- A few weeks ago I uploaded a video providing advice on how to switch to the Sony Alpha Mirrorless system. In that video I promised that I would upload another video listing the reasons why I switched.
Well here is my top reasons why I switched to the Sony Alpha Mirrorless system
As always I hope you find this information useful. If you do, I would appreciate it if you could subscribe to my UA-cam channel and remember to click on that bell to be notified when I upload new videos.

I was a Nikon hobby shooter for 30 years, and along came Sony, and I switched over. Thanks for your videos.
Agreed. Sonys system and constant innovation is just superior.
Juan, it’s so cool watching this video and thinking, “This guy is decisive.” You’re not a fanboy, but not a drama queen either. That’s refreshingly unique among UA-camrs.
Thanks for the kind words.
Nothing beats the fact that Sony has a 5 year head start on its competitors.
I shared your video on my Facebook page dedicated to wildlife photography with Sony alpha camera so that my followers can enjoy it and eventually subscribe to your channel!
Awesome! Thank you,. Send me an invite so I can check it out.
Sony Alpha user, brother. Subscribed.
Thanks!
Great sharing, Juan! Subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for the sub!
Thank you so much! By looking at your video I’ve realised I’ve done the same steps! Been a Canon user for 15 years and now switched completely to Sony after years of frustration ‘cause nothing really new was going to come out. Just sold 1dx mark II which I thought would be a monster but now it looks like a prehistoric tool with just 61 af points and big chunky form factor. I’m so glad I’ve come up with this decision even if at first I was pretty scared to leave a world I was accustomed to and gave me good results. Your great analysis shows I was right though and now it’s so exciting to be part of this new world and be able to use this gear from Sony
That is great to hear. Change is good, keeps our brains engaged. It really is unfortunate about Canon falling behind. Hopefully they will wake up and take photography seriously again soon. Take care.
Nice video, Juan. Regarding the lens lineup, however ( and I am a Sony user) , there is a big missing piece: it’s the 300 mm 2.8. That lens is an absolute bread and butter lens for journalism, sports, fashion. Its absence is extremely conspicuous. I am guessing that it’s being worked on… But a 300 2.8 is definitely needed.
You are right, but I am sure Sony is working on it along with the 500 f/4
What about the 20 mm f1.4?
Just watched your two videos on switching to Sony. Both are excellent, thank you. Your advice is appreciated and welcomed. Ready to switch from Canon to Sony. Waiting to see if A9II comes out in October and, if so, how many megapixels it will have. If not a big jump, will get A7RIV. Thoughts for future videos - how about a detailed A7R IV tutorial? Also would love one using your Sonys in the field for wildlife shooting. And what about one talking about those images (beautiful) you show at beginning of your videos. An explanation of one at beginning of video would be interesting and enjoyable. Looking forward to your future videos.
Don, thanks for the comment. A a7r IV tutorial is coming, will be long as there is a lot to cover. I like the idea about talking about my images on the image wall. Will add it to the list of things to create a video on. Thanks!
Sony scares me they innovate so ➡️ quickly, really enjoyable vid keep going as your doing a excellent job
No need to be afraid, just because Sony releases a new camera it does not diminish what your camera can do and it does not mean you need to upgrade. Thanks!
Juan Pons I agree, year ago happy iPhone user taking pics, daughter got A7RII & blew me away, as a gift all my kids got me the A9, because I’m new to this I actually prefer her camera, lenses I have: 17-28 & 28-75 Tamron, Sony Ziess 55 1.8 & Sony 200-600 G, in particular last lens far worse on A9, I’m new to this so forgive me but an avid learner, don’t get me wrong but I got my best keepers on A7Rii even swallow in flight, where I’m going wrong I would really appreciate, is it the megapixels ? I crave
"I'm not married to any one system", that makes you different from a lot of people already, in a good way :)
The same happened to me, right now I love Sony because I love technology and I want cameras to get better and better, but if another company does better, like Samsung or Panasonic, I'm ready to switch.
Anyway, the last part is what makes them better, they innovate so fast, they were well behind the competition 6 years ago, and now they well in front, it's an incredible speed, and I hope they don't slow down.
We are 100% in agreement!
What is that controller that’s in front of your monitor? Is It a lupedeck?
Yes, Loupedeck+
Who model Is It, I can’t seem to find it.
With new canon R5 still do you think Sony alpha is the best system?
It's impossible to tell until the cameras are available in the retail space and are used in real world scenarios. Specs only tell you part of the story. I am always cautious of the "professional camera reviewers" because in most cases they are under pressure to come out with the first review and most of the time they are limited to how and when they can use the camera (because of time constraints mostly), but specially so in this time of COVID-19. Besides you can't come up with a real evaluation on the system until you get to use in the field for an extended period of time. Having said that, this looks like a much more worthwhile effort from Canon in the mirrorless space than their previous cameras, so I am optimistic and hopeful that they will be excellent. Like I have said many times, I am not married to any one system, I am always looking for the best solution, no matter which brand. Once I am able to use these new cameras I will share my impressions. The new 100-500 lens looks good, but very pricey. I am looking forward to comparing it with the Sony 200-600.
Juan Pons and i will wait to watch your review on R5 vs a7Riv. Really thanks for your informative videos.
Juan Pons However still I’m wondering to buy a7Riv or iii.
based on your experience which one is more convenience if I don’t want to be depended on post?
Mark 4 is more advance for features like AF system but 61 mp is scarring me for slow buffering and huge pixels for unwanted detailed in portraiture shooting although maybe is providing possibility of cropping!
On the other hand mark iii has same perfect dynamic range and colour tone sensor and much cheaper!
Please advise.
Thank you
I want a Sony but own a Panasonic G9 and with the perfect ergonomics of the Panasonic there's no way I would buy one. Shame they just cannot get the basics right, because Sony produces a sensor doesn't mean that they can optimize it's output pictures. Shame they haven't made a Mirrorless A mount camera
And the reason why I stay with Canon is that when you do a side by side comparison with colors, Canon is by far my favorite. Sony’s don’t even come close. And those are MY preferences. That’s what dxomark will never show you. Then come the RF lenses from Canon with incredible IS. That’s when I knew I will never switch to Sony. Notice how dxo mark is no longer a viable source for comparisons? simply because the difference are so mynute.
Buenas
Gracias!
