- In this video, we are doing an emulation demo of PS2 Games running on the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. This device was sent to me by GoRetroid.com for review.
I am using the AetherSX2 emulator for Android and most games are running at 2x resolution. Some titles were bumped down to 1.5x resolution for performance and any titles not running well, were dropped down to 1x resolution.

I agree, something is odd. I watched Joey's video on it and the performance looks like crap compared to this. This actually makes me want to buy one.
@@DaveKatz1984 I am using the latest AetherSX2 app pre-ads. No hacks or tweaks, just vulkan as GPU rendered and 2x resolution for most games, 1.5 for a couple and 1x on all the ones that ran poorly. Nothing else

Thanks! This is actually better than I expected, thought Burnout 3 would be slow and/or black sky bug.
Burnout 3 did have some slow downs from time to time but nothing game breaking

Wich power profile are you utilizing for all the testings?. DO you mean that every game works at X1 even if you show them not running properly on the video?

@Restalgia right on. Is there any you can test Black, Metal Gear Solid 3 Substance and or Killzone. I am in the market for an emulator device. The Odin 2, is waay above my pay grade. No need to upload, I am curious to know if the Retroid 4 pro can run those games, in particular

Nope that's definitely true in many cases. Will include some overlaping games for gamecube when I do that video this week.
Something I’ve noticed in all the videos i have seen about portable emulation devices, is that most of the games are being played in 4:3 and not 16:9. I just want to know if it’s just a user preference and can be changed or if is just capped in a square shape🤔. Awesome video btw✨✨✨ I like the way you talk and share your opinion!🔥
It depends on the system and the game. Ratchet and Clank for example is 16:9 in the video. But you do have the option to stretch 4:3 onto 16:9 if you would rather have a stretched image than black bars. And some games have the option of both.
Because they're 4:3 games. Not all of them support 16:9 natively and not all of them play well with 16:9 hacks
Please do the addditional videos! Also would you say that for cross platform games it would be better to go for the non-PS2 version due to the state of the emulator? I know sometimes there are differences in cross platform games that would make one version more desirable than another but if all things equal? Could be another video idea: comparing emualtion performance of cross platform titles?
Depends on the title to be honest, but nba street vol 2 for example runs better on gamecube then it does ps2.

Soul calibur 2 plays much better but 3 is a no go

Nfs underground 2 resolution 1x or 2x? I have a phone with sd888+ and it barely runs 30 fps on 2x, so I wonder if its the same, then mb it worth buying

For those laggy games, try underclocking + disable instant vu1. Native res might help too
I dropped to native resolution, but I didn't try underclocking. Will give it a shot

I actually didn't realise Bully was for the PS2. I always thought it was an early PS3 title. It must have been one of those games released at the end of the PS2's lifespan just before the PS3 released, that simply never got a port over.
It's also good to know that it also works pretty well on the RP4 Pro.
Rockstar was on fire back then, bringing out games like there is no tomorrow.
are you running the ps2 games off an sd card or the internal storage?

AetherSX2 developers are incredibly talented. I have never seen an emulation completed to this extent in such a short period of time. It is very unfortunate that development has been halted.

It's just pcsx2 code ported and then fucked up completely with the last update. Nethersx2 removed all the garbage included with the last updated
I’m gonna give it a few years. The RP 6 Pro might finally be able to play all of PS2 without issue, plus the 2TB SD cards should be a little cheaper by then too.
For comparison, the 870 SOC plays Dirge Of Cerebris smooth at 2X. The 870 is the closest to this chipset. Also, for games that play really slow, try disabling Hardware Download Mode. Some games do not use that asset, but get bogged down with it on. The setting is in graphics options. I have a Legion Y700 8" tablet that has the 870. Amazing chip that has great thermal properties in regards to minimal throttling. Added: Actually, all the games shown here play smooth at 1.5X on the 870. Most 2X. Same for your other videos.
I didn't buy any of those retroid because i was waiting for a real Ps2 capabilities... Is this the retroid to pick?
Don't get me wrong, it really does a wonderful job, but it's certainly not perfect. Also ps2 absolutely drains the battery. Like 2-3 hours MAX. So keep that in mind.
are there any custom PS buttons available to buy?
Not that i have seen, but I also haven't been looking for them.
One thing that worries me about the Retroid Pocket 4 is running out of storage space once I add PS2 and GameCube games. That I legally own. Those "backups" take up storage space really fast.
They do. I have a 512gb card and am regretting not buying the 1tb
@@Restalgia Even a TB may not cut it for 6th gen games. Unless this has an EMMC slot. Good news is a 2tb card is on the way but it will cost more than this Retroid.

I'd honestly rather see PSP over PS Vita as the Vita titles probably aren't as many. Or just add Vita titles to the end of a PSP video.
Edit: For PSP I'd hope to see GTA Liberty/Vice City Stories, Star Wars Rogue/Renegade Squadron, Mortal Kombat: Unchained, Killzone: Liberation, Resistance: Retribution, MGS: Peace Walker, LittleBigPlanet.

the problem is the emulator itself, even you have snap gen 3 you can't get full speed for all games since the developer abandoned this emulator a year..

Mali gpu isn't that good for Emulation, there are games weaker Snapdragon soc can play like sly cooper but powerfull Mediatek cant play them.
