Thank you! I have an '04 Nissan frontier and I'm currently waiting for a mechanic friend to come by and help with changing the alternator.

You don’t show how to actually get it out. That’s what I needed to know. Thanks for wasting my time

I needed to know how to get the actual alternator out of the space that it’s stuck in, behind the bottom bracket. He didn’t even cover how to deal with this problem. I ended up just loosening the bracket and sliding it out of the way to get the alternator out. That’s a pretty important step in the replacement process that this video left out. By the way, you shouldn’t go around telling people they deserve cancer, it’s bad luck.

Andrew Blythe sounds like you could have made your own video so some other clown can bust your chops for your short comings. You are very ungrateful. You could have asked this gentleman to help you with ideas.

I found it "easiest" going at it by removing the air intake and then going in from behind the front right tire. Was still a huge pain though.

HEADS UP: If you’re looking for a replacement video, this one isn’t the one. This guy is trying to warn you that it’s a shitty design by Nissan and might very well not be worth your time or effort - and that you may be better off paying for the labor.

The biggest issue I have is the plug disconnect right now. The second bolt was easy with a 12mm socket with no extension. But very little room to move the ratchet. All I have left to do right now is the wire disconnect and the plug. Keep in mind im doing this with my hand in a cast!

How do you remove it from the belt?

    • @philfrizzle3419

you need a ratchet (can't remember if it's 1/4" or 3/8") to fit in the square hole on the tensioner pulley. Ideally a good sized ratchet, so you can get good leverage. Twist counter-clockwise and this should reduce the tension on the belt for you to free the alternator. I would recommend leaving the belt in place as much as possible - so long as it doesn't need replacement too. Apply the same task in reverse to get the belt back on.
