I can’t believe they never went global. Grandaddy is the perfect mix of music that everyone needs right now, it’s just a shame no one has heard of them.
@@InglouriousBradsterdtotally with both of you on this. It’s shocking that their records, records that have meant so much throughout my life, didn’t sell millions and millions of copies. I’m also a huge fan of Built to Spill, like you. Both are such creative writers and musicians. I’m grateful we know about them, at least! Happy New Year!
@@Lukronius Idk why you guys are so shocked these dudes arent bigger, look at who they sound like.... Weezer... While i think they are way better, they are just artsy enough to not make the masses... bands like grandaddy and BTS always get lost in the mix of bands who are willing to sacrifice artistic integrity... You know whos heard of Grandaddy tho, Chino from Deftones... just look at how he dressed for about 10 years..
@@juanticimo totally fair - so split the difference between, say, Weezer and Deftone’s popularity? I’m not clueless to certain levels of those with generally poor taste occasionally liking the good. I’m just saying it stings that it couldn’t have been more commercially beneficial to this particular band in their situation.
@@juanticimo also… does Grandaddy sound like Weezer, or does Weezer sound more like Grandaddy… and everybody else? Do The Beatles sound like The Kinks? I’ve loved Weezer and Grandaddy since very close to approximately the same time, but they are absolutely different bands in message, depth, and evolution. Just wanting to see where you fit on this.
Wow grandaddy is really one of the best bands with a pretty cool following. It's so weird to see 12 year old comments on some of these videos just shows this band might be timeless
As a skateboarding friend of Kevin Garcia. I can tell you he was one of the most friendliest and humble and unassuming people I've ever met. I don't think it ever mattered to Kevin to be some indie rock star or something. I think he was just glad to be part of such an awesome group of musicians, friends, and fellow skateboarders. Everyone misses you Kevin. It was a pleasure to have met you. Alex Hardie
My dad showed me under the western freeway when i was a little kid and we’d listen to it a lot. this video and song just make me plain happy. Grandaddy, i know you won’t see this, but The Sophtware Slump is probably the greatest and most well put together album i will ever hear, and it all means so much to me. Rest in peace Kevin Garcia.
The first time I heard this song, I was in the 4th grade and my dad was driving me around town late at night. Black skies, a dark, unpopulated town. barely any cars in sight. This song was playing. I feel bad for people who haven't experienced that.

Grandaddy was the first band I identified with as a kid. They brought me the first song I ever liked-ever adopted to be mine. They helped me find out who I was during my formative years. They’ve been with me, like a friend, ever since. I hope we’ll have grandaddy in the afterlife.

I feel the same way. I say the same thing about "Built to Spill.." They just weren't meant to be popular. Only to the chosen ones---like you.
