I watched this movie as a kid 50 plus years ago. I loved The Wonderful World Of Disney movies on Sunday night on NBC. In the fall they were right after the late football game. Yes, when people had lives and Sunday football did not last from noon till 11 pm. Disney used real actors and actresses too. I recognize Jean Cooper and Nick Adams. One observation. There are a whole lot of soldiers that fall into the creek at the end of this movie.

I had a friend and older mentor that was a Civil War historian and collector as well as a veteran of the turmoil thatr took place in Odessa. He was also head of a local American Legion post. I used to visit his shop on lunch breaks and attend many of his presentations held locally. Mr Liebman, born just before the turn of the century grew up and attended college in the Virginia community and was a young friend of Colonel John Singleton Mosby (then serving as a US Diplomat). Mr. Liebman always told me that as I grew older (I was in my early 20's then) and expanded my interest in the Civil War, that I could tell friends that I shook the hand of someone who shook the hand of Colonel Mosby.

He was a little guy, wasn’t he? Amazing, though, how tough he was. Wounded so many times, but lived to be an old man. Too bad that he like Longstreet was ostrasized when he support Grant. Grant has got a bad rap but he was truly trying to follow a moderate policy, which is pretty much what Lincoln would have done. but lacked Lincoln’ skills.

Of course the movie is filmed in California, so the scenery is "western"...but I stumbled across this movie never knew it existed...Mosby was a local hero all my life...Fairfax was "occupied" by the Union at times, but was a Southern town.

Yep, as I'm sure you are aware as an Elvis fan. The song was originally a civil war era song named Aura Lee, Elvis heard Steve Allen's wife Jayne Meadows performing it with her sister Audrey during a recording session at Capitol. Fell in love with it, Jayne let him know it was in the public domain. The lyrics were changed to Love Me Tender and the rest is history.

James MacArthur starred in some very grown-up & even artsy movie projects starting from a young age (he had well-connected parents) before Hawaii Five-0, which was unfortunately the one most people remember him by. Also did a few stinkers. And he did even more stage acting than film, usually along with his adopted mom Helen Hayes. I have a collection of some of his really obscure TV appearances.

As a reenactor of ACW & ECW,I enjoyed this. And it was great to see 'Jamie','Johnny'&'Danno' in a film.together.The Rebel was b4 my time,I discovered it thanks to The Net & only have vague memories of Jamie McPheeters. But saw 5-O as a teen I think.

Nice effect. When they cut the telegraph wire at 36:25 there is just the hint of an electrical discharge, just as there would have been in real life. And I read once that during the Civil War desertion took place all the time, especially among the volunteers. So, this interplay between Adams and MacArthur might not have happened at all in real life. A really well-done tense search of the house. Nicely directed.

Yes! Desertion was very common for a variety of reasons. Some deserted more than once, and some made a career out of deserting. You see, during the Civil War, any draftees who did not want to serve could pay another to serve in his place, and therefore some men enlisted for the specific purpose of later deserting, so they could be paid to serve again, and again.

The Disney Channel had (has?) a program called "Vault Disney" which featured obscure old Walt Disney projects. Once they aired a 3-hour miniseries re-titled "Willie & The Yank" which is nothing more than this "Mosby's Marauders" movie except stretched out with a whole lot of subplots & deleted scenes that were not included in the theatrical version. It goes into more detail about some of the characters' family issues & conflicts between MacArthur & Russell, & between the Union & Confederacy. So glad I taped that version, unfortunately on VHS otherwise I would upload it.

that I watched in the cinema and the program "Disneyland", which was
shown on television. Today in Brazil, few titles were released on dvd. I often
watch on youtube, in English, just to miss you. I would also like to post:

    4. CARLO, THE SIERRA COYOTE
