Hopefully they get stealth back to a functional spot. The days of opening up on a target before they see you was a huge advantage for the Ghost and Sabre.
U need to run stealth components and ballistic weapons to increase ur stealth. Right? Thinking about upgrading my titan to hornet. But dunno which varaint to pick.
@@Hospeld in current patch (and the previous ones since about 3.14) components are all the same, only separate by grade A-D. You can be more stealthy by turning everything off current patch. If you were to switch your pledge to a Hornet, I’d definitely recommend only doing the base model. The others don’t have any special functionality as of yet. Though I’d recommend staying with the Titan. If you were going to spend a bit more than choose a Nomad or Cutty Black. Just my opinion though.
@@andyandreson3989 thx for advice. Yea, i tryed almost all of under 110usd ships. Most of them squishy, some have weak armament and some just meh. I need strong fun fighter for vlow, low and maybe mrt bounty missions, for all other combat missions i have warden xD
Heya Farrister, the thrusters on the Hornet series (and others similar to them) are referred to as 'joint thrusters' because of the way that they move. Just figured you might like to know :)
The Ghost prior to the stealth nerf or rework or whatever they call it was so good with grade A stealth components and ballistic cannons i could get within 1200m of a target before they would radar lock me it was so fun but now i just use it once in a while if it had a storage like the Gladius and Sabre i might use it more often for bunkers and stuff.
10 percent reduction in IR+CS+EM signature and somewhat lighter than the regular F7C. When suppressing signature and turning off shields its stealth works from around 6.9km range (that's with a military loadout and the extra turret on there) where the Eclipse can get as close as 4300m without being spotted. Within a fleet operation the Ghost can however still make a pretty sweet scout. Also it seems to be at a slightly better position in pvp operations right now than it's Aegis counter - the Sabre. Considering it is somewhat lighter but has the exact same amount of thruster power and a smaller signature - to me the Ghost is THE Hornet to go for. Last but not least the black paint livery works really well on the Hornet model and its dated look is part of its charm, making you feel like you're flying a piece of Star Citizen history. I love this ship. Thanks for your excellent and relaxing ship reviews Farrister. I really enjoy watching them. Have a very happy xmas as well pianoman. o7
I like this ship. And when I first purchased a Saber, I was hooked on stealth gameplay in general. I hope that gets focused on soon. Thanks for the great review, Farrister!
Really enjoy your videos, another good one! I’m sure you’ve heard this before but you should really try a lag PiP when dogfighting with these smaller ships, but if not that’s ok too. Keep it up
i own the Ghost for a few years now, and i upgraded/melded it a few times for other fighters. after a week or two, i always change it back because for some reason, it just feels wrong not having my black baby available. I do agree with you tough, just slap all the military things on it that you can and you get a cool Black Hornet :D
The Ghost is a really cool variant, but the Hornet Heartseeker is my favourite. What finally sold me on it was the fact that the nose art displays *over* any paints you apply. So my Heartseeker is flying the Invictus Blue and Gold with a full loadout of Bulldogs and Badgers. It might not be Meta, but it is a lot of fun to fly.
Greetings Farrister. I liked this review of the Hornet Ghost. It does show the capabilities of the ship well. I have to admit, I'm not a Hornet fan. I have flown the basic Hornet F7C and the Super Hornet F7C-M. They are good ships, but I don't really like the style and aesthetics of the ship. I think that double tail is superfluous. They tend to easily fall off when shot, and serve no real purpose. I think they may have thrusters, but I'm not sure. Even the wings are vulnerable to being shot off easily. I suppose I would consider them a glass cannon. Don't get me wrong but, I believe the UEE bought them because they were inexpensive and they just needed something fast against the Vanduul, or in the Tevarin wars. Thanks for the review. Take care my friend, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.
I compared it to the next best thing, the Sabre. Using ERKUL I can say that The Sabre is the dedicated stealth fighter but the Ghostis very close to it. I think the difference is in most times not that great to MAKE a difference. But the Ghost has a bunch more firepower and the hull even offers more protection against Damage. I switched from Sabre to the Ghost and I actually like the design, all blocky with edges, looks like Lego
I think people considering the Hornet series should also consider the Buccaneer. You trade having less hull HP for higher speeds, but other than that they are very similar. I prefer the Bucc, myself. Though, if they ever figure out stealth gameplay, I'll be taking another look at the Ghost
Ah yes, the Hornet series. The ships that I can never decide if I like them or if I dont like them. On one hand i like the "Colonial Viper" asthetic, especially on the Ghost wich is basicly an armed version of the Blackbird frol the newer "Battlestar Galactica" But the MK1 Hornet looks just so chunky with those huge "in your face" sidepods. I love the MK2 version. It keeps the "Colonial Viper" looks but in a way more refined way. A Hornet Ghost based on the MK2 modell would be great. But for now the regular Ghost would be the only Hornet, I would consider.
i tend to look at what the ship will be more then what it is right now. I think the ghost is supposed to have less armor but the paint does add a bit to stealth (even without the stealth module).
love my F7C Hornet and Super Hornet both for PvE and PvP, they are classed as medium fighters. But with the "modern" standard that if the fighter have a turret its a heavy fighter then the class should be updated from medium to heavy since thats what they feel like IMO
I really like my Ghost. I have little problem doing up to VHRT's with it, and in PvP, a well seasoned Ghost pilot will shred a pilot less experienced in a light fighter. I just don't care for the clunky look of the nose turret, and might replace it with the single size 3, even though I may take a small DPS hit.
You actually get a small increase in dps, 2 size 1 vs 1 size 3 is a big difference. Not to mention the nose turret guns keep falling off the ship anyway. And the nose turret is hideous
This has been an amazing ship in 3.22. Creeping up to other fighters at 2300m undetected and using full ballistic TTK is less than 5 seconds. They die before they even realize what's happening. Against poaching Reclaimers it's been easy to get close enough to dumb fire 4 missiles and then switch to ballistics. Knocking out an entire main engine mount in 10 seconds crippling the Reclaimer.
@@Farrister I figured it looks the best, can be refitted into essentially the other Hornets and may have stealth tec that you CAN'T refit on the other ones... I might have missed something, but felt like an easy choice. Also has some heavy gimballed DPS!
the 1 detail missed is that all stealth ships have a stealth modifier that makes it more invisible than any other ship that fits for stealth and stealth is useless unless you activate stealth mode. the ship comes with fittings that are weak as all stealth fits are weak as its a sacrifice for a minimal cross-section you add more guns you em cross section grows really any change to the ship will likely reduce efficiency to be stealth. im just not sure this ship can punch hard enough to make stealth viable i love my saber raven i can turn off guns and shields and quantum drive then practically rub wings and you wont know im there im completely useless with everything off but if you dont ping me i might not show up. i think the hawk and razer ex is almost as good as raven
The medium fighters are in a rough spot. Over classed by the light and heavy fighters. I got a super hornet, but it does hardly get out of the hanger. I'll tend to take out the vanguard or arrow instead. But if you want a hornet, I think the ghost is the most interesting choice in the series.
3.12 - 3.14 ? Before the weapon "Rebalance" [NERF] I ran the ghost full stealth with three FL-33 Laser Cannons and a C788 Ballistic Cannon in the Specialty Varipuck S5 to run the Claim Jumper Missions. Could easily get with in 4km and open fire popping those blasted turrets as I drifted on by !!! Ah Good times.
Hi farrister, love mine, but i have to give you the fact hornet feels aged. And i still dont get why we didn't had the Mk2 wich is soooooo much better looking. And everything is better designed, integrated etc. So far Mk2 is only for SQ42 F7A (wich was the second rework, that never hit the pu sadly exception made of engine). I love the wildfire one or the tracker skin. Love how tanky it is, how hard it punch and the full gimbal fire power. It is still pretty agile too. I love saber design but hornet wins the fight in efficiency. I still hold to my hornet rather than upgrade to scorpius until i know more about the ai blade and remote turret slaved to pilot (scorpius may be then hell of a solo fighter). Only other drawback is the really short range of quantum. I wish it had a bit more compare to its competition, but i'm ok with it. PS: Love how the display screens are well aranged, not blocking view and yet allowing to see 4 screens with usefull intel without track ir. :)
Ghost was my "base" hornet, but now i own a wildfire. In long term, i feel like the ghost material to repair will be more expensive as it hull alloy is stealth. While basic hornet may be tougher and cheaper to maintain.
@@Farrister yep. I also love that hornet and some anvil ship are the only ones to have a « star wars ish » paint. Like wildfire base, tracker…. They feel like x wing paints . Industrial referal beige and olive green was too unfortunately exclusively for industrial ship :(
Not sure why, but it seems I cant equip anything to the ball turret...its forcing me to leave it empty for whatever reason. Did you use a gimbal to mount the 2 scorpions?
I do like the Hornet series. They're not the meta anymore but can get the job done. Though that goes for most fighters I guess. Also, wasn't the center pod for the Ghost a part of the stealth? It might not do much right now but in the future replacing it with the ball turret might take away the stealth benefit.
They should just take that allegedly polished mk 2 frame, dupe it, adjust the stats for the variants and center equipment. Bloat the super hornet version of mk2 size wise. It’d be cheaper to use what is working than adjust the model, stats, and animations of the ugly mk 1 frame
