Haha, this is up there with that Rock 'n Roll hall of fame one they did. Springsteen is one of the best live performers. He's embraced a new guitar style into his music and let it just fit right in there, it's mind blowing how well this song works with that solo, Morello is one of the most original guitar players ever.
I was there last night! This version blew away the one I saw in Anaheim last year. It gave me chills the whole time because I knew what was about to happen.
The Boss is a prophet. My first show and PEOPLE i am sold. BUT, the greatest part of this Great concert, was Tom Morello, playing the greatest solo, to this great song. -The Master of Hyberbole
I had just typed in Prove It all Night live looking for a performance from '75 when I remembered it was a Darkness song, which wouldn't come out for another four years. I agree with you though, this video is sweet.
OMG this was so unbelievable. Also check out the next night with Mike Ness of Social Distortion doing Bad Luck. if you can believe it, Thursday's Springsteen LA show was even better!
@camthebassist harmonics at 12, 7, 5 i think and while he plays that he goes whit a whammy pedal through it, wich changes the notes to higher ones. you can also she him controlling the whammy with his feet
the best tom/bruce version was live at the rock n roll hall of fame concert tom messed up the order of the solo and here it sounded like a screaming cat
yeah,we all know that is just effects, but the idea is to make unique sounds with those effects u say!...if u like it,cool...and if u don't,listen it,it's easy pal.
look. i dont see how i am a problem if i dont like that sound as much as u do. sure i like it when he does that stuff with the pickups, i think its pretty badass. but it gets a little too out of hand sometimes and i like his solos especially when they have a lot of notes. great guitarist. where is the problem?
why all the slagging off of bruce, the man invited the boy on and shared the stage. he himself regularly reworks his own music and would be thrilled at what ratm did with this, that doesn't make the original a yawn, just different. re guitar playing go back and compare bruce at a similar age 1975-78, the man has had a remarkable career, credit where itys due please.
i like this one more because its just more lively the Bruce one is quiet and the rage against the machines one is to loud and head banging but this one is like perfect btw: i luv to headband but it doesn't fit with the song
Alright, sorry for sounding like a tool in my first comment, lemme rephrase that; I personally don't like the solo, but I still respect Morello and he's a great guitarist.
If you look up the word "dichotomy" in the dictionary it should refer you to this - the singing at the start is so full of passion and a quite fantastic delivery, then it gets to the guitar solo and I have to say that is totally inappropriate for me - what is Morello trying to achieve here? that style of guitar playing is for 'cooks' isn't it - notes per second means nothing to me - a shocker of a guitar solo and so unexpected. Stilla great great song and the first part of the performance rocks
I was there last year for both nights and Tom rocked the house!!! The place went absolutely nuts for his performance. This one is even better!

This is sending chills down my spine. I am absolutely speechless.
I was there last night! This version blew away the one I saw in Anaheim last year. It gave me chills the whole time because I knew what was about to happen.
it's about the emotion, that's what makes this video so great.
Looks even more intense than last year's performance. Last night was my 23rd bday! If only I was an Angeleno that night... *tear*
The Boss is a prophet. My first show and PEOPLE i am sold. BUT, the greatest part of this Great concert, was Tom Morello, playing the greatest solo, to this great song.
-The Master of Hyberbole
Possibly the best concert I have ever been too
i love the levels of enthropy that Tom adds to any song ;D
AGREE! It was just incredible to watch/hear!
bad ass!!! this thing gave me goosebumps live!!!
that was unexpected!!still cant wait too see bruce at glastonbury!
man that solo blowed my mind
I had just typed in Prove It all Night live looking for a performance from '75 when I remembered it was a Darkness song, which wouldn't come out for another four years. I agree with you though, this video is sweet.
Same! It's like he is speaking through it!!
I was at the 2008 solo, I prefer that too but this is fantastic stuff!!
to each his own - to me it has a unique expression, and may even enduce a goosebump or 2.
My prob is that I didn't hear the whole song.
WOW AWESOME!!!!
AWESOME!!!
Speechless
I just remembered why Morello is my favorite guitarist
This solo is just...WOW :D
the solo Tom Morello did made me wanna SCREAM!
@currentsnake Glad you put that into words. I've been seating here freaking speechless.
I like this version, its kickass.
No other word to explain this haha

VERY MOVING.
I was there!
The great and only TOM MORELLO.
E-P-I-C! WOOOOOOOOO!!
This song is way under rated( classic)
OMG this was so unbelievable. Also check out the next night with Mike Ness of Social Distortion doing Bad Luck. if you can believe it, Thursday's Springsteen LA show was even better!
This guy is crazy, how doe's he do this!
this might b his best solo yet
this kills -congrats to bruce for lettin tom morello take that fuckin ride!thats the shit -incredible!
Tom doin' Tom, amazing
Tom Morello is so badass.
ron bennington and dave talked about this the other day .i allmost forgot how good tom morello is.
The solo kicks in like an unexpected, unexplained seizure.
Tom is a fu***n legend!!
Morello is still the man on electric strings.
morello !!!!!
Ow! My face just got rocked off!
even though i thought, tom morellos style wouldnt suit this song, it was awesome! great solo
Wow Morello is really into it
WOW
@camthebassist
harmonics at 12, 7, 5 i think and while he plays that he goes whit a whammy pedal through it, wich changes the notes to higher ones. you can also she him controlling the whammy with his feet
Waouh
i must say i did not like this version at first, but i warmed up to it. it rocks. i always prefered the version off of the self titled cd
gostei bastante do wah wah *-*
I love the wah wah the slayer show the ball mto good soil!
I agree that the HoF concert performance was better. The video/sound set-up was much better there, as well.
that shit was crazy
Look for me son, I'll be there...
R.I.P
love
Ma
awhhhh yeahhh thats what its all about
Poor that Tom can't sings but he plays guitar so good that he's one of the best around...
MORELLO IS A FUCKING BEAST!!
@oblivionzones
Way too quiete...but ok. I prefer RatM!
THE SOLO ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Someone have a tab of this?
'Searching' for the ghost of Tom Joad
this solo comes from tom' s soul not from producer's idea to sell a million cd copies. maybe that's the reason some people are surprised.
it makes me sad that they cut this song short. i prefer the 8 minute epic version from 08. nonetheless still awesome beyond words
Bruce Springsteen thinks in the middle of Toms solo: "HOLY FUCK!"
Yeah, youre right. After all, his stuff with RATM was revolutionary. Guess it all just depends on what you're into.
Rage is considered nu-metal (aka rap metal). They were part of the new wave of rap rock and rap metal artists.
That thing around 2:30 is frreakin hard to pull off!! :D
the best tom/bruce version was live at the rock n roll hall of fame concert
tom messed up the order of the solo
and here it sounded like a screaming cat
no but look up
bruce springsteen and tom morello ghost of tom joad-Rock and Roll hall of fame concert
that version is way better and its the original
@dsuchmiel u serious dude!? Springsteen is one of the greatest singers ever!
yeah,we all know that is just effects, but the idea is to make unique sounds with those effects u say!...if u like it,cool...and if u don't,listen it,it's easy pal.
@Ranteal I don't really agree, Tom solo fits completely to the song in my opinion =)
@ Lizardtool
I totally fucking agree lol it was crap sitting through his sponsorship video...xD
I like Nils' solos WAY better because he actually LISTENS to the music playing around him... Morello just plays as many notes as he can.
fuckin good
2:27 - 2:38 = EPIC!
@RafaCarraro27 Absolutely Fucking AMAZING!! 2:27
look. i dont see how i am a problem if i dont like that sound as much as u do. sure i like it when he does that stuff with the pickups, i think its pretty badass. but it gets a little too out of hand sometimes and i like his solos especially when they have a lot of notes. great guitarist. where is the problem?
FUCKING BEAST
Oh, you're so clever. It's not like this is a year later, is it?
Shredding during a Springsteen's song? Eurgh....
@Dhanijel1 but i had THE feeling
If Bruce clearly respects him so much, why can't you just a little?
5 people cant handle the atomic bomb that Tom just dropped on us!
why all the slagging off of bruce, the man invited the boy on and shared the stage. he himself regularly reworks his own music and would be thrilled at what ratm did with this, that doesn't make the original a yawn, just different. re guitar playing go back and compare bruce at a similar age 1975-78, the man has had a remarkable career, credit where itys due please.
11
I like the laconic folk version way better. Just Bruce with his acoustic guitar and harmonica.
Is Springsteen saying "Switch it ghost of Tom Joad"?
sweet, youtube probably doesnt do justice then huh? lol
@camthebassist u r a bassist????
cool version, my eyes cant follow his fingers lol
@gamesaddict He probably changes them daily.
2:25 is nastyyyyyyyy!
i like this one more because its just more lively the Bruce one is quiet and the rage against the machines one is to loud and head banging but this one is like perfect
btw: i luv to headband but it doesn't fit with the song
I have to say that i wish that i like when tom morello plays actual notes not just fucking around with the pickups...
wigsplittas420. Ok... I'm an idiot and you're the best...
But Tom's Guitar is just effects...
Alright, sorry for sounding like a tool in my first comment, lemme rephrase that; I personally don't like the solo, but I still respect Morello and he's a great guitarist.
3:33 Every time I see it, I cringe........ Perfect.
how?
how can you say that about tom morello?
don't you know who that is?
It's what he does, he intentionally plays different from everyone for a reason. Besides, does it look like bruce thinks hes ruining it?
If you look up the word "dichotomy" in the dictionary it should refer you to this - the singing at the start is so full of passion and a quite fantastic delivery, then it gets to the guitar solo and I have to say that is totally inappropriate for me - what is Morello trying to achieve here? that style of guitar playing is for 'cooks' isn't it - notes per second means nothing to me - a shocker of a guitar solo and so unexpected.
