    Welcome back Juan. Been missing you and so glad to see this outstanding video. Look forward to more, especially about A1 setup and insights into BIF. Been loving the A7R4 with 200-600 mm lens and will be getting the A1. Never got the A92 because of 24 MP. Dreamed of an upgrade like this and it sounds like Sony hit a home run. Keep these videos coming. You are special - all good info with no ego or BS.

      Thanks for the kind words. I felt the same way about the a9, that is why mine got very little use. The a1 is just the best of the a9 and the a7rIV. Take care.

    Thank you so much for considering a setting guide to the A1.
    I feel same as you....over the top. Wow thank you Sony. I set it so far similar to my A9ii so much more available. Thank you

    I'm not sure whether to thank you or be mad at you. I wasn't enticed by this camera until you talked about how good the autofocus and viewfinder are! I may have to rent or borrow one to check it out. :)

      @JuanPons  3 роки тому +2

      You are welcome. If you rent it, it will be hard not to get one! Luckly (maybe) for you is that they are in short supply right now, so it may take a bit to get one.

    Thank you for the information on RRS plate! I recently got the A7Siii and A7Riv to replace the A7iii and A7Riii. I have the version C plate and while it fits both cameras I found the plate to be great for the A7Riv but it did not quite felt the same in my hand on the A7Siii. I held back on purchasing the L plate, so I'm glad to hear there is a retooling happening. I do very little BIF but a lot of low light event photography (hence the reason for the A7Siii) but I'm hoping for Sony to release an A9iii with A1 tech for a 24 Meg camera to replace my A9. A little thing I discovered with the 9.44 million dots EVF in the A7Siii is that manual focus is much easier.

    In your set up video for the A1, please include your setup for birds in flight and perched birds. AF, Focus Areas and other required settings to get the 30 FPS.

    • @davidlewis5929
      @davidlewis5929 3 роки тому

      To get the 30FPS you need to have the "Priority Set in AF-C" to 'Release' (Menu path = AF/MF->AF/MF->Priority Set in AF-C). Personally I use the 'AF' setting for the perched birds setup to help slow down the frame rate, not that it has helped with that since the AF is so fast and sticky.

    Buenas reseñas Juan. Por aquí en España ya la están probando fotógrafos de fauna y están muy impresionados del alto rendimiento de la cámara, sobre todo la rapidez de enfoque. Que el precio puede ser excesivo, todo es relativo en esta vida. Muchos la criticarán por el precio pero si tuvieran ese dinero para invertir seguro que no decían nada. Yo con mi A9+200-600 estoy muy contento, que me gustaría tenerla, por supuesto, pero tendremos que esperar. Un saludo desde Asturias-España.

      Abel, muchas gracias por el comentario. Tienes muchas razón, aunque a menudo queremos lo mas nuevo y poderoso, en realidad casi nunca lo necesitamos. Si el equipe que tenemos nos funciona bien, porque cambiarlo? Muchos saludos.

    Juan, Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences on the Alpha 1. I believe you had it with the 200-600 G lens What was your experience with this lens on this camera? There have been some concerns with the 200-600 G lens on the A7R4 and I wondered if that was camera specific as I don't have any issues on the A9 or A7RIII but did have lessor hit rate on A7R4. Thanks from Corky / Happy Hour.

    • @JuanPons
      @JuanPons  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, while I loved using the 200-600 with the a7RIV the AF performance was lacking specially compared with the 100-400. The 200-600 did much better with the a9 and a9II. However the 200-600 seems to be doing very well with the a1. In the video you will see the Snowy owl coming almost straight at me and the a1 with the 200-600 nailed the focus on EVERY SINGLE frame. Very impressive. Better than I experienced with the a9 and even with the 100-400. I have not had time to really experiment with the a1 and the 100-400 but I would expect it to work even better.
      I will have a more detailed review sometime soon, I just need to use it more in real world situations to ensure it's performance.

      I was shooting in Zone mode, with the "Priority Set AF-C" set to "Release" and "Af Tracking Sensitivity" set to "5 - Responsive"

    I wonder how good will it be with smaller birds like warblers. Here in Puerto Rico you know there are not that many larger hawks nor owls yet smaller shorebirds and warblers are much more abundant but faster and more erratic in their flight patterns. Saludos

    • @JuanPons
      @JuanPons  3 роки тому

      I think it will do fine with warblers, I have had good luck with chickadees, nuthatches and the like. And yes you do have some nice larger birds on the island like Red-tailed black and broadwinged hawks, bald eagles, turkey and black vultures, wimbrels, pelicans, frigatebirds, american oystercatchers, tropicbirds, herons, ibises, ospreys, harriers, kites, barn, short eared and Puerto Rican owls and don't forget pájaro bobo (Puerto Rican lizard cuckoo). Good luck hunting.

    Until Sony comes out with a built-in grip camera, there is no way it can be compared to the upcoming Canon R1 or Nikon Z9.

    • @JuanPons
      @JuanPons  3 роки тому +2

      This statement is just crazy, how can you even begin to compare a camera that is out in the real world with cameras that don’t even exist at this point, even more, make that comparison based simply on a grip that again does not even exist yet.
      I personally detest large grip cameras and I am not the only one. So for me a more compact camera will be much more attractive every time.

    • @JoseHernandez-ir2sm
      @JoseHernandez-ir2sm 3 роки тому

      @@JuanPons Crazy? Time will tell...I am a Sony user and will not hesitate to move back to Canon once I see the specs for the Canon R1. Can't balance handheld big white 400/600 Sony lenses with the small camera with terrible ergonomics and adding the grip does not improve it. Also why the slower cards new cards (160 Gbs at @ $300) when Sony already manufacturer the bigger and faster cards? And the obsolete LCD long overdue for replacement? Don't need 50 megapixels or 30 fps (in reality 20 fps when native RAW). The small Sony lens mount is the Achilles heel of the current full frame Sony cameras since it will limit the development/performance of new lenses (ex: IBIS limitation) and yes, I know they just came out with a 50mm f 1.2. We all can dream about the future...

    • @JoseHernandez-ir2sm
      @JoseHernandez-ir2sm 3 роки тому

      @@JuanPons So how you justify the new a7RIVa with a 2.5 million dots LCD when the a1 "professional" Sony camera released less than 3 months ago has the ancient LCD? Glad I am crazy and did not buy the a1 and waiting for the upcoming real world professional cameras from Canon.

      @@JuanPons ignore this fella… he is not a Sony user and has never shot with an A1. If a built in grip is so important to him then he should go back to Canikon! We don’t want another DSLR like brick in our bags!
