- Uniden SDS100 display options and how to video. In this video I give you an up close look at the SDS100 display in both color and black and white. I walk you through how to customize the SDS100 display and what the options you have when customizing. This is the most customization available on any scanner. The Uniden SDS100 has so many display options it is almost unbelievable. I love the contrast on the display. The characters on the display are crisp and easy to read. You can use detail or simple mode on the display. The display has a dimmer as well. There are multiple options available on the SDS100. Check out the video for a full walk through.

Love my SDS100...better than the G4 that I returned. Almost to many options but the reception is great. Can pickup simulcast p25 over 35 miles away while indoors with 800mtz antenna. 🖒👏👌💪

I bought one used, the display is very bright and vivid at the very bottom of the screen, but the rest of it is very grayish, dim. I sent it in for repairs, they said they repaired the display. Opened the box and turned it on, looked exactly the same. Sent it back in and told him it was not fixed. I've had one in the past that I purchased new, and I know the display is supposed to look like it does in this video nice and bright on everything in the screen
4/22 - latest batch of these are back in stores - and being returned to stores because of a screen fit / light bleed issue.

My friend has his radio set to have no display at all until they talked, how do i choose that? Also What are the 2 batteries that are available for this unit? what are the charge and run times difference? to charge a battery it has to be in the radio? I saw one drop in charger but it was like $100?

Silly question, how do you save the detail view? Mines keep going back to simple view.
You have to select detail mode. If you only hover over it and then exit out it won’t save. Click the E or yes button to accept the change.

You can save any unit ID and edit the name on the numerical ID to anything you want.

How do You make the lights come up when they talk?
It’s in the options menu in that specific channel under Alert light

Display Channel name cannot be changed to show UID Name... In a 1 frq trunk there are no Channel "talkgroups" only RID... putting an i before the uid nolonger works help
So Ive been doing alot of research on this, cant bring myself to pull the trigger. All I want to listen to is Fire/EMS, but work in areas with VHF and 800mhz systems. Should I pull the trigger?
Do you like the handheld better compared to its bigger desktop model?
There’s not a mobile version of the SDS100. But I do prefer handhelds over base/mobiles because they are so portable. But I like having a base/mobile scanner too because you don’t have to worry about batteries. So it depends on your use case I guess.
Will it find all the local stuff we want to hear or did you have to program all the channels in?
Using the zip code program feature it will scan any available local channels if they are operating on a system the scanner can monitor. ScannerMaster offers programming as well. Might be worth giving them a call.

That color display is out of this world, i was sold from the get go.
My issue with the color display customization is that for some of us who like to customize everything , there will come a day were we have gone too far and wish we could reset the scanner display
to factory default, but as far as i can tell there is no color display default settings. Surprises me that Uniden went out of their way with endless customizing and didn't include default.
Matt, What are your thoughts on this predicament?
The only option i can think of is the dreaded "Delete all user data", but that's a bit harsh, considering that setting will erase Everything in your scanner, including all your lists and such..
You can reset User Settings and that will keep your data. But I agree, one that only reset the display settings would be a great addition.

Hello Matt, thank you for taking the time to do this review, as well as a number of others too. I know a lot of time has gone by since the initial release of the SDS100 (now there's the SDS200 also), so I was wondering if you have the display resolutions for the two units by chance - as in, for example, 380 x 240, or whatever the real numbers are. I've looked in the user manuals but not been able to find this out. Thank you in advance :-)!!!

Is there a way to change the font size on some of the text to make it bigger?
In simple mode, some of the items are larger and easier to read. But you can’t change the size of the fonts in either detailed or simple.
When you go into detail mode, can you pick and choose exactly what you want to be displayed?
Yes on a lot of the items you can. On some you can not. Like the system/department/channel you can’t change the location. But other items you can change.

One is for GPS and the other is for the USB
I purchased the SDS200 and want to update the unit ID in the display to show what unit/dispatch Center is talking and not just the number ID. I have all the alias that the number coincided with, however don’t know how to change this on the display in the Uniden Sentinel Program to write to the scanner. Looking for any help to get this accomplished. Thanks

Great tip! I basically did what you said and what a change! However, that leads me to a few more questions. I understand that I can also edit using the Sentinal sodtware. I do not want to lose what I just did following your instructions. So, am I corrrect in first connecting the SDS100 to my computer and READING the scanner program (saving it). Will I then be able to "tweak" the colors a little more using the editor in the software and then save that back to the scanner?
I have this scanner. My local sheriff comes in but it sounds like buzzes. Like another digital mode but not encrypted. Do i need to buy the upgrade?
Online it says they use p25 but it doesn't sound encrypted

My friend keeps telling me to make sure the search is on. he said you lock it from scanning and then press function Enter and make sure search is on. The ONLY search I see is search with scan and that's not it.

I don't know if Uniden sells these in any electronics stores. I think it's mostly sold online and at places like scannermaster.com (which has a physical a retail store also), Ham Radio Outlet, Universal Radio, etc.

I wish I knew lol. I‘ve had it for a long time. It’s just an SMA 800 MHz antenna.

Problem is with the UK, everything is encrypted now. Its a risk due to the amount I will be able to receive. It's £770( 918 dollars) with Activated DMR + NXDN + ProVoice. Encryption on those bands is also free.
Will this pick up the now 2019 and beyond frequencies and how many years will we be able to continue to use this SDS100?? THKS
No one knows how long it will continue to work. That depends on the agencies you are monitoring and if/when they change system types. I would check the radio reference forums for your local area and ask what scanner works best for that area and how long they anticipate the radio to work on those systems.
My last digital scanner still I current. I’ve had it for 15 years. My local area is switching over to the newest system this year and it won’t be about to monitor it anymore. The SDS100 should be good for 10-15 years.
Interesting, I have this scanner, just picked it up and when I hit Function 9 nothing happens? Any idea why that would be?
You have to be in channel hold mode. So, just hit the 3rd soft key (3rd on right under screen) while it is scanning. Then hit Fnc, 9.

Thank you. If you customize the display in the display settings you can take those items off the screen. Is it possible you did that by mistake?
@@monitoringreviews Doing something by mistake is not out of the question. Thought I might have set it black on black. But that wasn't the case. Didn't think I could toggle those items on or off.
Looking at it again, you are correct. You can’t remove those options. Only change their color options.
@@monitoringreviews Turned the scanner off, then back on, signal level has returned. Sometimes it's as simple as CTRL-ALT-DEL.

What kind of antenna are you using?
what's the Battery pull on the SDS100? I got the 436hp and eats batteries like crazy takes 3 AA's and unable to charge while listening so hope Uniden fixed that on this Newer model? and on the 436hp no option to take off Military time not real fond of that either. I do like the color mode option on the SDS100 as soon as I can talk myself into dropping $649 for it.

I would suggest going to radioreference.com in the forums. There is an Ohio forum thread there. They could answer your question better than I could since I am not in that area.
my FUNC + 9 and in fact most of my FUNC + quick keys from 1 to E do not work now. All of a sudden - none of these quick keys work after pushing FUNC....I just dd a firmware update last week. Anyone else FUNC + keys not working?

to many people make their SDS100 look like it was setup by a child using crayons, just because you have all the colors available doesn't mean you have try and use a different color for each individual item on the screen, I mean to each their own I guess but it looks terrible and confusing as hell trying to understand what the hell is showing up, on mine, and this is just my choice, I use a solid background color for all of it and white as the lettering, but that doesn't work for lighter colored backgrounds.
That's what's so great about this radio. It is so customizable!

Such a horrible display. Looks like some poorly coded UI made for a high school computer project over the weekend and left as is. Uniden is such garbage now.

As I watched the video I used a note pad, stopped video & replayed it as I watched. Worked great for me.
You go way too fast and click buttons without letting people see what is really happening. I have no better understanding of how to actually change my display after watching this video.
You should make your own video and show him how it's done.
