I always stop every hour and a half for 10 minutes or so. Walk around the vehicle. Check it out but mostly stretch the legs. Get that circulation going. When I was your age I'd do the 8 or 9 hour trip from Las Vegas to Albuquerque with only one quick stop for gas. My doctor told me that was a no no. It's important to get out and stretch for your health. I get up and stretch when I'm on a long plane ride too. All your other ideas were spot on. Safe travels.

Allie you are glowing driving, loved that part. Good job Trent handing over the wheel, we know it’s hard for ya but great partnership sharing the responsibility. So glad you put a video out, look forward to see another new one soon so god speed! Be safe ❤️

I wonder why Trent is so precious about being the main/sole driver that doesn't like sharing?
But then I realised that when I'm driving a bunch of people on a road trip I'm generally the only driver, even though I have other people with me who could do 2-3 hours driving as well... Kind of makes me feel comfortable knowing that I'm in control and can get everyone there safely, as I've done it so many times before.

When my wife and I have taken long trips, our general rule of thumb is that I start and I'll drive through any major urban areas, and if I need a break, she'll drive if we're our on the open road somewhere. She doesn't mind driving, but she will when she has to. She's also not comfortable driving something van-sized in areas where there's a lot of traffic. It works for us.

On a long drive you should stop for a few minute, stretch and then continue on. You need to get the blood flowing in your lower extremities.

Taking turns driving seems it would not only break up the time, but safer. Deep conversations are great if there is a mutual respect for a difference of opinions. Really appreciating the views verbally is good way to break up the loooonnng silence. I don't agree about NOT stopping. Plan ahead to where you can stop along the way, leave earlier is the first clue. Enjoy your visit.

Don’t agree with the stop as little as possible rule. All the other ones are good. I’ve done many road trips and every two-three hours to stretch you legs is good for you body and mind. Also really love a good half hour nap. It may add a little to the drive time but a half hour shut eye can save the day.

Tip #1. Should be to start much earlier, we do 11 hr. Drive Dallas to Las Cruses NM at least once a year and always make sure to #2 change drivers every 3-4 hours or when we get gas so we aren’t so wiped out. We usually listen to jam bands because the music is more complicated it is great for expanding thought processes. #3 Your snack suggestion is great but stop at a regular grocery store it is 1/2 the cost. #4 I also like to pull out the camera and take photos as we go of all the great scenery . #5 I like to write and doodle so sometimes I track all the crap we talk about just in case their are ideas to build upon. Do something you like
These are my tips for surviving 11 hr. Desert crossings. I find your lives intriguing because my husband and I are newly retired and want to travel and I want something I will be comfortable driving. I have never driven anything bigger than a stretch van and I feel sure I can handle that.

We drove from Chicago to Anchorage, it could have taken less time but I am so glad we meandered to see the country on the way. The border crossing into AK is smaller like the one you saw in Vermont, not what I was expecting after the border crossing in Vancouver on the way up.

Get snacks before you get in the car. Snacks at gas stations are notoriously high. Dollar tree snack run. Also download a book free from the libraries, just st download app Freegal for music, Freading and Overdrive for listening to books they have movies too. And Hoopla books, music, movies, tv shows and graphic novels

That's exactly how we do our road trips. We found if one of us was working during the travels, we'd do one person driving one day and another the next day. I laughed out loud with your snack line up, as we do the same, something healthy, something salty, something sweet. It was nice to see New England (my home area) in your videos :)

Definitely agree with podcasts vs music; it's way too easy to get into a sort of trance with music that is no bueno when driving. Trent definitely hit it on the head that listening to podcasts is like driving while reading a book ... best of both worlds. And Allie, I'm glad you got some coveted drive time in!

I drove from Maine to Canada last year and it was awesome... it was tiny just like you described with a super nice lady working the crossing! That trip was part of a trip which took about 14 or 15 hours. I came back to the US via New York State and it was so much more complicated. I really enjoy long drives! I drove from Jekyll Island, GA to Key West, FL and back all in a day once (20ish hours driving non-stop). I agree that it is good to have someone to help drive and ways to stay entertained!

great video guys, I spent all day looking at class B and C motor homes online. I have an old one in the driveway but it needs to go and I need a newer one to hit the road. I wish I was as "van build" savvy as you two. I have had 4 driving jobs in my life, all day driving is taxing, but pushing through to get to your destination is rewarding.

Love these tips! I pretty often (2x a year) drive from Oklahoma to Connecticut (or the opposite), which is about 36 hours. It is cheaper than flying and its nice to have a car when visiting family. One of my favorite activities to stimulate the brain when music or podcasts get dull, is we play a road trip game called 6 degrees. It's based off the "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" which is challenging people to find the shortest path between an arbitrary actor and kevin bacon. We have extended this to the shortest path between two arbitrary actors. It is super fun and really makes you think!

Hi, I’m with you on the coconut water 😎. Here in the Uk if I drove for 11 hours in the same direction I would drive into the sea 🤪. I spent a year in the US at University many years ago and I was always amazed at the distances people are willing to drive to shop or visit with people and then return the same day.

If possible look at your planned route and try to time your departure so that you are not going through any big city areas during rush hours. Not always possible but departing a couple of hours earlier or later than planned can avoid an hour or more of traffic slow downs. The traffic may not even slow you down all that much in the grand scheme of things but it takes a toll on your attitude/patience during the drive.

When we were in our 20's we drove 1339 miles in 24 hrs. It took us that long because we took the wrong exit and got lost in Atlanta. Then got stuck in a major traffic jam when a race track let out while we had stop at a store next to it in the middle of the night. Most of the cars came from the next state over😬. Now that was crazy and now that I'm older, very stupid. At least you in a van with a toilet where you can get up and stretch. We were in a Monte Carlo😂. FRANK!!! Your such a cutie!😘💖🐾💖

Music really does get old when you listen to it over and over and over again, have just begun using podcasts more and more will have to check out Eamon & Becs! Definitely have had multiple deep conversations, personally those are some of my favorite times!

I'm with ya on 'snack balance'. I always pack a container of raw veggies, another of bite-sized fruits, and OF COURSE, some sweet/salty crunchy 'junk?'.😀 Also, taking time to communicate is a top tip.
I'm NOT with ya on avoiding, at least, semi-frequent stops (bad for the bod)😯, nor driving such long stretches (you both looked [with good reason] like sleeping at the wheel was a grave possibility)😩👎 HOWEVER....great share! I'm looking forward to your Maine adventures...perfect timing for foliage. JOY! 💚

Most bottled coconut water tastes crappy because it's pasteurized. if you're buying bottled, try Harmless brand. Fresh coconut water, if you can get it, is totally yum - on another level.

Hi ya'll, don't have any tips, but when you got to get there just push on and don't stop. Trent I'm like you in the respects of not being a good passenger. When a group of people say lets go I always volunteer to drive. I don't like the feeling of not being in control of the vehicle. I'm not saying I'm a control freak, but when it comes to driving "YEP". Allie please give us some extra British accent next video. I love it when you do❤. Love & Peace

Virginia...I truly think you are right, and thank you for your input. I can't even read when I'm a passenger so it definitely has to do with car sickness

I guess another great advantage of travelling in a van with 2 drivers is that you can each do stretches while the other drives. Do you guys do that? I do that when I'm travelling by train or plane. Oh! How about Frank? How does his bathroom breaks work during such long drives?

Not stopping is a great idea if your physically well. If you have any chronic pain (frozen shoulder, hip or knee injury etc) it is the not the best idea. The reason is that by the time you get to where your going you will be in pain and loose the first few day nursing your injury instead of enjoying yourself. For those people stoping every 2 hours and just moving a bit is best. No not sit in a restaurant but go to the picnic area and do a short walk about. 5min top then carry on. After 37 ys as massage therapist I’v seen many clients with recurring pain destroyed by flying and driving.
PS try to get Trent to eat those veggies lol

Virginia Lowe - Agreed. Long periods in the same position is not natural and likely harmful. Also, think about all the points of interest we drive straight past and would never otherwise drive that far to visit - wasted opportunity!

I am the same way. I have nerve damage and other ailments. I must stop every couple of hours or I'll be in bed at least 2 days once I get to where I'm going. NOW if I had Trent and Allie's set up I could just get up and walk around the van while other person was driving or lay down for a lil while. But being SINGLE doesn't give me that luxury. Trent and Allie do what's best for you guys. Always enjoy watching your videos. MY doggie, lil girl, says hello to Frank.

Well - I hate being distracted by food when driving and so eat dense, quick food - such as bananas or nut cakes - or old fashioned fruit n nut cakes. I'm surprised to hear someone on your continent do such a long drive which might be more commonplace here in Aus. Yes - deep conversation!! Either all by myself, with the land or a passenger. And I never get sick of singing or of music. And - an open road with no-one up ahead and no-one behind - well nothing, absolutely nothing compares.
My sister n I worked out once that if we chanted "hallelujah" at the top of our lungs for an hour we used enough calories to eat a mars bar every hour!! Nearly as good as swimming!!
I never let anyone else drive. Touch wood - I've never had an accident in my life - and I must have driven over 800k kilometers. and I also get carsick when other people drive. But I do hate how all the RV couples I watch have the man doing the driving. It's a known fact that women are better and safer drivers. If she likes driving Trent then you'd better learn to share it more!!
Yeh - agree when doing a long run don't stop much (hence dense foods) but if I'm doing an 11 hr run I'd need a half way sleep for an hour or so - plus some 'bush chi'. Which involves looping/dancing around the bush making strange noises. When I get a channel happening I'll do a demo!

My husband and I have traveled to Disneyworld 2 different times and from where we live it's a minimum 15 hour drive but more like 18 counting traffic and construction areas plus stops for gas, food, and bathroom breaks. My husband is really bad about falling asleep at the wheel and he is usually in denial about nodding out even when I have shown him video evidence. We all know how stubborn men can be about being the driver but my husband is even worse about it because I am actually a better driver than him. ( Even his parents asked him to let me drive, and we were taking his mom's car so if your mother-in-law would rather yod drive than her own son you know I had to be a better driver) On both trips to Disney and back when it was my 1st turn to drive after an argument about him nodding out he finally let me drive and I got lucky that he fell asleep in the passenger seat so I did everything to not wake him up and I actually drove about 12 hours out of 18. I even managed stopping a couple times for gas and to use the bathroom without waking him up.
