he removed the plagas from ashley, she could have never lifted him up to the chair on her own. I think Ada will have have a boss fight against leon.
@@EmilioVega-q3g Ada got captured and tied-up by Saddler, though. As much as I want this, it doesn’t make sense for Ada to beat Saddler, go to the lab and fight Leon, get captured again by Saddler presumably still in the laboratory, and Saddler taking her to lure Leon to him even though he and Ashley are in the same room.
Excellent video! I loved the explanation of Leon's physical mechanics as the trained badass he is now, versus him as a fledgling officer years back. I'm also a sucker for character interactions that actually have meaning in games.
I wanted to add onto what you said about getting Ashley from someone taking her away, in my playthrough of the game I’ve seen one or two people surround the carrier, making it difficult to retrieve her which comes off as unique
@@mrcocoloco7200 most people had problems pre patch, i personally liked the fight but its definitly the worst in the game, besides del lago (which is pretty much the same fight in classic RE4 with the most minor of changes )which says more about the other boss fights
Sphere Hunter has become my go to for any and all things when it comes to survival horror games, a true and honest pillar of the horror gaming community.
This review has 100% confirmed my decision to preorder the deluxe edition. This game was such a huge part of my childhood, and I was actually in the middle of replaying the game when the remake was announced. I can't wait until the 24th, when I'll be able to experience the game in a new light again.
Suzy, I gotta say, I absolutely lost my shit during the knife fight. Back in the day, Metal Gear and Resident Evil were my bread and butter so this felt like a perfect blend of my two loves. Plus the dynamic of Mentor/Student with Leon and Krauser just brought me back to those days of The Boss vs Naked Snake and I've not felt this nostalgic about games since RE Village had me flashing back to the original RE4. 10/10 game, concise and spot on review.
Not gonna lie, seeing the love that was poured into this game REALLY makes me hope they give my personal favorite RE, number 5, the same treatment. Damn I would love that.
While I’m in the opposite spectrum, with 5 being my least favorite in the series. I’m also very intrigued at a RE5 remake. I wonder what they’ll do improve on a game I personally disliked a lot.
What bothered me about RE5 is that Chris & Jill were the obvious duo for the game, but we got Sheva instead for some reason. Having Jill there would have tied it in with the beginnings of the series and I'm baffled that Capcom decided not to do it. If they do remake it, I hope they retcon Sheva's role in the game and give us Jill.
One thing I noticied is the textures and overall graphical quality in this village footage you present is superior to the one the public has trialed in the demo. The demo gameplay is untouched from mid 2022 in comparison to the final product seen here.
Haven't watched any footage here to not spoil anything visually I did find the PS5 demo image to be a little soft even on resolution mode. If there is a noticeable improvement from the demo, that would be great news if the demo was an earlier build compared to the final product.
@@ShigKirby It was the same demo game journalists experienced when capcom flew them out to Japan in the fall last year. The picture quality looks slightly better in this footage.
I did noticed how the PS5 demo looked really bad like actually extremely blurry until i changed a bunch of settings and it got a lil bit better ( not much btw) i honestly think it was a bug or something and hopefully they fix it when the full game releases because i'm 100% getting it but it would be nice it if looked better
As one of the few people that actually enjoyed RE3 remake. I was still uber hype for the RE4 Remake. Which has only grown more with the release date drawing near. Hunter’s glowing in review only adds to the anticipation.
From the sound of it and from the footage I see here I think RE4R will be the best remake since RE1R. It sticks extremely close to the original down to the exact same layout of areas and enemy behaviors while also adding new stuff for returning players, and on top of everything improved mechanics and gameplay that enhance the original's feel without completely changing how the game works and plays, it's literally the best thing you could ask for in a remake.
@@TheGintama86 No, it's a remake, RE2R is also a remake, they're both remakes. A remaster is what RE1R got after where they upscale the game and make it look more HD since it's a 2002 game.
The area layouts are far from the exact same, they're quite different. Things are shuffled around, remixed, and often remade entirely. 99% of the original is in the remake in some form but it's often represented differently.
@@TheGintama86 If you played the OG Re1 you’d know how wrong you are right now. Remake1 is definitely a remake, it had new mechanics, new area, cut useless areas and upgraded everything, that’s a remake.
The reference to the RE3.5 beta with the falling deer head during the segment where one plays as Ashley put a stupid grin on my face, that whole section felt like it was inspired by that early demo in the visual aesthetics and setting

She clearly doesn't know what survival horror is. Fine that she didn't like callisto, but saying it wasn't survival horror is the most ignorant thing she has ever said. Dead space and this game are action horror and so is callisto. If she calls this game SH in this video I'm gonna shit because it's no more survival than the other two
I will not deny that the original is fantastic, especially for the time, but the controls were really what kept me from getting into it. the remake is excellent, and I'm so happy they updated it for more modern audiences to enjoy.
I really wish they took more time with Resident Evil 3 remake, the more I see and play the demo of RE4 remake, the more sad I get because RE3 deserved this type of love and effort but I'm really happy that they got this right!
going from the re2 remake to this (although i adore both equally, and theyre clearly going for different things entirely) really showed how insane capcom can get with their combat. each gun in this game packs a huge punch
Ah, Suzie, this game made me relive my childhood, that's how amazing it was, though I do get a little sad that for this masterpiece to happen, RE3 remake had to happen first. I take solace that Capcom learned their lesson and hope they keep it going forward.
When the Merchant first showed up I couldn't help but to shout in excitement. probably freaked out my neighbors but who cares if they're sane they would've done the same
At first I was concerned about this remake back when the rumors came out but now that I’ve seen all the trailers I’m looking forward to playing this game.
Re4 remake is sooo good. It's an epic adventure masterpiece of action survival horror. I'm not sure I love this game more than the Re2 remake, but it's very close. They made this game feel so tense at all times. You feel like you're barely surviving each moment of being mobbed, and it has these slower paced moments of horror where you're moving thru a dark house or dark corridors where you hear these creepy chants or monstrous sounds echoing. Capcom really made this such an atmospheric experience. It's just so good, and it really feels like a realistic development of Leon's character from the Re2 remake. I love it.
@@yharnamiyhill787 What does that word even mean? It's irrelevant to her writing in this series. She was much more "woke" originally, so is your brain rotting?
As a Spaniard, I'm so happy that the villagers and the Iluminados actually have a Castillian Spanish accent instead of the original's Mexican/neutral Latin American accent
Same here. Hearing Spaniard swears and general phrases was what I was hoping to hear. They clearly went out of their way to make sure to get that right. Also Leon saying "busco un policia. Vino aqui?" was so cool to hear instead of just trying to talk to the locals in English haha Edit: Also, hearing them pluralise their threats when you're with Ashley is a nice touch. "Puedes correr, pero no te puedes escondir!" becomes "podeis correr, pero no les podeis escondir!" Nice touch.
@UnifiedEntity I just spent 4 hours straight on it and I'll tell you what man, it is much more enjoyable than it's original counterpart, which wasn't boring by anymeans. But if it's boring to you, nobody should have anything against you for that, it is your opinion.
It’s cool to see the old body despawning mechanic where they melt into the floor make a return as well. It feels cool because the bodies stay long enough so that you can have fun with the ragdoll if that’s your thing, while also keeping the mechanic.
it also helps tension, as in the earlygame the ganados with their heads barely attached lay still for a few seconds too, meaning you can just walk past without noticing, expecting them to dissolve off screen, or you can end up aiming at one waiting for it to get up only for it to dissolve

A small little detail that I love is when Leon first throws a grenade after finding Ashley, she tells Leon to give her a bit of a warning next time. And I was delighted to hear Leon say various warnings to Ashley throughout the game when you're about to throw a grenade and she's with you
OMG TRUE I never noticed that!

Best Remake of all time IMHO
What I loved from the demo and I don't see people talk about is that Leon actually speaks Spanish with the locals. It was always weird to me that they sent Leon to Spain for a thorough investigation and not have him speak a lick of proper Spanish or at least attempt it. It always made me chuckle in the original when he meets his first local and barges in his home speaking full blown English
Well he says things like “hasta luego” so I guess he chooses not to speak it haha
I like his fumbling attempt; makes the character that much more charming lol.
@@ltvirgil helps him retain that boy scout goodboy vibe from RE2, but just that bit more stoic now. He's still got glimmers. So he can give his take on Leon moving on from that a lot more accurately?
That and the villagers actually speak spain Spanish now and not Mexican Spanish lmao

One of the funniest things to me is how ashley interacts with leon, just out of blue she'll say something, "Like seriously WHO does that?" when doing some death defying shit

That made me pause for a second and go "Thanks Ashley, much appreciated" IRL 🙂
I'm currently at the castle front gates and I'm already seeing a lot of signs of her trending towards becoming a "heroic civilian", easily one of my favorite tropes from 90s movies (Sandra Bullock's character in the movie Speed is a perfect example of this), as well as their dynamic starting to look a lot like John Connor and the T-800, ergo both doing what they can to the best of their abilities and working as a team.

Well said, my friend. Gaming can build wonderful memories.
thats a fact right there....gaming memories have been some of my best memories

@@symbiote3220 I disagree, this game is definitely going to be timeless.

Hopefully when Separate Ways comes out, it will show that Ada did care about Leon but she doesn’t show it in front of Leon
I guess they could have kicked off the 6 storyline way earlier in the remake-verse, it would be an explanation for the Ada changes.
I liked Ada's story line in six.
Her interaction across all of 6s storylines was Interesting.

Make love to this remake like you do with your girlfriends or wife, finish it and let it sit in your thoughts 💭 and play it again
Bingo ladies, NB folks and gentlemen! Bingo.
Lol no. The word masterpiece has been so overused, and it isn't given to something like this remake which egregiously cut content from the original just like the bogus 3make.
@@theDerekWilder So far from the leaks, it only cut a little portion , not important sections like RE3
@@theDerekWilder no, it’s not like re3 make at all. They cut content and replaced it, they also kept important parts.
That's one thing I do miss

Been looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this!! You’re my favorite survival horror game reviewer :) have a good day!

Totally, same.
Bingo ladies, NB folks and gentlemen! Bingo.
God I want to play this game so bad right now
Luis and Ashley in this game I ADORE!!! Definitely tugging at my heartstrings I felt for them so much and wanted to protect them in every way possible
dont forget mike!!! saddest death of an auxillery faceless side character in re history
*Spoilers below*
*Cough* Catapults *Cough*
Also I freaking love that they went all in with making Krauser a Vergil meme, it has to be self aware LOL
Plus the low amount of resources you get and the high amount of bullets it takes to beat enemies, cutting a boss out helps to keep the game from feeling impossible.
I'm betting It'll end up in Separate Ways.
I can't wait to play this, been replaying the demo over and over.
@@waynefowler782 yeah I think he was talking about separate ways after hearing how limited her role was in the main story line.
Hopefully we won't have to long of await from what I hear it will be more fleshed out and added to it hope it drops the same time mercenaries does.
@@MrMango-og7je In the OG Leon already knows Ada is alive, that's why he asks if it's true that she is working with Wesker.
Hopefully the day 1 patch will fix some of the visual weirdness.
so that's why they looked kinda off-putting, lol
I’m almost done with the remake, but I gotta say, one of the things that I love most are the changes to Ashley. I now actually feel connected with her in game, and she’s not annoying anymore. She’s super sweet and the chemistry between her and Leon is vibrant; taking her with you into the shooting range is so cute as she cheers you on
Ikr? I absolutely adore her in the remake.

Wait.. so Leon is still using the knife that Marvin gave him years ago? That's actually a cool detail if true.
One thing I absolutely hate that they cut from the original was possessed Leon attacking Ada, but after he comes to, all she thought about was his safety. That could’ve been a major moment in this remake.
Glad they cut that
I'm disappointed they cut that scene, mainly because I think it would've been so cool to see them expand on it.
That’s one cutscene i was sad to see go too. In fact the only one. This could’ve been such a curveball.
kinda late but I think they might be saving that scene for seperate ways.
Your retrospectives are always awesome, covering everything in detail and being open up about your opinions

I like Leon’s more bitter and impatient tone with his one liners. It adds to his character development across these six years and his guilt from RE2.

20:05 I loved Ashley, escorting her was a challenge at times but not annoying.she was helpful in progressing in the game.
Not gonna lie, seeing the love that was poured into this game REALLY makes me hope they give my personal favorite RE, number 5, the same treatment. Damn I would love that.
me too i hope we get an announcement soon
Me three
Me four. I absolutely love 5 as it's my favorite design of Jill in the series in her B.S.A.A. outfit
You speak so eloquently and beautiful. And your voice is 🤌

The 1st games not really a remake more like a remaster re2 started thr remake formula
@@TheGintama86 No, it's a remake, RE2R is also a remake, they're both remakes. A remaster is what RE1R got after where they upscale the game and make it look more HD since it's a 2002 game.
@@TheGintama86 RE1R started the remake formula.
On hardcore stealth helps A LOT. Like you can one shot enemies that would otherwise take forever to kill and take half your ammo.

I like how titillated the merchant sounds now with the classic line, "Oo! What're ya buyin'?🎵"
I really wish they took more time with Resident Evil 3 remake, the more I see and play the demo of RE4 remake, the more sad I get because RE3 deserved this type of love and effort but I'm really happy that they got this right!
I wonder what RE3 remake would have been like if it had been given to the in-house team.
going from the re2 remake to this (although i adore both equally, and theyre clearly going for different things entirely) really showed how insane capcom can get with their combat. each gun in this game packs a huge punch

It's been nonstop on my mind since it dropped. Way to much fun, and in my opinion a perfect remake
I love it.
I don't understand why they changed Ada so much. She was so diva, so fierce, so charisma uniqueness nerve and talent. How could they do this to her?

Same here. Hearing Spaniard swears and general phrases was what I was hoping to hear. They clearly went out of their way to make sure to get that right. Also Leon saying "busco un policia. Vino aqui?" was so cool to hear instead of just trying to talk to the locals in English haha
