I always thought the Shadow Druids were more of like a "secret society" type of group, being more focused on staying stealthy (which is why they hide to us at first as rats) so I like thinking that they would be Circle of Land with the Greater Invis + Pass without Trace combo (and if you use Contagion then it has a kinda plague rat theme too)
I want to say that this makes multiclassing with rogue thematic, but none of the default subclasses fit that well. But what DOES work better is monk... of course taking Way of Shadow.
@@senittoaoflightning4404 Yup. Also Monks in Wild Shape benefit from their Unarmored Defense, adding their high Wis to the AC of every animal form. Barbarians do that too, actually, but it's based on the Con of each form so the benefit varies.
I've done a 9/3 Paly/Rogue, but never a Paly/Ranger! You're right it does fit nicely. And this build is BEGGING for the gloves of dexterity. Put those on and make your feats Great Weapon Master, Alert, Sharpshooter. Congratulations you now act before every single enemy in the game guaranteed, letting you position yourself to maximize the usefulness of your aura. God DAMN I love paladins! That also frees up more points to make charisma even higher, making even oathbreaker an effective choice if you prefer its aesthetics.
level 20 builds would be fun - I’ve been making them for a long time now. I throw on mods to add difficulty, but after 10 playthroughs sometimes I’m just trying a story path & want to speed through. It also adds some role play dimension - my current run is Fey Wanderer Ranger 11 / Circle of Dreams Druid 2 / Circle of Nature Cleric 2 / Archfey Warlock 1 / Wild Magic Sorcerer 1 / Lore Bard 3. That combination gives me the dialog options to make roleplaying more interesting. I can be a Fairy (modded race!) from the Feywild who grew up in a Dream druidic order devoted to Mielikki - he picked up the basics of cleric & druid spells (+dialogue tags, to use that knowledge, druid narrator lines), which have a lot of overlap. Growing up fey, in the Feywild, has imparted a touch of magic on him, making him sensitive to magic around him (Wild Magic Sorcerer dialogue tags) and sometimes goofs his spells. A mostly benign Archfey took a shine to him a while ago who checks in on him now and again, and being fey himself he knows fey tricks (Archfey Warlock dialogue tags, narrator lines). He’s had some education, and makes money busking (Lore Bard, can choose smartass dialogue options) in between his real gig - a Feywild guide for wealthy, risk-seeking tourists (Fey Wanderer Ranger). I could be just 20 levels of Fey Wanderer and still have plenty of fun, but I feel like it both adds a lot of narrative depth and self-nerfs to some extent. This is how I’m approaching more of my builds now. I impose additional limitations like limiting spells or choices, and use other mods (equipment, spell enhancement) to get very specific effects.
Lvl 20 builds would be amazing. I’ve been using the mod that unlocks it for months with an enemy health upscaler to balance it and seeing what you could come up with would be awesome
I'd love to see level 20 builds but even builds that are only a couple of levels over the level 12 cap. I can't tell you how many multiclass builds I have come up with that would have been perfect with just 1 or 2 extra levels and it always drove me nuts I couldn't do it.
Also while oathbreaker works fine, I don't think breaking your oath is going to be as much of a problem as it first seems, even if you play your character more evil. If you just choose every violent/sadistic option, sure, but that's not what shadow druids are about. Here's a list of "not-good" things you can do that won't break even an ancients oath (according to the wiki, have a backup save just in case): -letting Arabella di- I mean step on a lego -raid the goblin camp (just be sure the fighting starts in dialogue) -side with the Zhentarim (including killing Rugan on Zarys' order) -taking Karlach's head (if on the quest for the fake paladins or for Wyll) -while giving the grove location or agreeing to raid with Minthara will break oath, IGNORING the grove/goblin conflict, letting the grove seal, won't. However, letting the guards erase Minthara's mind WILL break oath, so now you have a reason to save her (and no concussion required!) -also, EVERYTHING RELATED TO SHADOWHEART'S QUEST, including making her a Dark Justiciar, and letting her kill her parents (to the best of my knowledge) WON'T break any paladin oath! With the exception of letting the Mother Superior live, which breaks Ancients and Vengeance, but strangely not Devotion. And I'm someone who thinks making SH a DJ is ultimately more evil than killing the grove, so make of that what you will.
For my shadow druid i was way more literal lol 7 earth druid 5 shadow monk and used the staff of cherished necromancy. Would be awesome to do that build as a lvl 20 build as you'd get the monk's shadow step and druids higher lvl spells
YES! A LEVEL 20 BUILD! EK/AT Wiz class 😂 Or. And this is just an idea that came to me. A level 20 EK/Wiz/Beastmaster Ranger multiclass. That sounds fun 😂
Glad to have you back. I was wondering do you think you could make builds recreating characters from World of Warcraft? I have some characters in mind, with one especially.
Honestly its feels weird that you haven't maked a build inspired on shadow druids, well i mean there is the dark druid but thats just evil druid Edit: Level 20 builds for sure
A Seldarine Drow who becomes a shadow druid? Now there is someone who has been through a LOT and seen some stuff. XD I've not managed to keep up with every video but have you done a dedicated healer at all? I know it isn't considered meta in BG3 but I love playing a male healer in MMOs and bucking those only women play healers trends. Be nice to see a wise healing kinda build.
Hey are you going to talk about the mirror of loss at some point? I know you mention the potion of everlasting vigour fairly often as a buff for certain builds, but i got the hang of the mirror recently and now plan out how to use it on all of my playthroughs for my endgame teams.
Well I don't like the mirror for my videos as it'd very much in the end game, whereas the other stuff isn't. Just a personal thing really, but most people who know about the mirror would know how to use it with my builds

This is really cool and feels like a good partner for your other shadow druid-like build. I would love to see level 20 builds.

This is definitely something I want to try with Minthara especially with her soul branding I can see her being really powerful at the start of battle

Might as well install a mod that prevents oathbreaking beacuse you're gonna be an Oathbreaker 2 minutes after getting off the nautoloid.
Yaaaaas
I’ve been trying to do this sort of thing and perfect it for months
here I'm wondering how well the horizon walker ranger 8 /4 oath of ancient Paladin build fits😊
